S. Fitzgerald «The Last Tycoon». The analysis is made both on the plot and on the lexical levels with the use of the method of semantization and text search. The relevance of this work is that the interest to investigation of film production exists always as this activity always demands search and creation of something new, besides, cinema as a type of mass media has a great impact on spectator audience, has ability to form outlook therefore the people who take part in making movies, undoubtedly, are of interest. There is a large number of the researches devoted to this subject, for example S.V. Komarov's works [2], N.P. Sokolova [1] and others. There are questions open for discussion nowadays, for example, the influence of Hollywood on the American society, studying of peculiarities of culture, that is preaching Hollywood, and other. The history of Hollywood begins in In the early twenties the film industry of the USA begins to form. For a start, silent movies were shot, however interest in them was gradually lost, but with the invention of sound cinema in 1927 the audience began to be interested in movies again, and film companies to prosper [1, P. 86]. Thus, Hollywood in the 30th of last century entered a new age of creation of cinema.

2 2 The purpose of this article is the research of a subject of Hollywood in the 30-th years of the 20-th century on material of the work "The Last Tycoon", one of the greatest writers F.S. Fitzgerald who was personally familiar with the atmosphere prevailing on platforms of the American cinema. To achieve the above-stated goals, it is necessary to name some facts from the life of the author, his connection with Hollywood and the novel on the basis of which the research was conducted. F.S. Fitzgerald differed in incredible talent for writing. Literary abilities of young Fitzgerald revealed at Newman's school where he wrote small stories and plays for a theatrical circle. In student's years the writer achieved success, publishing plays in such popular magazines as "Triangle", "Tiger", "The literary magazine Nassau" [3, P. 207]. During his study in college, there was World War I in Europe. The American youth of that time was captured by the idea to go to the front. There was also a young writer among them, however in military operations of army where he served, did not get. In 1918 Francis Fitzgerald met Zelda Seyr [4]. This event to a great extent affected not only views of the writer, but also and plots of his novels, for example, "This Side of Paradise", "Tender is the Night", "The Great Gatsby", and others. Works of art of the writer include such novels as: "This Side Of Paradise", "Tender Is The Night", "The Beautiful And Damned", "The Great Gatsby" and others. F.S. Fitzgerald had been visiting Hollywood since He was directly involved in creation of movies in the 30-40th, at the same time working on the novel "The Last Tycoon". In "The Last Tycoon" the plot assumes comprehensive disclosure of an image of the main character, Monroe Star, a gifted producer, one of the owners of a large Hollywood film firm. A prototype of the main character was a Hollywood producer Irving of Talberg who had made outstanding career. Under his leadership the MGM company (Metro-Goldwyn Meyer) became soon an embodiment of Hollywood the richest and the most successful in the world. The author described life, which existed in Hollywood during this period in this novel. Action of the novel happens in Hollywood, the main characters of the book are

3 3 somehow connected with this film studio. The narration is led on behalf of Cecilia Brady, the daughter of the large Hollywood film figure who fell in love with the partner of the father Monroe Star. The main character is rich, sincerely loves cinema, excellently knows the business, is a creative person. Through a working day Fitzgerald managed to show how Hollywood in the 1930th years was arranged and what atmosphere prevailed there and also how movies were created. Soon in the foreground there is a motive of love of the hero to Cathleen who is accidentally met by it who is similar to his wife who had died a few years ago. However here the main character fails as his love becomes unrequited. Activity of each hero is presented in the 3th and 4th chapters. Fitzgerald described in these chapters all process of creation of movies in Hollywood in the 30th of last century. Monroe Star tries to create truly feature films, without being beyond the business system of Hollywood. Star is absorbed in the business completely as all his life consists in it. Realization of the theme of Hollywood happens both on subject, and on the lexical levels with the use of various terms in the film industry. In the analyzed novel it can be, both a professional slang, and names of professions of people who take part to a variable degree during creation of movies. Let's begin with the following example: "He was Minna Davis' husband, he's a producer " [5, P. 126]. It is told about a profession of the main character. Monro of Star was one of the best producers in Hollywood. At the beginning of the 20th of last century the profession of the director was forced out by "producers". These concepts are very close, however it is necessary to underline distinctions. The director is a person, who manages cast, distributing roles. Duties of the producer are wider: the producer manages not only creative process, but also financial process of creation of movies. Thus, the producer creates completely the project, the movie [6]. The assistant to the producer is the screenwriter developing the scenario for movies. There were a lot of screenwriters on the platform, proceeding from the novel, which confirms the sentence: "He may have ten writers working ahead of me or behind me, system which he so thoughtfully invented." [5, P. 68]. It was necessary for productive and

4 4 fast creation of movies. However it should be noted that for the term "screenwriter" the author uses the word "writer", but not "screenwriter" or "scriptwriter". Let's try to understand distinctions of these terms. "Screenwriter" - the talented person who does not have necessary for this profession education, he is a specialized contract freelancer. "Scriptwriter" - a person, who writes dialogues for each actor, thinks over all details of the scenario [7]. Thus, the second term is a little narrow and assumes education in the field and also signing of the contract with film company whereas the first term of it does not demand. "Writer" specializes in creation of a plot, the main idea [7]. Wylie Whyte in the novel was one of them. Its scenarios, despite some inaccuracies, were approved by Monroe Star that spoke about presence of talent at Wylie as not all was accepted by the main character. The terminology used in cinema is presented in dialogues. For example, in the sentence: "Mike s a gag man he was out here when I was in the cradle. Mike, show Mr. Boxley a double wing, clutch, kick and scram." there is a term gagman which is interpreted as a person to whose duties creation of gags is included [5, P. 78; 5, P. 94]. Gag means a comedy reception which has obvious absurd [2, P. 176]. However in this context, gag means a trick, that is, Mike is a performer of tricks and Star asks him to show to Monroe several tricks for Mr. Boksley to make him laugh [8, P. 567]. The novel "The Last Tycoon" comes to an end with the fact that Cecilia and Monroe were seen together everywhere, then the manuscript breaks. The conflict of spiritual and material is traced in the novel. It reveals that financial tycoons of Hollywood were interested in profits, without paying much attention to art quality of the mass, serial, continuously repeating the same samples of cinema products, the products of Hollywood exactly represent the most important part of spiritual culture of the USA. Generalizing the aforesaid, it should be mentioned that the 30-th "Golden Age" of Hollywood which had considerable influence on life of the American viewer [9]. Depicting Hollywood, "factory of dreams", in the novel "The Last Tycoon", F.S. Fitzgerald described not only processes of shooting movies, but also customs which are presented at film studios.
