For those in attendance, thank you for making it a most memorable evening. If you could not make it, please be proud that you are a member of such a fine branch! We were blessed with the presence of our 1st president and founder, Dr. M lou Dietzer. Her message to the branch can be found in this newsletter. Our three Guests of Honor (June Nelson, Madeline Miller, and Eduardo Delgado) spoke beautifully and inspired us to continue our quest for excellence in music education. We received a video from the MTAC State Board wishing us a Happy 40th! This was in addition to their sweet Happy Birthday card. Did you know we had 14 of our past presidents in attendance? It was really fun taking that group picture! Our sister branch (MTAC Irvine Branch) gave us an exquisite flower arrangement and congratulatory balloons which we displayed at the registration desk. The Anniversary Committee headed by Laurie Meinhold did a phenomenal job organizing everything. Please read Laurie s newsletter entry. She eloquently describes the gala evening s events and graciously thanks all those who helped. I simply want to thank the committee consisting of Laurie, Gloria Traulle, Keiko Ikeda, Anne Prestridge, Nilou Sarraf, and Valerie Radlick for all of their detailed work over the past 6 months. No one was more ecstatic than me to see everyone and everything come together in such a magnificent way! I also need to thank Keiko s husband for handling the sound system so professionally. Without him, I would not have had a functioning microphone to use at the podium. At our September branch meeting, Kirill Gliadkovsky gave us an in-depth lecture on Russian piano music in the romantic period and beyond. We received much useful information about Russian composers and their important works. It is always a pleasure to hear him speak and perform at our meetings because we learn so much. Thank you, Kirill! Come to our next branch meeting on Wednesday, October 8th. You can personally thank Laurie Meinhold for chairing our Anniversary Committee since she will be presenting a program on using technology to enhance your teaching. The Yearbooks will once again be available for pick-up. A pdf version can also be found on our mtacocc.org website under Branch Documents. Don t forget to attend one of the CM Information Meetings in the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing you very soon. Take care!!! ~Pam

4 40 th ANNIVERSARY BANQUET RECAP Our 40th Anniversary Gala was a star studded event! 77 guests attended. Everyone looked so elegant, and we had wonderful music provided by Gloria Liu Traulle (cello), Nancy Davis(violin), Diana Chu (piano/vocal), and Kyle Shafiee (pianist-former student of Crystal Oddo and Scott McBride Smith). Anne Prestridge and her husband Bill manned the registration table and got everybody the right meal ticket. Thank you Anne! We were honored to have our branch founder, Dr. M Lou Dietzer and her daughter, Ann Kleinsasser at the banquet. In addition we had special guest speakers June Lusk Nelson( former branch president from , now part of Irvine branch), former MTAC State President, Madeline Miller, and internationally known pianist and professor at CSUF, Eduardo Delgado. The speeches were incredibly inspiring and were appreciated by all. Our former president, Meldene Gruber travelled the farthest to come to the gala. She flew in from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware! I would like to thank all the members of the anniversary gala committee for their incredible work on organizing this event. We began planning for the gala six months ago and each person on the committee made an invaluable contribution. Keiko Ikeda created the e -invitations, RSVP site, and the wonderful slideshow. She was also busy snapping pictures at the event, which all the members will be able to share. Gloria Liu Traulle is not only a wonderful cellist who performed for us with Nancy Davis, she is also so creative she fits more into her day than I can imagine. She created place cards, centerpieces, bookmarks, coasters and our beautiful banner, with help from her son, Orion. Thank you from our entire branch Gloria for your dedication and loving donation of your time and talent. Anne Prestridge, thank you so much for handling the money. I knew it was in good hands and I didn't have to think about it which was a huge blessing. Thank you to Nilou Sarraf who created fun music trivia questions for us and organized wonderful door prizes for members. I was grateful for Valerie Radlick s experience and wisdom at the planning meetings and for her help with finding addresses for former members. It saved me hours at the computer. Her suggestions for our event, (including inviting Eduardo Delgado) were wonderful. Thank you! Pamela Worcester, our beloved president always had pertinent questions, wonderful suggestions, and whenever anything went wrong we knew we could count on her. She pulled the event together beautifully and gracefully. Lastly, thank you to all the guests, and our guests of honor. This is an outstanding branch, full of talented hard working teachers, who have built this organization from the ground up. Your presence made it joyful and exciting event we will all remember. I think it's important to pause in our life journey now and then, recognize how far we've come and thank the people who mean so much to us. Music teachers have been a very important influence in my life, and each of you are making a difference in someone's life by sharing the gift of music that you have been given. Thank you, Laurie Meinhold, chair Thank You! To Pam Worcester and all MTAC-OCC branch members and guests for the great celebration of your 40 th anniversary: the location was elegant, the food delicious and the congenialty was heartwarming. It is amazing that the small group of us who began the branch in has grown into such a large group of music professionals. It warmed my heart to think of all the musical activity that that small group generated. I cannot even imagine how many students have passed through your studios and received the gift of music. It was also heartwarming to see other previous members there. I felt quite honored by all the warm applause when you recognized me in your opening words and feel so happy to have been a part of this strong and successful MTAC branch. Love and best wishes, M'lou Dietzer MTAC OCC Branch Newsletter, October 2014 Page 4
