Therefore the magazine is being extended. The Basic Report used to have 12 pages, we are now extending this to a minimum of 16 giving you more news! SPOTLIGHTS ON ARTISTS We will also use our extended space for spotlights on interesting artists, which gives you more background to use in your presentations. We will also be putting more emphasis on local acts, meaning national product that has crossover potential. EXTRA ALBUM TIPPAGE rom this week onwards you will find an extra Album Tippage in Eurotipsheet opposite the European Top 100. Our magazine already had very strong contacts with the DJ's/Producers of the most important European singles- programs but lately more and more album orientated DJ's are using our information. To further help these experts with their programming we will be putting more emphasis on albums in the future and also show the three most played albums on European radio as well as The Album Route, our LP recommendation list. This means that page 3 is now totally devoted to singles. We are happy to introduce this week on this page our Maxi Route recommending 12 -inch releases which are most suitable for programming. COMPACT DISC More and more European radio stations are broadcasting regular Compact Disc programs or are playing more CD's during their normal programs. On May 13 we will start our first of a monthly CD section aimed at our DJ's/Producers and giving news about professional hardware; most recommended CD's and New Releases. We would like to hear as much as possible from all of you out there, who already have CD programs. VIDEONEWS You will have noticed that we are extending our videonews corner which is printed bi-weekly. We hope this will help the TV producers selecting the best videos for their programs. The whole clip business is still in turmoil with various countries debating rights and payment for television use. We will keep a close watch on this situation and also introduce new videos. EURO DANCE REPORT In a few months we will be starting our bi-weekly European Dance Report which will include charts from various countries, new releases and tips from the most important European clubs. This section will be totally devoted to danceable product. THE INDEPENDENTS! Upon request from many progressive European deejays we will soon be starting a section on independant product and give more information on progressive new releases from smaller labels. We invite you, our correspondents, to actively get involved in this section and keep us very strongly informed about your personal favourites from these independants. You can read all about it on the opposite page, but for those of you checking the recommendation lists on this Tip Page you may already have spotted the difference. We are presenting our first of a weekly MAXI ROUTE containing the most recommended 12 inch records as selected by the editorial team of Eurotipsheet. You can now find our Albums Route on the Albums Tip Page which you will find every week opposite the European Album Top 100. You will also notice that Eurotipsheet is growing "fatter", more pages of news, tips and specials. Our mailing list has increased drastically with the addition of many album - orientated deejays and producers. But now let's see what "singles" music has in store for us this week); first of all no doubt European Radio will react very strongly on the solo single of reddie Mercury - I Was Born To Love You, not quite a very 'new' sound but very commercial indeed. Our second obvious choice for category Record Of The Week goes to Rick Springfield who sounds very alive and young in the synthi-based popsingle from his latest album Tao. What Springsteen couldn't really accomplish with Cover Me (though according to us still one of the best tracks of his album) will probably happen with his latest I'm On ire. Supported by an effective videoclip this one will do very well on European Rockradio. Billy Ocean shares his most intimate feelings with us on the title track of his successful album Suddenly, Howard Jones continues his success with the commercial and cheerful Look Mama while Phyllis Nielson comes very close to us with the absolutely wonderful ballad Move Closer LitHUMPE HUMPE! One of the most refreshing Euro talents of the last few months is Humpe Humpe, two sisters from Berlin, Germany who had a hit together with DO in 1983 with the European smash Codo and who we already spotted in our Germany Special March 11th. Their single 3 Of Us is about to be released in Europe through WEA and should get your utmost attention: a superb new wave production with a very infectious chorus! (Listen also to the albumtrack Yama-Ha which may be good for o)apanese trade too?!). The USA or Africa project is exploding everywhere with dramatic European consumer demand; the clip is Europe's most programmed video, the single moves as expected to number 1 (from 4 in its third week!) and is also Euro-Airplay Smash. urther to that the album is just out and will be a top selling item very soon (see also page 13). 