It was here that the birth fairies lived. These were fairies who helped women in childbirth and also later protected the sons born to them. They disliked it when people came to their home. For this reason they scared off trespassers with falling stones, landslides or storms, sending them soon on their way back from where they came. (Paragraph 1) The fairies had a flock of white mountain goats which were led by a stag with golden horns who was called Zlatorog, or the Goldenhorn. In fact his horns had special powers: they led the way to the treasure in Bogatin mountain. 4 hunters on the lookout for him. They were not aware, however, that the fairies had given the Goldenhorn an additional magic power which granted him everlasting life. The boy was an excellent hunter, the best around, so they called him the Trenta Hunter. He was even protected by the birth fairies. 6 It wasn t long before their love was put to a test. One day, some foreign merchants arrived at the inn. Before long, the inn was full of joy and laughter as they spent the day drinking and dancing. Peter, a young, rich gentleman showered the innkeeper s daughter with attention and gave her exquisite gold jewellery. In the evening the Trenta Hunter arrived and asked his fiancée for a dance. Dance with you? You re a loser. You boast that you know about a mountain treasure but you haven t even brought me a Triglav flower, she replied. Her words pierced his heart. Of course I know where to find the key which opens the door to the treasure on Bogatin. I will go now to find it and when I do I will be a king compared to your wretched trader.
