2 Intellectual Property (IP) Characteristics of intellectual property The owner of IP is the author, or creator Because of its intangible nature, ownership cannot be established over an idea Thus, property rights are awarded to the physical expression of the author s idea (such as a book) -> despite being called property, IPs are quite different from tangible properties Lesson 5 Economics of ecommerce

3 IPs are no Property Important to recognize: economically speaking, IPs are no properties as e.g. tangible commodities despite the misleading term, and IP laws do not protect the said property, but the interests of the owners derived from the use of that property although this interest may very well be termed as property in the legal sense. 6 Amateur Musicians/Artists are not working for a record label, employed by a recording studio or play regularly at concerts (Brandfonbrener, 1994) are defined from two scientific viewpoints: Macro-sociological and/or Psycho-sociological (Hoare et al. 2014)

7 Home Studio is a computer based studio set up at the musician s home for production purposes without the need for an extensive professional environment (Homer, 2009) Production is made digitally in-the-box à + less analog processing hardware + reduced production times + less costs + no need for physical space inside studio Online services à post production purposes
