Population and Demography The population estimates describe the size, regional distribution and age and gender structure of the population of the Abu Dhabi Emirate for mid-year Statistics and corresponding key indicators on births, deaths, marriages and divorce for the calendar year 2014 describe the vital events affecting population change. The resident population of the Abu Dhabi Emirate is 2,656,448 people in In mid-year 2014 the estimated population in Abu Dhabi Region was 1.63 million (62%), Al Ain Region 0.70 million (26.5%), and Al Gharbia 0.31 million (11.8%). In Abu Dhabi, fertility is higher than most developed regions of the world, and mortality remains extremely low. In 2014, Crude Birth Rates and Crude Death Rates were 14.3 births and 1.2 deaths per 1000 population respectively. The mid-year 2014 population estimate is revised. In 1975, the total population of the Abu Dhabi Emirate was 211,812 people, according to the 1975 Census, and this figure increased to 1,399,484 people in the 2005 Census. In Mid 2014 the population estimated to be 2,656,448. Of the total Abu Dhabi Emirate population, 507,479 people (19.1%) are Emirati citizens. Of the citizens, 262,170 (51.6%) live in Abu Dhabi Region, and 215,759 (42.5%) in Al Ain Region, leaving 29,550 (5.8%) in Al Gharbia. The non-citizen population comprise 80.9% of the total resident population. Of the non-citizens 1,376,771 people (64.1%) live in Abu Dhabi Region. More than 66.5% of the population of Abu Dhabi Emirate are males, due to an influx of male migrant workers. The population density of Abu Dhabi Emirate in 2014 was 44.7 persons per square kilometre. The population density in Abu Dhabi Region, Al Ain Region and Al Gharbia were 148.9, 52.6, and 8.9 persons per square kilometre respectively. Al Gharbia is the most sparsely populated region in the Abu Dhabi Emirate but with a fast population growth.
