Private School Experience: Oak Grove Elementary School Vocal Music K-5,.5 position Curriculum/Course Development Interstate Passport Faculty Team Member Funded through the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Lumina Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education, The Interstate Passport was developed to create a new transfer system for general education courses. This iniative is managed through the Western Interstae Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) and I was one of the authors from seven states that created the Learner Outcomes and Proficiency Criteria for the knowledge area of Creative Expression in meetings held in Boulder, Colorado. Music Entrepreneurship Course Researcher and Developer In collaboration with Dr. Cecilia Kang, I researched current undergraduate music majors and practicing teachers to determine new music content areas which should be delivered through course work and added to our curriculum guides. After receiving our research information and analyzing music education trends, we designed the new required course, Music Entrepreneurship. North Dakota State University Music Education Symposium Co-Creator and Administrator Beginning in 2009, in collaboration with Dr. Warren Olfert, I co-created and administered a weeklong, immersive summer music education symposium. This symposium serves as one of our required courses for students pursuing the Master of Music in Music Education. During this symposium and course, Master of Music in Music Education candidates discuss and learn about contemporary issues in music education. Our biennial event contains lectures, research and presentations by nationally-known luminaries, such as Clifford Madsen, Peter Boonshaft, Robert Duke, Alice-Ann Darrow; North Dakota State University Faculty and music educators throughout the region. North Dakota State University Online Courses Developer I researched and created two online courses, The History of Choral Literature and Advanced Elementary Methods for North Dakota State University s Master of Music in Music Education curriculum. I assisted in the creation of two other courses, Graduate Theory Survey and and Jazz Methods and Pedagogy in Music Education.
3 North Dakota State University Student Teaching Capstone Reviewer I was a member of the student teacher capstone requirements review committee. The capstone serves as the assessment mechanism for our student teachers while they are student teaching and is required for them to achieve licensure in music education. This capstone aligns with the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium. Minnesota State University Masters Degree My master s thesis, Research of a Seventh Grade Choir Curriculum was completed at Moorhead State University. It used a pre-test and post-test to determine the effectiveness of a traditional and a Kodály-based curriculum in a student s ability to read a two-part choral score. Bemidji Public School Elementary Music Curriculum Developer Moorhead Public School Middle Level Choral Curriculum Developer Research 2017 Selected Presenter: Solfége to Start Seamlessly, Promote Precision and Unite Minnesota American Choral Directors Association State Convention 2017 Author: Vitamins for Women s Choirs published in North Central American Choral Directors Association regional publication Melisma 2017 Composer: Rejoice in Sound, which incorporates a canon by Giovanni Battista Martini ( ) was published by Graphite Music, Plymouth, Minnesota. I also developed a sequential teaching guide for the composition, Prep-Steps. 4 2013 Guest Editor Music of the Americas, Choral Journal, National ACDA Publication In collaboration with Dr. Michael Weber, I was named a guest editor for the March 2014 issue of the American Choral Directors Association s, Choral Journal. The March issue was devoted to publications stemming from the May 2013 Choral Music of the Americas Symposium, which was hosted by the Challey School of Music at North Dakota State University and American Choral Directors Association. The articles, edited by Dr. Weber and me, explored the history and techniques of choral music in Cuba, Venezuela, Canada and Mexico, and were written by José Rivera, Maria Guinand, Hilary Apfelstadt and Jorge Cózatl Monograph Co-Editor Music of the Americas, National ACDA Publication Dr. Michael Weber and I edited this 200-page document, featuring 16 articles from various authors who were selected to present at the North Dakota State University Choral Symposium: Choral Music of the Americas Invited Presenter: Promoting Purposeful Productivity in the Rehearsal, North Dakota American Choral Directors Association, Grand Forks, North Dakota 2012 Invited Presenter: Making Musical Connections: Achieving Advocacy North Dakota Educators Association State Conference.
