2 About MCCT Founded in 1986 by a group of local artists, Monroe County Civic Theater is a 501c3 not-for-profit community theater company whose goal is to bring quality classical theater to Monroe County and surrounding areas while providing experience in all aspects of theater production to all interested persons, regardless of their level of ability or experience. Nearly thirty years later, MCCT is Bloomington s only all-volunteer amateur community theatre. We learn and play together in a diverse atmosphere that celebrates individual accomplishments and contributions no matter how big or how small. We remain devoted to providing opportunities for individuals no matter what their experience or background to know the many challenges and rewards of creating live theater Board Yolanda Valdivia Phillip Addison Brant Hughes Frank Buczolich Steve Heise Maryann Iaria Roy Sillings President Vice-President Treasurer Secretary Member Member Member Member Info To become a member, visit mcct.org for more information. To volunteer, write to info@mcct.org. To get involved as an actor, watch Monroe County Civic Theater on facebook to see audition announcements.

3 Macbeth Macbeth is Shakespeare s deepest dive into the ocean of the imagination, written at a time when the fear of what would happen, of dark prophecy, of the nightmare images of the mind seemed fully capable of manifesting in reality. The play driven by what is not seen, and has reflections in the dark which only time can reveal. On the eve of Monroe County Civic Theatre s 30 th anniversary season, MCCT has done a rare thing, to take personnel from the Shakespeare in the Park production of 2012, combine them with professional artists donating their time and skill, and give them a fullness of time to nurture the Bard s deepest planted seeds. About the ShowThere are several things that make this version of Macbeth unique. Costumes: The cast and crew of this production have been dedicated to the idea of reuse and re-purposing where possible. Used items from Goodwill, Salavation Army and previous Monroe County Civic Theatre productions as well as found items from nature and crew homes were refashioned to create at least 75% of the costumes, props and sets you will see on stage. Using everything from acorns found in the woods near Blue Ridge that line Duncan s crown to quartz from a creek bed in Unionville that decorates the Land Witch s mirror to the 5 different garments re-purposed into an original design to create Lady Macbeth s black gown (a 95% refashion), our excellent design and construction crew were dedicated to creating as green a production as possible. Weapons: Weapons in service during Shakespeare s time ranged from centuries-old Viking era survivors to the newest fashions from Italy and Germany. Banquo carries with a Viking sword and Seyton an Anglo-Saxon seax, while Malcolm and Donalbain carry stylish Italianate rapiers and daggers. Most other swords are variations on the broad-blade medieval design, Macbeth s being a hand-and-a-half which could be used with either one hand or two. The armor ranges from Siward s chain mail ultimately going back millennia to the early Celts to some plate on Macbeth and the Bloody Captain. The blades are not battle-sharp or very pointed, but all are steel and thus must be used with caution on stage. Sound:From the time the show starts, there is no recorded sound or music. All the sound cues are generated from equipment backstage (including a most formidable knocker), and the music at intermission are live songs from the Elizabethan period.

9 Janet Templeton-Heise (Spirit) has always loved live theater, and caught the bug early on as one of the King s many children in a production of The King and I in 3rd grade, and felt the energy from everyone laughing when the director said, he s not a tree to climb, just reach up for a hug! Janet was involved in vocal and instrumental performing for many years, in different ways and places. After moving to Bloomington in 1988, she focused on other areas of my life, and ended up falling in love with and marrying a handsome young man, who ended up re-entering acting after their son turned two.
