2 The following Policies and Stipulations apply to this degree program. These may or may not appear in the Undergraduate Catalog, but are nevertheless applicable and enforceable. Further information regarding these requirements is included in the Undergraduate Catalog and on the Department of Music website. REQUIREMENTS COMMON TO LL BCHELOR OF MUSIC DEGREE PROGRMS. ll new and transfer students planning to major in music must audition for the music faculty on the principal applied instrument or voice and be evaluated and advised for placement in a program prior to their first term of study.. In the fall semester of the Freshman year, students must enroll in courses in rea F of the Core Curriculum: 000 Comprehensive Music Laboratory, 0 Music Theory I, 40 ural Skills, 600 Principal pplied (Performance majors: credit hours; Music Education and Composition majors: credit hour), 50 Keyboard Skills, and the large ensemble appropriate to the principal applied instrument or voice.. Students must register for Principal pplied lessons each term offered until the appropriate number of credit hours have been earned in 600 and Students enroll in Principal pplied at the 600 level for the first four semesters. fter successful completion of the level- change examination, students enroll at the 4600 Level. 4. Students pursuing two degrees must meet all of the requirements for both degree programs. 5. Music majors enroll in 000 Comprehensive Music Laboratory each fall and spring semester, either until they have completed 6 semesters of satisfactory attendance, or until graduation if they have earned an S grade for each semester enrolled. Transfer credit for Comprehensive Music Laboratory must be approved by the Department Chair. 6. Passing the Keyboard- Skills course sequence ( 50, 50, 50, 50) constitutes keyboard proficiency. Students must enroll in Keyboard Skills each term offered for a minimum of four semesters and until successful completion. One or more courses in the sequence may receive credit by examination. Credit by examination for any course must be validated by the course s faculty and processed through the Music Office and the Office of the Registrar. The requirements for each proficiency level are included in the various Keyboard Skills course syllabi. REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIC TO THE WOODWIND, BRSS, & PERCUSSION; VOICE; ND STRING & GUITR PERFORMNCE- PEDGOGY OPTIONS. Ensemble requirement a. Woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists pursuing the Performance major must enroll in 70 Marching Band the first fall semester of enrollment, and in,, or Marching Band for the subsequent three fall and spring semesters. Thereafter, these students enroll in at least one upper- division wind and/or percussion ensemble appropriate to their Principal pplied area for a minimum of four semesters. b. Voice principals must enroll in 750 Concert Choir for the first four semesters. Thereafter, these students enroll in at least one upper- division vocal ensemble for a minimum of four semesters, including one semester of Chamber Singers or Opera Workshop. c. String and guitar principals must enroll in, Marching Band,, or Concert Choir for the first four semesters. Thereafter, these students enroll in at least one upper- division ensemble for a minimum of four semesters.. Principal- pplied Requirements a. Students must enroll in 600 Principal pplied for two credits each term until 8 credits are earned and the level- change examination is passed. Thereafter, the student must enroll in 4600 each term offered until a minimum of 0 credit hours are earned. ll credits earned in Principal pplied must be on a single instrument or voice. b. Students must attend Principal pplied seminars, master classes, recitals, and studio classes as part of 000. c. Solo Public Performances in Principal pplied area: Freshman year (), Sophomore year (), Junior year (), and Senior year (). d. The Performance major requires a Half Recital (0-0 minutes of music) during the second semester of upper- division Principal pplied, and a Full Recital (40-60 minutes of music) during the last semester of Principal pplied. Successful completion of 494 Half Recital is a prerequisite for permission to enroll in 494 Full Recital. Half and Full degree recitals must be auditioned for approval by a faculty committee. e. Principal- pplied voice recitals must collectively include works sung in English, French, German and Italian.
