7 Day 1: Fibonacci Poem Write a Fibonacci or "Fib" Poem. A Fibonacci poem is a newer poetic form that bases itself off of the mathematical Fibonacci sequence where each number equals the previous two numbers before it. In poetry, the sequence translates to syllable count. The typical fib is a six line, 20 syllable poem with a syllable count by line of 1/1/2/3/5/8 - with as many syllables per line as the line's corresponding place in the Fibonacci sequence. However, some Fibonacci poets try to challenge themselves to make the poems go longer than 6 lines. 1
8 Day 2: Silly Seriousness Sometimes we take things too seriously, other things we don t take serious enough! Write a serious poem about something silly. Or write a silly poem about something serious. 2
9 Day 3: Alliteration Poem Write a poem that makes heavy use of alliteration. Peter piper picked a patch of perfect poems proliferating proper punctuation! 3
10 Day 4: Bagua Poem In the martial arts style known as Bagua, the numbers 64 and 8 make regular appearances--such as in the 64 hands form where there are 8 lines of 8 moves. A Bagua poem applies this same principle consisting of 64 words with 8 lines of 8 words each. It should also consist of 2 stanzas of 4 lines each. (For an extra challenge, try to make your Bagua poem have something to do with one of the 64 hexagrams of the I-Ching.) 4
11 Day 5: Future Relative Write a poem that takes the form of a letter to a future relative. It could be a spouse, an in-law or a child or grandchild. 5
12 Day 6: Archaic Word Write a poem that is dedicated to or makes good use of an archaic word that is rarely used in regular contemporary conversation. 6
13 Day 7: Lupus Teleform The Lupus Teleform is a creative type of poem somewhat similar to an Acrostic. Except instead of taking a word, you take a telephone number. And instead of writing a line for each letter, you take the number at the front of the line and have that number of syllables for that line. Take a telephone number and write a 7 or 10 line poem using each digit of the phone number as a line's syllable count. Leave a blank line or ellipsis for each 0. 7
14 Day 8: Ars Poetica An Ars Poetica poem is a poem about poetry. Write a poem about poetry! 8
15 Day 9: Concrete Poem A concrete poem, sometimes referred to as a visual or image poem, is a poem that takes the form of an image. Write a concrete poem. 9
16 Day 10: Joke Poem Write a poem that is also a joke. Perhaps a poem that is punny, or maybe just a little funny! 10
17 Day 11: Long-Short Poem Write a short poem that has a long title. The longer the title and shorter the poem the better! 11
18 Day 12: Sequel Poem Write a poem that serves as a sequel to a poem you have already written. 12
19 Day 13: Time Write a poem about time. Never enough, more than enough never stopping? Wish it would stop? Wish it would speed up? Time conquers all? Or something else. 13
20 Day 14: Advertisement Write a poem about an advertisement that stuck out to you or caught your attention. Maybe you loved it, maybe you hated it. 14
21 Day 15: Dear Journal Write a poem that takes the form of a journal entry. 15
22 Day 16: Thank You Note Write a poem that takes the form of a thank you note. 16
23 Day 17: Legal or Illegal Write a poem about something you think that should be illegal that is currently legal, or a poem about something that is illegal that you think should be currently legal. 17
24 Day 18: If I Had Me A Hammer Write a poem with the opening line If I had me a hammer 18
25 Day 19: Home Town Write a poem that celebrates your home town. What is unique or interesting about it? 19
26 Day 20: Envy Write a poem about envy. It can be your own or someone else s. 20
27 Day 21: Technology Good Write a poem about a piece of technology that you love and couldn t do without. 21
28 Day 22: Technology Bad Write a poem about a piece of technology that you can t stand and wish didn t exist. 22
29 Day 23: Mitosis Poem Modeled after Cellular Mitosis The first line is one word long. The second line is two words, one beginning with the first letter of the first line and one ending with the last letter of the first line. The next line should be four words long, continuing the pattern of first and last letters. Example: ElemenT ElectriC, ResistanT EvocativE MosaiC, RoarinG SentimenT 23
