7 Members come from throughout the Greater Milwaukee Area and range from seventeen to seventy-nine years of age. The band it always interested in new members and those desiring additional information should contact the director, Henry Canitz, , any band member, or the Recreation Department at In addition to the excellent support received from the West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Department, the band also receives support in the form of sponsorships from businesses and individuals. Please patronize these businesses. We thank them for their support. All donations are deductible Our Conduttors Henry Canitz is a product of Wisconsin. He was born in Milwaukee. and attended Milwaukee schools. He has also lived in New Berlin and West Bend. He earned his Bachelor'S Degree from UWM and his Masters Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. He taught music in Milwaukee and West Allis and his students achieved numerous outstanding awards. In 1959 he organized the Milwaukee Pops Youth Band which he directed for 31 years. In 1985 he took over the directorship of the outstanding Suburban Concert Band. This is his 20 1t1 year with the Band, and his 55 1t1 year as a director. He has received many awards. including National Band Associations "Citation for Excellence" Award. In addition to this, he managed, with the help of his wife, Arlene. to raise seven outstanding children. Robert Rothwell is a graduate ofuw-m and he earned his Master Degree from Northwestern University. He taught for 29 years at Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Mr.Rothwell plays professionally on both the piano and trombone. A private student of Mr. Canitz, he played in the "Milwaukee Pops Youth Band". Now retired. he plays in many bands and orchestras. including the Suburban Concert Band. He has twice been nominated the outstanding Teacher A ward.
