IL TROVATORE (Verdi) (3hrs7min) Soprano Anna Netrebko s dramatic and vocal skills are on full display in her next new role at the Met Leonora, the Verdi heroine who sacrifices her own life for the love of the gypsy troubadour. Tenor Yonghoon Lee sings the ill-fated Manrico, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky is his rival, and mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is the mysterious gypsy with the troubled past. Marco Armiliato conducts Sir David McVicar s Goya-inspired production. Director Bartlett Sher probes the Moor s dramatic downfall with an outstanding cast: tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko plays the doomed Otello; new soprano star Sonya Yoncheva sings Desdemona, Otello s innocent wife and victim; and baritone Željko Lučić plays the evil Iago, who masterminds Otello s demise. Dynamic maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts. Today s leading Wagnerian tenor Johan Botha takes on the daunting title role, opposite soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek as Elisabeth, adding another Wagner heroine to her Met repertoire after her acclaimed Sieglinde in the Ring a few seasons ago. On the heels of his recent triumph in Parsifal, baritone Peter Mattei sings Wolfram, and mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung is the love goddess, Venus. Musically, the masterful score is in the sure hands of Met Music Director James Levine. Soprano Marlis Petersen has excited audiences around the world with her portrayal of the tour-de-force title role, a wild journey of love, obsession, and death. Susan Graham joins a winning cast, including Daniel Brenna and Johan Reuter. Showtimes: Saturday November 21 9:30 AM THE MAGIC FLUTE (Mozart) (1hrs52min) Special 10 th Anniversary Presentation all seats $10.00 Celebrated director Julie Taymor, who brought The Lion King to Broadway, casts her spell on Mozart s The Magic Flute. Dancing bears, flying birds, even a giant serpent all are brought vividly to life through Taymor s ingenious use of puppetry. 2 LES PECHEURS DE PERLES (Bizet) (2hrs54min) new production Bizet s gorgeous opera of lust and longing set in the Far East returns to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years. Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Her suitors are tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing the lilting duet Au fond du temple saint, which opera fans know and adore. Director Penny Woolcock explores the timeless themes of pure love, betrayal, and vengeance in a production that vividly creates an undersea world on the stage of the Met. Conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings his romantic flair to the lush score from the composer of Carmen. TURANDOT (Puccini) (3hrs35min) Showtimes: Saturday January 16 9:55 AM Nina Stemme, one of opera s greatest dramatic sopranos, takes on the title role of the proud princess of legendary China. Tenor Marco Berti is Calàf, the brave prince who sings Nessun dorma and wins her hand. Franco Zeffirelli s golden production is conducted by Paolo Carignani. Showtimes: Saturday January 30 9:55 AM MANON LESCAUT (PUCCINI) (3hrs33min) new production The Met stage ignites when soprano Kristine Opolais and tenor Jonas Kaufmann join forces in Puccini s obsessive love story. Opolais sings the title role of the country girl who transforms herself into a Parisian temptress, while Kaufmann is the dashing student who desperately woos her. Director Richard Eyre places the action in occupied France in a film noir setting. Desperate passion is the phrase Puccini himself used to describe the opera that confirmed his position as the preeminent Italian opera composer of his day. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leads the stirring score. Showtimes: Saturday March 5 9:55 AM MADAMA BUTTERFLY (PUCCINI) (3hrs38min) Anthony Minghella s breathtaking production has thrilled audiences ever since its premiere in One of the world s foremost Butterflys, soprano Kristine Opolais, takes on the title role, and Roberto Alagna sings Pinkerton, the naval officer who breaks Butterfly s heart. Karel Mark Chichon conducts. Showtimes: Saturday April 2 9:55 AM ROBERTO DEVEREUX (Donizetti) (3hrs46min) premiere Soprano Sondra Radvanovsky takes on the extraordinary challenge of singing all three of Donizetti s Tudor queens in the course of a single season, a rare feat made famous by Beverly Sills. In this climactic opera of the trilogy, directed by Sir David McVicar, she plays Queen Elizabeth I, forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux. Tenor Matthew Polenzani is Devereux, and mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien complete the principal quartet in the bel canto masterpiece, conducted by Donizetti specialist Maurizio Benini. Showtimes: Saturday April 16 9:55 AM ELEKTRA (Strauss) (2hrs10min) new production The genius director Patrice Chéreau (From the House of the Dead) didn t live to see his great Elektra production, previously presented in Aix and Milan, make it to the stage of the Met. But his overpowering vision lives on with soprano Nina Stemme unmatched today in the heroic female roles of Strauss and Wagner who portrays Elektra s primal quest for vengeance. Legendary mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier is chilling as Elektra s fearsome mother, Klytämnestra. Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka and bass Eric Owens are Elektra s troubled siblings. ROMEO AND JULIET Royal Ballet (3hrs02min) Showtimes: Sunday September 27 9:55AM Kenneth MacMillan s famous version of Shakespeare s romantic tragedy set to Prokofiev s magnificent score returns to open the 2015/16 Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season. This Romeo and Juliet is rich in the swaggering colour of Verona street life and in sword fights and celebrations, but MacMillan s focus is always on the complex emotions of the young lovers especially on Juliet as she journeys through the delirious happiness of first love to a shocked, adult perception of her fate. Juliet is one of the most coveted of all ballerina roles, and as MacMillan s ballet enters its 50th year it resonates as deeply with audiences today as when it was first seen half a century ago. GISELLE Bolshoi Ballet (2hrs20min) Showtimes: Sunday October 11 11:00AM The young peasant girl Giselle dies when she learns that the man she loves, Albrecht, has betrayed her. Against her own will, she joins the wilis, vengeful spirits who now turn against Albrecht and condemn him to dance until he dies of exhaustion. This treasure of romantic ballet is one of the oldest and greatest in classical repertoire, touching upon the great romantic themes: a doomed love affair ending in tragedy, a dive into fantasy and ultimate redemption through the power of love. The Bolshoi is renowned for its intimate and emotionally intense interpretation of this beloved drama. LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS Bolshoi Ballet (3hrs5min) Showtimes: Sunday December 6 9:55am A young bourgeois, Armand Duval, falls madly in love with Marguerite Gautier, a gorgeous courtesan celebrated by the Parisian high society. Despite her infidelity, Armand will do all he can to win the beautiful woman s heart and convince her to leave her indulgent life. The Bolshoi breathes new life into John Neumeier's tragic masterpiece, inspired by Alexandre Dumas' novel and accompanied by Chopin's exquisite score. This production assumes a new emotional and dramatic texture that only the Bolshoi s dancers can deliver. Neumeier s character-rich ballet has found a company that is equal to its challenges Financial Times. THE NUTCRACKER Royal Ballet (2hrs10min) Showtimes: Sunday December 20 11:00AM At the palace, the royal family and their guests are gathered for Prince Siegfried s birthday celebrations. In a majestic ceremony, Siegfried is made a knight; young girls try to attract his attention, as he must choose a wife during the ball. Overcome by the sudden awareness of his future responsibilities, he escapes into the night and meets a strange flock of swans by a magical lake. White swan by day, human by night, the beautiful Odette awaits an oath of true love to break the curse. The great legend of the enigmatic swan/woman is one of the most romantic classical ballets, appropriately set in the era of courtly romance and characterized by elegance, style and harmony. 4 RHAPSODY / THE TWO PIGEONS Royal Ballet (runtime TBD) Showtimes: Sunday January 31 start time TBD This delightful Frederick Ashton double bill opens with his setting of Rachmaninoff s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, using the music s dark turbulence and brilliance to inspire some of his most thrilling choreography. Witty, impassioned and sublime this ballet was the pinnacle of Ashton s romantic style. The second half of the programme features Ashton s delicate, deceptively comic The Two Pigeons - a work rarely performed and a real treat for ballet fans everywhere. DON QUIXOTE Bolshoi Ballet (3hrs10min) Showtimes: Sunday April 10 9:55AM Cervantes eccentric hero Don Quixote leaves on journey full of adventures with his loyal squire Sancho Panza in search of his perfect woman. On the way he meets Kitri, the dazzling daughter of an innkeeper who he thinks might be his ideal love. The Bolshoi's panache and excellence are combined in Fadeyechev s critically acclaimed staging of this exalting performance with Leon Minkus famous score. Featuring brand new sets and costumes to accompany this colorful and technically challenging production, DON QUIXOTE is quintessential Bolshoi, abounding with life and not to be missed! FRANKENSTEIN Royal Ballet Ballet (runtime TBD) Showtimes: Sunday May 22 start time TBD Royal Ballet Artist in Residence Liam Scarlett has chosen Mary Shelley s gothic classic Frankenstein as the basis for his first full-length narrative ballet for the Covent Garden Main Stage. A story of betrayal, curiosity, life, death and, above all, love, it inspires Scarlett to explore the very depths of human nature and our need to find acceptance and a place in the world. For this exciting new ballet Scarlett returns to the music of Lowell Liebermann, from whom he has commissioned a brand new score.

But beyond the luxury hotels surrounding Mumbai airport lies a makeshift slum, full of people with plans of their own. Zehrunisa and her son Abdul aim to recycle enough rubbish to fund a proper house. Sunil, twelve and stunted, wants to eat until he s as tall as Kalu the thief. Asha seeks to steal government anti-poverty funds to turn herself into a first-class person, while her daughter Manju intends to become the slum s first female graduate. But their schemes are fragile; global recession threatens the garbage trade, and another slum-dweller is about to make an accusation that will destroy herself and shatter the neighbourhood. 6 JANE EYRE Thursday December 10 7:00 PM Almost 170 years on, Charlotte Brontë s story of the trailblazing Jane is as inspiring as ever. This bold and dynamic production uncovers one woman s fight for freedom and fulfillment on her own terms. From her beginnings as a destitute orphan, Jane Eyre s spirited heroine faces life s obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart. This acclaimed re-imagining of Brontë's masterpiece was first staged by Bristol Old Vic last year, when the story was performed over two evenings. Director Sally Cookson now brings her celebrated production to the National, presented as a single, exhilarating performance. AS YOU LIKE IT Thursday February 25 7:00 PM Shakespeare s glorious comedy of love and change comes to the National Theatre for the first time in over 30 years, with Rosalie Craig (London Road, Macbeth at MIF) as Rosalind. With her father the Duke banished and in exile, Rosalind and her cousin Celia leave their lives in the court behind them and journey into the Forest of Arden.
