4 NEW RELEASES THE POST FRI 19 JAN THURS 1 FEB DIR: STEVEN SPIELBERG 2017 USA 1 HR 56 MINS Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in a thrilling drama that is already garnering significant awards buzz. Katharine Graham (Streep) is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper - The Washington Post. With help from her editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), Graham races to catch up with The New York Times to publish the leaked Pentagon Papers, detailing the US government s misleading portrayal of the Vietnam War and exposing a massive cover-up that spanned three decades and four US Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers - and their very freedom - to help bring long-buried truths to light. The Post may be set in 1971 but its theme about press freedom is all about today. Spielberg rushed to get the film completed and released within a year: I just felt that there was an urgency to reflect 1971 and 2017 because they were very terrifyingly similar. The Post was named the best film of 2017 by the National Board of Review, a New York-based 100 year-old group of academics, filmmakers and professionals. Streep was named best actress and Hanks was voted best actor, setting the film up as an early front-runner for the Oscars. ACCESS SCREENING The 6.30pm screening on Tues 30 Jan will include audio description and on-screen captioning.

Molly s Game is based on the true story of Molly Bloom (Chastain), an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, business titans and the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba), who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe. ACCESS SCREENING The 6.00pm screening on Tues 16 Jan will include audio description and on-screen captioning. SANCTUARY FRI 29 DEC THURS 4 JAN DIR: LEN COLLIN 2016 IRELAND 1 HR 27 MINS Sanctuary is one of the most ambitious, innovative and deeply moving Irish films of recent times. Larry (Kieran Coppinger) and Sophie (Charlene Kelly) are in love. They bribe the feckless Tom (Robert Doherty) to book them into a hotel for an afternoon tryst and look forward to getting to know each other, like countless couples before them. By attempting to be intimate, they aren t just breaking the rules they re breaking the law. 6 NEW RELEASES THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI FRI 12 THURS 25 JAN DIR: MARTIN MCDONAGH 2017 UK/USA 1 HR 55 MINS Martin McDonagh s (In Bruges) third feature is a characteristically pitch-black comedic drama featuring a blistering central performance from Frances McDormand. It s been seven months since her daughter was murdered and foul-mouthed, tough-as-nails Mildred Hayes (McDormand) is fed up. Fuelled by grief and outraged that the investigation has gone quiet, she provokes the local police department with a series of messages plastered on three disused billboards outside her home town of Ebbing, Missouri. So begins a rapidly escalating and very public feud between Mildred and venerated community leader and family man, Chief Willoughby (Woody Harrelson). The situation is exacerbated when blundering side-kick, Officer Dixon (Sam Rockwell) gets involved. Just as unhinged as Mildred, but with a significantly lower IQ, Dixon s penchant for violence is stoked by his leaden, borderline psychotic mother to whom he is unhealthily attached. McDonagh s latest exploration of the American psyche is by turns riotously funny and deeply sobering, cutting to the quick of social division and tearing to shreds like the tattered billboards that Mildred papers over the all-american dreaminess of the Capra-esque small town. A universally splendid cast is rounded out by Abbie Cornish, Peter Dinklage, John Hawkes, Clarke Peters and Caleb Landry Jones. A corrosively humorous drama of festering injustice, Shakespearean rage, grave reckoning and imperfect redemption, which unfolds with the epic dimensions of a classic Western showdown. DAVID ROONEY, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

DARKEST HOUR FRI 26 JAN THURS 1 FEB DIR: JOE WRIGHT 2017 UK 2 HRS 5 MINS Newly-appointed Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman) must ponder a history-making choice in director Joe Wright s (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) new biographical drama, Darkest Hour. MUGEN NO JÛNIN BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL FRI 29 DEC THURS 4 JAN DIR: TAKASHI MIIKE 2017 JAPAN/UK 2 HRS 21 MINS SUBTITLED Cult favourite Takashi Miike (13 Assassins) slices and slashes his way through this stunning swordplay adventure.
