If you aren't in London, be sure to catch them on their tour, during November when they are around your area. 20th October Radio One will broadcast them in their series 'In Concert' at 6.30 p.m. After all this excitement, the band will be going into the studio to record their debut album which is slated for an early '85 release. Just to make things clear, they are going to be huge as they've just won the coveted Hot Press (Ireland's leading music paper), best newcomers award and I quote: "For bringing a breath of fresh air, colour and excitement to Irish music). Now how's that for a starter? * September 28th saw the release of a new ICICLE WORKS single, entitled Hollow Horse. In September they played a European and Scandinavian tour, followed by a tour in October * And if you are going to gigs, don't miss THE ADVENTURES on their dates, nor BILLY BRAGG, FRANK 'N' HANKS go mad on the Contraflows, the show will last at least 3 hours, and Billy Bragg will be the first on stage * Another artist (no, not Prince) who is marvellous is HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS. They will be in Amsterdam 24th of October. On 28th he'll play the Dominion London. I think I announced that before already, well, just to rnake sure you don't miss itl * Just about now, there'll be a release of the RAIDERS OF THE LOST CORVETTE, debut single entitled My Way Home. It has been recorded in Munich's Music Land Studio under supervision of Queen's engineer HANS MENZEL and produced by MACK (Queen) In Sevilla (Spain) on the set of Gergio Leone's Once Upon ATime In The West, the band shot a mini film (video) around their single * W.A.S.P. changed their drummer TONY RICHARDS, the new Stixs Beast is STEVE RILEY * ALPHAVILLE, who's not only Big In Japan, but is breaking everywhere, released their first album, entitled Forever Young. Having already 3. hits (all their released singles so far). This is another band to watch closely. Their album was produced by COLIN PEARSON & WOLFGANG LOOS * In September a new all Spanish language Ip from MENUDO was released, Currently the boys are on a 16 dates US tour. On this tour they'll introduce a new Menudo member, RICKY MARTIN and farewell RICKY MELENDFZ (he turned 16l)* JUICE NEWTON has a new album out, entitled Can't Wait Ail Night, which has been produced by RICHARD LANDIS with OTHA YOUNG as an associate. Young is also a guitar player in Juice's Road Band * Finally something new about RICK SPRINGFIELD. His new video to Bop Til You Drop was shot in San Francisco last month.and was directed by DAVID FINCH and produced by JOHN VOIGT * MEATLOAF is back again, with a few pounds of meat less and a new album and single. His Ip is called Bad Attitude, he's going on a major tour from Nov.10 - Dec.10th, after that quickly to Germany, France, Holland and Belgium for one show each. A video for his current single Modern Gin is available * JOAN JETT &THE BLACKHEARTS are touring end of October in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Holland and Scandinavia. I hope we'll all meet her in Holland! * NAZARETH is back with a new album and tour. The tour kicked off on October 2nd and culminates with a gig at the Dominion Theatre London October 29th. Support act on their tour is Swiss band BLACK ANGEL. The new album is entitled The Catch and was released end of September, produced by JOHN EDEN And now for something completely different, good for a laugh though. TURNTABLE TIPS David Bowie - Tonight - EMI America Where the Let's Dance album signalled a commercial return for Bowie, Tonight is a natural follow-up to the last one and will further broaden his audiences. Though the album relies heavily on 'dated' material there is still enough to enjoy. While side 1 is more moody and restrained (i.e. Loving The Alien, the best track on the album and Brian Wilson's God Only Knows), the second side is reserved for. dance -rock orientated material (Blue Jean, the Lieber & Stoller cover I Keep Forgetting and the heavy arranged Dancing With The Big Boys the track most in line with the material on Let's Dance). Enough anyway to keep the Duke dancing for a long time. 16 Roger Hodgson - In The Eye Of The Storm- A&M Written, arranged and produced by former Supertramp frontrnan Roger Hodgson, the album continues in much the same vein as that bands succesful melodic pop and rock style, a style that delivered more than 30 million albums worldwide. Tracks like Had A Dream, In Jeopardy, Hooked On A Problem all contain that unique combination of sparkling keyboards, strong catchy hooks and the typical voice of Hodgson, ingredients that make this album a noteworthy and commercial venture. Album comes in this week at nr. 70 in the European Album charts (due to Germany, Uk and Holland) and is about to break all over. Chaka Khan - I Feel For You - Warner Choke is one of those performers able to shine in an astonishing range of musical moods and styles. From the Bacharach/Bayer Sager composition Stronger Than Before, to the novelty of La Flamme, to the funky I Feel For You, to the catchy Hold Her, the album is probably her best effort to date. The sleeve credits a long list of different producers (9 in total), each one on a different task; Afrika Bambaataa/ /Freeeze producer John Robie taking the electrofunk cuts; Russ Titelman producing the mainstream cut Eye To Eye and Arif Mardin doing the jazzy cuts. Again Chaka establishes herself as a world -class vocalist.

