The ultimate tribute to the late David Bowie. ~ NOISE 11 MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA DAVID BOWIE NOTHING HAS CHANGED If David Bowie had not existed, it would have been impossible to invent him. Now that he s undergone his final transformation, Australia s finest pay tribute to the Starman. Few musicians can claim to have refashioned modern music so comprehensively as the man born David Jones. From the glam of Ziggy Stardust to the desolate Berlin years right up until his intensely personal final album Blackstar, Bowie always reflected contemporary culture back on itself while remaining truly alien. Now artists under the influence of the great man gather to perform his music in their own unique styles, alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under conductor Vanessa Scammell and Creative Director Amanda Pelman. Duration 2 hrs 30 mins, with interval

BIOGRAPHIES, an award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, producer, playwright, stage performer, film actor and visual artist, has been very busy since his last studio album release back in Since then, he has performed in critically acclaimed productions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Sydney Dance Company s Berlin, while also writing and starring in the international fringe theatre hit Smoke & Mirrors, the Sydney Opera House show Young, Hard and Solo, and most recently the controversial and acclaimed B-Girl, also at the Sydney Opera House. Along the way, he has picked up Helpmann and Green Room awards for outstanding performances and productions. On the silver screen he has played the orchestra leader in Baz Luhrmann s The Great Gatsby and, more recently, was part of the supporting cast in George Miller s Mad Max: Fury Road. He has written, recorded and produced two albums in the last 12 months: a self-titled opus written while on set in the desert of Namibia shooting Fury Road, and Wolf Number Nine. Whatever role he finds himself in, is finally living the role he was born to play: that of an exceedingly capable individual and powerful performer no masks, no disguises, no gimmicks, just himself. Hailing from a mining town in WA, Tim has taken his talents to the world in a career that encompasses music, film, television and stage. As the frontman of You Am I, he has released ten studio albums, three of which have debuted at #1: Hi Fi Way (1995), Hourly, Daily (1996) and #4 Record (1998) with the records receiving ARIA Awards and platinum and gold status. The band has been released internationally and headlined shows across North America and Europe. He has also released critically acclaimed solo albums, and a number of collaborations with musicians such as Tex Perkins, The Temperance Union and The Bamboos. In 2012 he released his fifth and most recent solo album, the acclaimed Rogers Sings Rogerstein. One of his most notable film roles was in the 2013 musical-thriller film The Boy Castaways with fellow Australian musician Megan Washington, and he appeared alongside Mia Wasikowska in the film Tracks. He has written for The Age and The Monthly, and has encapsulated the passion of every AFL football fan as the face of the AFL final series on TV screens nationwide. He has stood in front of 50,000 screaming rock fans, but is just as at home playing an acoustic guitar and joking with the locals in a country town venue.

DEBORAH CONWAY Deborah has been a significant and eloquent contributor to Australian music for more than 30 years. Her first band Do-Ré-Mi topped the charts; her first solo album achieved platinum sales while simultaneously becoming the most shoplifted album of that year. She continues to release albums that attract acclaim from reviewers and appreciative audiences alike, most recently Stories of Ghosts, described as ten dialogues around themes from the Torah, from an atheist Jewish perspective. Deborah has pursued a career of extracurricular activities alongside the core business of writing, recording and performing her songs. These have included producing Broad, a national series of touring showcase concerts featuring female singer-songwriters ( ); and roles as Artistic Director for the Queensland Music Festival ( ) and Festival Director for Shir Madness Melbourne Jewish Music Festival. In 2015 the 5/4 anthem Alive and Brilliant written with long-time collaborator Willy Zygier was inducted into the National Film and Sound Archive. Deborah and Willy have just released Everybody's Begging, a follow-up to 2013's Stories of Ghosts. STEVE KILBEY Steve was born in England in 1954 and as lead singer-songwriter and bass guitarist formed the psychedelic rock band The Church in Sydney in The Church has released 24 studio albums and 34 singles, including Under the Milky Way (from Starfish, 1988), which brought the band international fame and was named Single of the Year in the 1989 ARIA Awards. The band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2010, and the following year Steve was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has written three books, including Something Quite Peculiar, and released many musical collaborations. He now lives in Coogee. ADALITA Adalita, lead singer of seminal band Magic Dirt, has been one of Australia s most respected and influential artists for nearly two decades. You may well have grown up with her music, watching it evolve from the free-form distortion-drenched darkness of the early 90s to the confident, poised rock n roll of the album Girl. Or you might be a new fan, just beginning to explore her solo work released under her own name, dynamic and introspective. The release of Adalita s eponymous debut album in 2011 marked the advent of a remarkable new phase in an already illustrious career. The stark and heartfelt album earned her an AMP Award nomination and an Australian Independent Record (AIR) Award for Best Independent Album. In 2013 her second album, All Day Venus, blitzed the music scene, landing her an Age Music Victoria award just a month after its release. In 2014, Adalita delivered a stirring keynote speech at the annual AIR Awards and received an ARIA Award Nomination for Best Female Artist.

