1 Conversational Solfege June 12-16, 2017 John Feierabend World Folk Dances and Folk Songs June 12-15, 2017 Lillie Feierabend Rhythmic Training and Percussion Ensemble (Drumming) June 26-30, 2017 Jim Solomon

2 Conversational Solfege June 12-16, 2017 Conversational Solfege is a pedagogical method that develops an understanding of music through the use of rhythm and tonal syllables that gradually evolve into reading, writing, improvisation, and composition skills. This is a literature-driven curriculum. Each rhythm or tonal element is explored in patterns, songs, and themes from classical literature. Applications of Conversational Solfege are ideally suited to elementary general music curricula, choral organizations at all levels, Orff, Kodály, Dacroze, Gordon, high school and college sight-singing and ear-training, class piano, Suzuki, and recorder, band, and orchestral instruments. Dr. John M. Feierabend is considered one of the leading authorities on music and movement development in childhood. He is a professor emeritus and former director of music education at the University of Hartford s The Hartt School and is a past president of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. He is the author of more than 70 books, recordings, and DVDs, many of which served as the inspiration for the award winning PBS children s television series Lomax: The Hound of Music. He has been honored as a Lowell Mason Fellow by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), named University Educator of the Year by the Connecticut Music Educators Association, received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Organization of American Kodály Educators and the James Bent Award for outstanding achievement in scholarship and creativity from the University of Hartford, and was the first U.S. recipient of the LEGO Prize, an international award given annually to an individual who has made a distinctive contribution to the betterment of children. Non-credit tuition cost for Conversational Solfege is $625. Tuition including two graduate credits is $800. World Folk Dancing and Folk Songs June 12-15, 2017 Humor, love, and exuberance are universal. Community music making builds a bridge where we are offered a glimpse into another culture and are delighted to find ourselves looking back. History, spirit, and heart are present in a country s musical culture. This knowledge can lead to greater awareness and global understanding. This lively workshop will explore a dozen cultures through folk dance, rounds, passing games, play parties, and clapping games. Join us as we meet wonderful people through the gift of their music. Lillie Feierabend is known for her work with young children and instilling a love of music within them. She has been an early childhood and general music educator for the past 30 years and a conductor for the Connecticut Children s Chorus for 17. She has twice been honored with her district s Teacher of the Year Award and in 2008 also received the Outstanding Elementary Music Educator Award from the Connecticut Music Educators Association. She is a frequent clinician at local, state, and national conferences; is adjunct faculty at the University of Hartford; teaches weeklong workshops; and conducts regional honors choirs. Non-credit tuition cost for World Folk Dancing and Folk Songs is $285. Tuition including one graduate credit is $400.
