Visiting Professor Continuing research on timbre and orchestration, as well as beginning a new collaboration on virtual / augmented reality in acoustics. September 2015 July 2016 Ohio State University Columbus, OH, U.S.A. Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher in Music Cognition Continuing collaboration with Dr. David Huron with ongoing projects. Providing technical and mentoring advices to students and other lab members in terms of experimental design, data acquisition, data analysis, statistics, and computer programming. October 2013 August 2015 Ohio State University Columbus, OH, U.S.A. Postdoctoral Fellow in Music Cognition under the supervision of Dr. David Huron Conducted projects in music perception and cognition, as well as prepared relevant manuscripts for publication using various methods including computer modeling, corpus studies, and behavioral experiments. Provided technical assistance and advice to grad students and other lab personnel concerning experimental design, data acquisition, data analysis, statistics, and computer programming. Responsible for coordinating human subjects pool, as well as managing documentation and issues regarding Institutional Review Board and all human subjects protocols. September 2008 December 2012 McGill University Montreal, QC, Canada Research Assistant for Dr. Stephen McAdams This research became the basis of my Ph.D. dissertation work. Designed listening experiments and generated stimuli using MATLAB and audiosculpt, recruited and ran participants for them, analyzed the data to model a psychoacoustic phenomenon using MATLAB and SPSS and presented the findings at conferences. June July 2010 Telluride Neuromorphic Engineering Workshop Telluride, CO, U.S.A. Attention EEG Project Team Member (Lead: Dr. Malcolm Slaney) Designed and carried out an EEG experiment to study the effect of bottom-up attention. The results (very preliminary) showed that irrelevant salient distractors were suppressed, which is consistent with what has been observed in the visual saliency literature University of Washington Seattle, WA, U.S.A. Research Assistant for Dr. Murat Azizoglu This research became the basis of my Master s thesis. Reviewed the existing literature, proposed new protocols, simulated and analyzed them using MATLAB for performance evaluations. II. TEACHING EXPERIENCE August 2016 Current Rochester Institute of Technology Rochester, NY, U.S.A. Course Instructor for CPET 121 (Computational Problem Solving I). Teaching an introductory undergraduate course on programming using C++. Responsible for delivering lectures to explain concepts, as well as guiding students through hands-on exercises in class. Also responsible for holding office hours and grading homework assignments, projects and exams. Working with a teaching assistant, who provides an inclass support for students questions during hands-on exercises. Topics included: Selection, repetition, functions, variable scope, pass by value/reference, arrays, input/output formats using files, pointers. January April 2011, 2010 McGill University Montreal, QC, Canada Course Instructor for MUMT 302 (New Media Production I).
4 Co-taught an undergraduate class with another Ph.D. student. Responsible for teaching theory classes and creating homework assignments and exam questions, whereas the other lecturer taught more hands-on applications and project assistance. Worked with a teaching assistant, who graded homework assignments and the midterm and helped students with assignments and project. All three of us evaluated final projects together. Topics included: Basic acoustics, sampling and quantization, sound synthesis techniques (physical and spectral modeling), compression, audio file formats, and audio effects, etc. January March 2008, 2007, 2006 Stanford University Stanford, CA, U.S.A. Teaching Assistant for Perceptual Audio Coding class. Responsible for weekly review sessions, office hours and provide off-hour help and advice to students, and grading homework assignments and projects. This class required an extensive hands-on coding for each student so that through each homework assignment they would build one module of an audio codec, which would be complete at the stage of the last assignment. Topics included: Quantization, time-to-frequency mapping, introduction to psychoacoustics, basic building blocks of an audio codec, audio codec evaluation, overview of MPEG and other audio coding standards. April June 2008, 2007, 2006 Stanford University Stanford, CA, U.S.A. Teaching Assistant for Digital Audio Effects class. Responsible for office hours and provide off-hour help and advice to students, and grading homework assignments and projects. Assisted with developing course materials including audio and figure examples.