AMANDA PELMAN Creative Director As Cameron Macintosh described her, a rock n roll chick from way back, Amanda has signed artists (Kylie Minogue), managed artists into successful international careers (Indecent Obsession) and championed the careers of many others through her A&R roles in Australia and the UK. Recalled as the nasty judge on Seven Network s It Takes Two series, her on-camera appearances didn t start there but in the early 80s as a dancer on Countdown prompted by her friend Molly Meldrum. Amanda is the proud recipient of two ARIA Awards: for production on the live event Sound Relief (Best Music DVD 2010), and as Executive Producer of Tangier, the posthumous release for Billy Thorpe (Best Adult Contemporary Album 2011). Together with Michael Chugg and Billy Thorpe, she co-produced the enormously successful Long Way to the Top live concert series ( ). Her roles in casting and as a creative director have covered productions such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert, RENT, Oliver, Jolson, Fame, Fiddler, Always Patsy Cline (starring Deborah Conway) and Morning of the Earth (which features music by her partner Brian Cadd). VANESSA SCAMMELL Conductor Vanessa graduated from Melbourne Conversation and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a pianist and conductor; she was the recipient the Brian Stacey Award for young conductors and The Robert and Elizabeth Albert Conducting Fellowship for The Australian Ballet. She has acted as conductor, Music Director and Musical Supervisor for Australasia s leading performing organizations in concert, opera, ballet and musical theatre. Vanessa has acted as conductor and musical director for some of music s most celebrated artists Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Kate Ceberano, Lea Salonga, Idina Menzel, Barry Humphries, Rhonda Burchmore, Lisa McCune, The Wiggles and many others. She has conducted the Sydney, Melbourne, West Australian, Adelaide, Christchurch and Queensland Symphony orchestras as well as a wide range of international ensembles. ASHLEY NAYLOR Guitar & Musical Director Guitarist, singer and songwriter Ashley has fronted the Melbourne rock group, Even, since 1994, releasing six albums as well as touring throughout Australia, Japan the United States and Europe. He has also released two solo albums, Four Track Mind and High Horse, often showcasing material from these albums at rare, intimate acoustic shows. He also shares the stage and recording studio with Paul Kelly, The Grapes and The Ronson Hangup, and currently plays in the Rockwiz Orkestra. He was ranked among the top 50 Australian guitarists in Australian Guitar magazine, and in 2010 he received an ARIA award for his role as Musical Director in Triple J s tribute to Paul Kelly, Before Too Long. Ashley is currently finishing the new Even album, due for release this year. DAVEY LANE Guitar Davey is a Melbourne-based solo artist, songwriter and guitarist. He joined You Am I at the age of 18 in 1999 and since then has made six albums with the band, most recently Porridge and Hotsauce (2015) his singing and song-writing debut with the group. He has also worked with Crowded House, Jimmy Barnes and Jim Keays, as well as fronting his own group The Pictures ( ). Since then he has produced his own music as a solo artist, with a slew of releases including the critically acclaimed debut album Atonally Young (2014). CLAYTON DOLEY Keyboard Clayton is best known for his Hammond organ virtuosity, and his own bands have been invited to play at leading festivals worldwide, including Montreal International Jazz, Byron Bay Blues, Toronto Jazz and Tremblant International Blues. An experienced and versatile session musician, he has played on, produced or written songs for hundreds of Australian albums. He has toured the world with the likes of Harry Manx, Joe

Bonamassa, Walter Wolfman Washington, Steve Cropper and Donald Duck Dunn (Booker T. & the M.G. s, The Blues Brothers), David Garibaldi (Tower Of Power), Jimmy Barnes and The Divinyls. As a television musical director he has worked on Good News Week and The Sideshow as well as special events. JAMES HASELWOOD Bass Bass player James arrived in the spotlight in 2005 as a member of the Dissociatives (featuring Daniel Johns of Silverchair, Paul Mac and the Presets). Since then he has worked with a wide spectrum of artists in Australia and internationally, including Natalie Imbruglia, Mia Dyson, Dan Akroyd, Jon Cleary (New Orleans), Alex Lloyd and Tina Harrod. One highlight has been Cannot Buy My Soul: Kev Carmody a DVD recorded live at Sydney s State Theatre and featuring Paul Kelly and other leading artists. After working in New York City, James returned to Australia to play bass on the 2014 series of The Voice Australia. Currently he is recording and touring with Kasey Chambers. LAURENCE PIKE Drums Sydney-based Laurence is a drummer, composer and producer. His group PVT (formerly Pivot) was the first Australian act signed to the UK label Warp Records; he is also a member of Jack Ladder and The Dreamlanders, and works with Sarah Blasko, jazz pianist Mike Nock and UK electronic musician Luke Abbott. He has appeared on over 35 albums and performed worldwide with artists as diverse as Bill Callahan, Speech Debelle and Prefuse 73, and appeared at Glastonbury, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Pukklepop, Lowlands, Montreal Jazz Festival, South By Southwest, CMJ New York, Vivid, Splendour in the Grass and Sydney Festival. He has also composed for television and presented for Triple J and Double J. JADE MCRAE Vocals Jade's formative years were spent at the Sydney Conservatorium, during which period she collaborated with early incarnations of The Presets, Pnau and The Sleepy Jackson. She was mentored by Sydney funk and soul luminaries Jackie Orszaczky and Tina Harrod, which proved pivotal in developing her flair for arrangement and composition. Subsequently she released two albums, earning three ARIA Award nominations as well as numerous APRA Awards. As a vocalist, she has shared the stage with musical icons such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Renée Geyer, Cold Chisel and Neil Finn, and was the voice of Cynthia in The Sapphires. Her current original music project, Dune, explores pop music with a focus on analogue synths. ROBYN LOAU Vocals Robyn has released two solo albums to critical acclaim, drawing comparisons to Neneh Cherry, Kylie Minogue and Kate Bush. Upon the release of her debut album Malaria and hit single Sick With Love, Rolling Stone magazine proclaimed her a serious diva in waiting. With over half a million sales, her music has made its way into homes across Australia, Asia and Europe through her solo releases and as the lead singer of pop group Girlfriend. She is the face and voice of world music project Siva Pacifica, and has coordinated and arranged the vocals of the indigenous South Pacific tribes featured on the project.