And Euro radio darling Elton John should jump in all our charts next week with his new one Who Wears These Shoes. This week's duet comes from Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora. With lots of t.v. shows around Europe this single will go sky high. France could be providing some surprise hits in the coming months with Euro Crossover singles by Cookie Dingier (Femme Liberee), sounding like a Susanne -type poppy tune; Laroche Valmont (T'as Le Lock Coco) which you'll be able to sing -a -long with after only one play and a new release by the old King Johnny Halliday (Ne Tuez Pas La Libertee which means Don't Kill The Freedom). Other high entries produced on the continent are the Dutch Videokids (Woodpeckers From Space) produced by a small independent label and Jennifer Rush, who although a real born American lady, is living in Germany and was produced by CBS in that country. Stevie Wonder holds nr.1 on all 3 European Charts!! with his single holding the highest chart points recorded in our Top 100 during the 30 weeks string of Eurotipsheets. GREAT LADIES Three well-known Ladies of Rock enjoy a good week with new entries in our Top 100. Chaka Kahn holds the highest single position with I Feel For You entering at nr.34 (and her album at 72- see our Review section); Kim Wilde gives her new label MCA a good start with The Second Time emerging at nr 37 while French first lady France Gall adds another big hit to her already very impressive list with Hong Kong Star. Boney M seems to have won the Kalimba contest from Pepe and Tony... Paul Young will have a huge success again with his I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. Don't you all remember Graham Parker's R&B interpretation from 1977 (and the original by Ann Peebles)... John Waite never enjoyed a major European single hit with his Baby's, but his solo effort Missing You makes it big and goes to 17 from 35 in Europe with strong positions in the, Germany, Belgium and Ireland. In the midst of split-up rumours between Chrysalis founders Terry Ellis and Chris Wright, the label is doing extremely well with high new entries for the Ultravox (59) and Spandau Ballet (63) singles and the Billy Bragg Album (60). Billy Ocean scores with his Caribbean Queen which in some countries has names like 38 European Queen and African Queen. A record suitable for play on both Rock and Pop radio is Jim Capaldi's new one I'll Keep Holding On. Jim had an airplay hit last year with That's Love, but this new one will sell. It's already happening in Holland in its first week of release. Sheila E. is very big in the U.S. and Holland and we have no doubt she'll break through all over Europe with the second release from her In The Glamorous Life album entitled Belle Of St.Mark. Album wise it is CBS' big week with enormous sales reported for Julio Iglesias, Bade and Tote (pre -orders) all over the continent. And to add to their sales success they also have the Metropolis Soundtrack, going from 90 to 31 in the European Album Top 100. No doubt it will deliver more singlehits after Freddy Mercury's Love Kills with Bonnie Tyler and Jon Anderson amongst others. The program will be broadcast around America Two and various European countries will take programs from the BBC transcription unit. Even more names have announced their tourdates in the press recently. David Essex will be doing around 40 during the next couple of months. Gary Numan, who has formed his own label recently, will be releasing a single and album and also embarks for a nationwide tour during November. They should be recognized in their own country first * Due to a massive demand for tickets LEE TOWERS (he's also called the Sinatra of Holland) has decided to add a second show in Rotterdam Ahoy 16th October. These 2 shows are called the Gala Of The Year. Lee will be performing with the 80 piece London Studio Orchestra, by JERRY VAN ROC/YEN, the ballet of PENNY DE JAGER, backing group of HANS VERMEULEN (of Rainbow Train fame), a round stage and a computer stirred lightshow. AVRO TV will record and broadcast it in 2 specials around Lee Towers on November 30th and 8th December. In the meantime, Lee had his new single released entitled Let's Get The World Singing Again. While performing live 15th and 16th October, an album will be recorded which will be on the market only a week after the shows. Lee Towers until now is the only Dutch artist who has proven to be able to sell out twice a big hall like Ahoy, which also proves that he is an outstanding artist and does not need to be compared with the label Dutch Sinatra. He's definitely an artist on his own! * The DB's are currently in the midst of a brainstorming US tour as guests for REM. They've just released their debut album Like This * DRAGON has been presented a gold album after their sell out Body &The Beat Concert in Sydney.
