1 Welcome to the Gasworks Circus Showdown 2016 EOI! Gasworks Circus Showdown is a professional development program for artists culminating in a live onstage circus and physical theatre gala competition. Gasworks Circus Showdown is a platform for circus performers to develop innovative acts for presentation to a live audience and specialist judges, while honing their craft and learning new business skills along the way. Gasworks Arts Park invites individuals, duos or groups to participate in Gasworks Circus Showdown. One lucky entrant will be crowned Gasworks Circus Showdown Champion! Gasworks Circus Showdown provides an opportunity for emerging circus artists to showcase their vitality and talent with tangible outcomes in a professional venue. This competition-based performance series will feature two heats, live judging and the event will culminate in a Grand Final Gala show. Who is it aimed at? Circus performers of all kinds are welcome to enter. You must complete all sections of the entry form and be available for the rehearsal and performance dates including the Grand Final Gala show. How will it work? Submit your completed entry form along with vision or images of your act. Entries will be shortlisted, and those finalists will then perform in front of a live audience and our judges in the Gasworks Circus Showdown. Your act must be between 10 and 15 minutes in duration. Who will judge it? The judges will be drawn from Australia s professional circus and theatre ranks and details will be announced soon. The live audience will also be a judge and audience response will be an important criteria. Each judge will be visible and score the entrants in three key areas: technique, storytelling and theatricality, and finally, through audience reaction. Previous industry professionals who have participated as judges include Matt Wilson, Anni Davey, Kate Fryer and Andrea Ousley. 1