62.TOUT SIMPLEMENT rance is reacting very strongly at the moment on a single by a female singer called Bibi with a track entitled Tout Simplement, which reminds us very strongly of a former rench hit by artist Joe Dassin (the Continental hit L'Ete Indien). Due to that same rance fast movers in this weeks Airplay Top 50 are Commodores and Ashford & Simpson's Solid (while in the a follow up has just been released called Babies) and to prove that rance is not one of the fastest markets in Europe Wham's Everything She Wants re-enters the European Top 100 singles at 51 this week. Dire Straits will be doing an extensive "CD" worldtour this year and as a warm-up their latest single So ar Away (where Mark Knopfler sounds like Mink DeVille...) is just out on the market and already moves in its second week from 36 to 13. WILLIE & THE WHO!!?? More and more artists from the Sixties are gathering together to pay tribute to the music that inspired them the most when they were growing up. Think about The Honeydrippers; vocalist Robert Plant together with a.o. Jeff Beck, Nile Rodgers and legendary Atlantic producer Ahmet Ertegun giving a new twist to r&r and r&b standards like Sea Of Love and Rockin' At Midnight. Or think about the soundtrack to the movie Porky's Revenge, George Harrison, Dave Edmunds, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Phil Collins etc. performing r&r standards like Highschool Nights and Love Me Tender. But a new and exciting superstar group is on its way. The end of this month sees the release of the Willie And The Poor Boys superstar project of which all the proceeds will go to the AR M.S. (Action Research into Multiple Sclerosis). Set up by Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, Willie And The Poor Boys has been set up as a permanent structure with five core members plus a wealth of superstars making guest appearances. The permanent members of the group are Wyman, Charlie Watts, Andy airweather Low, Geraint Watkins and Mickey Gee. Guests on the album include (a.o.) Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers, Kenney Jones and Chris Rea. "We had three goals in mind when we put together the Willie and the Poor Boys project" explains Bill Wyman who also produced the album. "We want to raise money for A.R.M.S., of course, and to keep the public aware that money is always needed for M.S. research. We also want to make a new generation aware of some of the music that inspired all of us when we were growing up. This music has its origins in the 1940's and 50's. It is a combination of blues, swing, boogie and early rock styles. As a side benefit, this project will provide exposure and employment for a number of excellent musicians who are not so well known as they should be". When Ronnie Lane became afflicted with M.S., it focused the attention of his musical friends who put together a benefit concert in London in It brought together the reunion of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck and was so successful, that it was expanded to include a series of U.S. concerts. Although most of the musicians involved had permanent commitments elsewhere, a number of them expressed interest in continuing A.R.M.S. benefit projects which eventually led to the formation of Willie and the Poor Boys. This unique project will be supported by a thirty -minute video and the first single taken from the album will be Baby Please Don't Go and released on the Mercury/Phonogram label. Other tracks on the album include You Never Can Tell, Slippin' And Slidin' and These Arms Of Mine. 5

We will spotlight important releases as well as best new albums. We will also talk about major moves in the European Top 100 Albums. Each week the three most played albums in Europe will be featured under this column and this week, as you can see, Paul Young is the most featured album on European Radio. Our deejays seem to be keen to mix softer songs like Everytime You Go Away and One Step orward with funkier stuff like Bite The Hand That eeds and Hot on. P.C.'s No Jacket Required still is Europets best sold album and second best played with the most attention for tracks such as Don't Loose My Number, Inside Out and of course the hit One More Night. Continue with a couple of Los Loboktracks, move into the country -tinged rock approach of Jason &The Scorchers and finish it up with a great blast from the Blasters album on Slash/ Warner. No doubt you will all make the We Are The World album, which has just been released an equal success as in the USA. It not only features the charity single but also interesting previously unreleased tracks by Prince & The Revolution (4 The Tears In Your Eyes), Bruce Springsteen (Trapped) and Tina Turner's version of The Motels track Total Control. Graham Parker never really broke big in spite of a string of very good records. But our ex - pump attendant is back on yet another label and we think with a very good chance this time.
