Be prepared to be awestruck! Materials Needed: 1. Liquid milk 2. Drawing block paper 3. Food coloring OR liquid watercolors- red, blue and purple, black 4. Dropper 5. Liquid dishwashing soap 6. Large tray 7. Toothpick Steps: 1. Ensure that your drawing block paper can easily fit within your tray before you start. 2. Add about 3-4 tablespoons of milk into an empty tray or enough milk for a thin layer of milk to cover the bottom of your tray. 3. Add drops of food coloring or watercolors into your tray. 4. Mix the food coloring or watercolors with some dishwashing soap in the tray. 5. Use a toothpick to swirl the colors. 6. Take a sheet of paper and place it on top of the milk mixture. Press it down and gently lift it. 7. Let the sheet completely dry and behold your galaxy paper!
Well done on creating your Milky Way galaxy on paper! Now, write an ode to it. An ode is a poem expressing a strong feeling of love or respect for something or someone. You may wish to include the answers to the following questions in your ode: - What makes your Milky Way so beautiful? - What unique things do you see in your Milky Way? For example, what does it look like to you? - Why do you admire it so much? - Why did you enjoy making it? Scan the two QR codes below to read odes written by children:

Magician's Potion Imagine you are going to perform a magic trick at one of your best friend's parties. You are going to make a special magician's potion to impress everyone at the party. Here is the recipe for the party mix. Please DO NOT drink it or allow anyone else to drink it. Things you will need: (Amounts will vary based on the size of the jar.) 1. Baking Soda 2. Food coloring 3. Glitter 4. Detergent 5. Vinegar 6. Glass jar 7. Tray
Instructions: 1. Fill the jar halfway with vinegar. Then, add a few drops of one color of food coloring and some glitter. 2. Squeeze in some detergent, stir, and place the jar on a tray. 3. Add a full teaspoon of baking soda and then, stir again. Watch what happens to your potion. 4. Keep stirring as you add more baking soda and vinegar.
After making the potion, explain to the crowd at the party what the potion could be used for. You may use the template below to guide you: Ladies and gentlemen, I have created this magical potion called. The potion can do wonders like, and. Very soon, you will see change to when I (state how you are going to use the potion) and say 'Abracadabra!!'
How did you feel when you were creating the potion? Why? How did you feel when you were performing the magic trick at the party? Why? How did the crowd react when they saw you using the magic potion? Describe the expressions on their faces.
Tornado Alert! A tornado is a powerful and mighty column of air that grows out of storm clouds and reaches the ground. A tornado is very dangerous and can cause widespread destruction. To get a glimpse of the force of a tornado, make you own by simply following these simple steps: 1. Fill a jar (about 250g) with water until it is ¾ full. 2. Add one teaspoon of vinegar and one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid soap. 3. Add a little glitter or food colouring into the mixture. 4. Close the lid of the jar tightly. 5. Hold the jar by the lid and rotate it to swirl the water. 6. Watch the tornado form.
Now, imagine that you had witnessed a REAL tornado from afar and a news reporter is asking you to describe your experience. What would you say? You may wish to use the following questions as a guide: -What did it look like? -What did it feel like? -What did it sound like? -What did it destroy? -How did you and others react to seeing the tornado? Also, use similes if you can! For example, The tornado was like a vicious serpent from the sky, hunting for its prey on the ground.
Soda Geyser A geyser is a hot spring from which water and steam gush out. Today, you will be making your own geyser from which soda would gush out! Things you need: 1. An outdoor venue (This can get pretty messy!) 5. A toy figurine of a human or animal character (If you can t find one, you can always make one with Lego blocks.)
Steps: 1. Lay the mat or tablecloth on a table in an outdoor venue. 2. Unscrew the cover of the bottle. 3. Put the figurine character into the bottle. 4. Drop the five Mentos sweets into the bottle. 5. If you don t want to get wet, quickly step away from the bottle once the Mentos sweets are placed in it. 6. Watch the geyser flow and release the figurine character. To watch a video of this experiment being carried out, scan this QR code:
Now, imagine the character telling you about the awesome experience your character had being under the soda geyser. What questions would you ask your character and how would your character respond? Q: A: Q: A: Q: A:
