1 Worksheet on the new English Major The following pages provide the basic information you need to understand the new English Major. Please contact your academic advisor or stop by the English Department in Founders to find out more. Choosing old or new If you enrolled at USD prior to Fall 17, you may choose to remain with the old Major, or switch to the new. This means even if you have not yet declared your major, but were at least a Freshman in the academic year, you get to choose. Important: if you choose the new Major, you must also choose the new Core Curriculum. If you stay with the old Major, you must also stay with the old Core. No mixing old Core and new Major, or vice versa. If you are sticking with the old, no need to do anything. If you want to change to the new Major, see the English Chair to fill out a new Declaration of Major form. Key Differences in New Major Gateway Course (260) Survey in the lower division (300 Brit Lit becomes 250 Literary Foundations) Literary Histories (310s) and Literary Cultures and Theories (320s) instead of historical distribution (pre-1660, etc.) 410 Advanced Writing in the English Major, instead of a floating W 2 additional UD electives (6 units)
