Set in the trenches at Aisne in 1918, the film follows a group of British officers as they await their fate as the German army prepare an offensive. Starring Sam Claflin, Paul Bettany, Asa Butterfield, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones and Tom Sturridge. HHHH "HORRIFIC YET BEAUTIFUL" The Times LOVELESS Dir: Andrey Zvyagintsev I Russia I 2017 I 122 mins I (15) In Russian with English subtitles The follow up to Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev s acclaimed Leviathan (2014). The 12 year old son of an estranged couple going through a vicious divorce disappears after witnessing one of their fights. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes festival and has a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language film. HHHHH ANOTHER MASTERPIECE The Guardian THE MERCY Dir: James Marsh I UK I 2017 I 101 mins I (12A) James Marsh (The Theory Of Everything) directs the incredible true story of Donald Crowhurst (Colin Firth), an amateur sailor who competed in the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in the hope of becoming the first person in history to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe without stopping. THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS Dir: Mark Herman I UK/USA I 2008 I 92 mins I (12) We mark Holocaust Memorial Day with this moving drama adapted from John Boyne's bestselling novel, that sees the Second World War through the eyes of an eight year old boy. The film follows the unlikely friendship that forms between Bruno (Asa Butterfield), the son of a Nazi commandant, and Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Young aristocrat Jeanne (Judith Chemla) marries local viscount who soon reveals himself to be a miserly and unfaithful husband. THE FINAL YEAR Dir: Greg Barker I USA I 2017 I 90 mins I (Cert. TBC) A unique insiders account of President Barack Obama s foreign policy team during their last year in office. The documentary features unprecedented access inside the White House and State Department, offering an uncompromising view of the inner workings of the Obama Administration as they prepare to leave power after eight years.
