1 Area/Division/District 103 EVALUATION and HUMOROUS SPEECH CONTEST Scripts Area Director/Division Director/Contest Chair calls contest to order. Area Director/Division Director/Contest Chair introduces Contest Toastmaster. CONTEST TOASTMASTER Provide opening remarks which includes: Brief introduction/purpose of speech contests (1 minute or less) Instructions for audience to turn off any devices that make noise (1 minute or less) Recognition of dignitaries in the room using the District 103 Dignitary Sign-in Sheet (at registration table) o Mention officers in order of District/Division/Area/Past District Governors/Directors o State their position titles (e.g. District Director) AND designation (e.g. ACS, ALB or DTM) We will have two contests: Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests. The first contest will be the Evaluation Contest. When that contest has concluded, we will have a 10-minute break. After the break, we will conduct the Humorous Speech Contest. Our contestants will be speaking from the following speaking area (demonstrate/show the speaking area for contestants and audience). Keep in mind, while the contestants are speaking, no one can enter or leave the room. Again, I ask that you turn off all alarms, beepers, pagers, phones, or any devices that make noise. In addition, please put away your cameras as no pictures can be taken while the contestants are competing. Contestants, Timers, Ballot Counters, and Sergeant-at-Arms have all been briefed prior to the beginning of this contest. Everyone is aware of the Toastmasters International rules that govern this contest. 1
2 As a reminder to all, Contestants will have two (2) to three (3) minutes to deliver their evaluation responses. Contestants who speak less than 1 minute 30 seconds or more than 3 minutes 30 seconds will be disqualified. Timing will begin with the first definite verbal or nonverbal communication with the audience. The Timers will show a green light or card at 2 minutes; yellow light or card at 2 minutes 30 seconds; and a red light or card at 3 minutes. The red light or card will remain on until the contestant finishes speaking. There will be no indication of running past time. The Sergeant-at-Arms will escort all contestants except the first from the room. During the minute of silence, the Sergeant-at-Arms will escort the next contestant into the room. Once a contestant has spoken, he or she may remain in the room. Again, no one should enter or leave the room during the contestants presentations. You may do so if time permits during the minute of silence between presentations. With that said LET THE CONTEST BEGIN! I will now give you the speaking order for the Evaluation Speech Contest Contestant No.1 Contestant No.2 Contestant No.3 Contestant No.4 Contestant No.5 Contestant No.6 In order for our Evaluation contestants to compete, we need someone to speak for them. Please help me welcome to the lectern: 2
