2 Tonight, the world is wild and bright. Passion and revolution take the stage. Le jazz hot pulsates in the city of lights. Welcome to Asolo Rep s 57th season! World class theatre, all made right here in Sarasota, and we don t want you to miss a thing. Season subscriptions are on sale now. Single tickets are on sale now to donors and subscribers and will be available to the general public beginning September 26 online, and September 28 at the box office and by phone. Times of Change We know who we are. By that we mean our values are set, our ideas about the world concrete. When we face a great challenge to these fundamental assumptions, it often seems that there are two clear options. We harden ourselves and defend, or we risk accepting the most daunting prospect of all: change. Change is always happening in microscopic, evolutionary ways and in profound, global, social, economic, political, and religious ways. The essence of life is change, and it goes to the heart of being human that we are always assessing the nature of change. Whether it moves us forward or holds us back. The fourth season of our American Character Project captures diverse groups of people, as well as the country itself, in moments of deep, fundamental change. We re telling stories about forbidden love arising amidst the rivalry of two culturally divided street gangs, monumental social changes driven by firebrand politicians and African-American civil rights leaders, feuding artists whose talents are matched only by their egos, a young man whose coming of age tests his entire family, parents coming to terms with their children s unexpected engagement, two multicultural couples whose dinner party disintegrates into a highly charged confrontation, and a young African-American woman who exiles herself to Paris where she becomes an international celebrity and war hero. The plays illustrate the challenges inherent in forging the American character. But more than outlining our differences, these works repeatedly drive home the fact that at the core, we are all the same all human and our differences are, in actuality, incredibly slight. EARLIER START TIMES! Start times for Wednesday & Thursday performances will be moved one half-hour earlier to 1:30pm and 7:30pm. Tuesday evenings remain at 7:30pm. All Preview performances are at 8pm. SEASON 4: TIMES OF CHANGE As our audience, you are being asked for a brief moment in time to walk in someone else s shoes and broaden your understanding of what it is to be human, and American. We are rarely offered opportunities to truly empathize with a different point of view, but theatre demands it. It demands an empathetic expansion of your spirit and mind. Change can be difficult, but it can also be thrilling, electric, and invigorating. It is vital to life. Come to Asolo Rep this season, and be open. Be changed. 4 We re talking big laughs! New York Post A sensational night of theatre NPR ALL THE WAY By Robert Schenkkan Directed by Emily Sophia Knapp Based on the original production directed by Bill Rauch Winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best Play Jan. 8 Apr. 9 Previews Jan. 6 & 7 One man. One year. One chance to change America. It s 1964, a pivotal year in American history and Lyndon Baines Johnson sits center stage. A masterful and ruthless politician with towering ambitions and an indomitable will, he will do whatever it takes to pass the landmark Civil Rights Act and secure his re-election. Go all the way with LBJ, Martin Luther King, Jr., J. Edgar Hoover, Hubert Humphrey, and more in this exhilarating portrayal of one of the most tumultuous times in our country s history. CONTAINS MATURE LANGUAGE AND THEMES. LIVING ON LOVE By Joe DiPietro Based on the play Peccadillo by Garson Kanin Directed by Peter Amster Jan. 15 Feb. 25 Previews Jan. 13 & 14 There s only one person with a worse temperament, bigger ego, and more flamboyant sense of self-importance than opera diva Raquel her husband, the Italian maestro Vito De Angelis. When Raquel discovers Vito has become enamored with the young lady hired to ghostwrite his largely fictionalized autobiography, she retaliates by hiring her own handsome young scribe to chronicle her life as an opera star. Asolo Rep is thrilled to present the regional premiere of this sparkling new comedy. 6 Asolo Rep 15/16 Asolo Rep 15/16 7

5 ... a miracle of sense and sensibility. The New York Post Powerful... riotously funny. Washingtonian AH, WILDERNESS! By Eugene O Neill Directed by Greg Leaming Jan. 22 Apr. 10 Previews Jan. 20 & 21 A comedy... by Eugene O Neill? Yes! One of the pillars of 20th century drama also penned the wonderfully romantic and sweetly funny Ah, Wilderness! Set in New England in the days of America s innocence, the play looks back to an idyllic age when family life revolved around picnics and Sunday drives in the family Buick. On July 4, 1906, while the Miller family is planning its holiday festivities, dreamy-eyed middle child Richard is spurned by his first love and sets out on a rebellious adventure into the adult world. Family life and all its foibles are beautifully portrayed in O Neill s coming of age love letter to America s simpler time. GUESS WHO S COMING TO DINNER By Todd Kreidler Based on the screenplay by William Rose Directed by Frank Galati Mar. 11 Apr. 17 Previews Mar. 9 & 10 Dr. Prentice is everything the Draytons could have hoped for in a son-inlaw at least on paper. But this progressive white couple s proud liberal sensibilities are put to the test when their daughter, fresh from a whirlwind romance, surprises them by bringing home her African-American fiancé. Playwright Todd Kreidler puts a fresh, energized spin on the momentous 1967 film. As the story deftly navigates the shifting waters of race, class and family acceptance, personal beliefs clash with the mores of the late 1960s in a warm, funny exploration of love and culture. 8 Asolo Rep 15/16 Asolo Rep 15/16 9

Directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Joey McKneely and starring Grammy nominee, multi-platinum recording artist and Broadway actress Deborah Cox, this dazzling new musical revolves around Baker s stint as the star of the Folies Bergère in Paris, her scandalous affair with Swedish Crown Prince Gustav VI, and her service in the French Resistance during World War II. In The Actor s Nightmare, called by The Soho News A spoof of curtain raisers destined to be a classic curtain raiser, an accountant finds himself forced to perform onstage with devastatingly hilarious consequences. With The Real Inspector Hound, Tom Stoppard takes absurdist comedy to new heights when a performance of a stodgy British murder mystery draws in two unsuspecting theatre critics. A wild evening of comedy using the entire second year graduate acting company. By Tom Stoppard By David Ives Adapted from the comedy by Pierre Corneille Directed by Justin Lucero Dec. 30 Jan. 17 Preview Dec. 29 Dorante is charming, witty, handsome, and a pathological liar whose outlandish stories create an ever-increasing series of problems for himself and everyone around him. A bubbling French farce adapted by the funniest American playwright of this or any other age, the author of Venus in Fur and The School for Lies. FSU/ASOLO CONSERVATORY By William Shakespeare Directed by Jonathan Epstein Feb. 24 Mar. 13 Preview Feb. 23 One of the darkest, most powerful and disturbing works by this playwright. The Scottish nobleman Macbeth receives a supernatural prophecy and chooses a life of violence, unleashing the devastating psychological effects of evil and the lust for power. Featuring the entire second year graduate acting company of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory. FOR ACTOR TRAINING Adapted by Ingmar Bergman from Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House Directed by Andrei Malaev-Babel Apr. 13 May 1 Preview Apr. 12 Ibsen s powerful masterpiece about one woman who discovers the crippling restrictions placed upon her, and upon all women, by her culture, adapted by one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. This searing retelling pares the story down to the five people caught in the web of lies and misinformation, and as a result cuts to the heart of this classic and deeply tragic play. 14 Asolo Rep 15/16 Asolo Rep 15/16 15

16 Are you ready to change somebody s world? Think back to the very first time you saw live theatre. If you were a child you likely saw your realm of make believe expand more than you could have ever imagined. If you were an adult, your perspective on the world likely shifted. Theatre can change a person s world by encouraging them to look at life through someone else s eyes in a way that no other form of entertainment can. By contributing to Asolo Rep you can help connect young people and adults to compelling theatre and education programs that offer new ideas and perspectives. Your gift allows Asolo Rep to continue its mission to entertain, engage and inspire our community through theatre that has the power to change the way we think and the way we live. You may discover that it changes your world too. With a gift of $75 or more, you will receive donor discounts on show tickets and events like Costume Designer Brunches, complimentary admission to the Inside Asolo Rep series and reserved seating at the annual Season Announcement event, behind-the-scenes access at the annual Halo Day Tour of the Robert and Beverly Koski Production Center... and so much more! 1 Change somebody s world today Add a donation to your online ticket purchase at: tickets.asolorep.org or when you call the box office Give online at: asolorep.org/donate Call the Development Office at: ext Mail your contribution to: Development Office Asolo Repertory Theatre 5555 N. 18 Patron Services Refreshments The lobby is open one hour prior to each performance. Patrons may enjoy drinks and light refreshments catered by Morton s Gourmet Market and Catering prior to the show and at intermission. Hearing Devices Complimentary hearing amplification system headsets are available in our lobby for both theatres. The Cook Theatre is equipped with a Hearing Loop System, allowing members to use their hearing aids as sound enhancement devices. The Hearing Loop System is not installed in the Mertz Theatre because it is incompatible with that theatre s wireless sound system. The Historic Asolo Theater has a Hearing Loop System, and wireless listening devices for your convenience. Ticket Policies Parking Convenient free parking is available in front of the theatre. Parking for weekday matinee performances is limited. Please plan to arrive early. Parking for the disabled is on the front and east side, with ramp access to the lobby. Wheelchair Accommodations Wheelchair seating is available in all theatres and must be requested in advance. Please call the box office. Stairs Mertz Theatre orchestra seating is at street level. An elevator is available to the mezzanine, with a few steps into seats. Balcony seating is steep, and at least one flight of stairs must be maneuvered. In the Cook Theatre, most seats require mobility up or down a small number of stairs.
