Scott THE ACCOMPANISTS WISH TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING POINTS Official requirements set down by the Music Teachers Association of Queensland: Accompanists are entitled to charge fees of up to $70, which covers two practices and the performance. Fees are to be paid at the first practice. Five (5) weeks notice is required and music must be given to the accompanist at this time. While the local accompanists will be considering the above as guide-lines it is assured that the official accompanists will not be providing their services for free. Please do not attend practices with the accompanist if you have not learnt your pieces. It is not the job of the accompanist to teach you how to play your pieces.you may choose you own accompanist. The official accompanist for the 52 nd Mount Isa Eisteddfod is Daniel Johnson. The official accompanist will hold two rehearsal days, Saturday May 12 and Saturday May 19 from 10am to 4pm. These rehearsals are to be booked through the Mount Isa Eisteddfod website. Do not expect the accompanist to play for you if you have not attended rehearsals. Please note: you do not need to book official accompanist rehearsals if you are a private student of, or not using, the official accompanist. Online programmes $5, printed programmes $10) CLOSING DATES 1. Entries close Friday March 23, 2018 at 5pm EST; 2. Late entries close Friday March 30, 2018 at 5pm EST. They will incur a $20 late fee per entry; 3. Changes to entries will not be accepted after Friday April 6, 2018; 4. Please see entry procedure page at the end of this schedule; and 5. 2 GENERAL RULES Please also read rules preceding each discipline 1. Age as at Saturday May 26, 2018, excluding Highland and Irish Dance competitors. 2. No competitor may compete twice in any one item, except where otherwise stated. 3. Competitors in duets and groups must enter the item appropriate to the older competitor. Duet partners may not be changed after the program has gone to press, unless under exceptional or emergency circumstances and requests must be made in writing to the convener of the discipline. Competitors in groups must be bona fide members of the group. 4. A high standard of decorum is expected from all competitors and spectators; unseemly behavior is contrary to the spirit of the event and will result in the disqualification of the competitor concerned. Competitors are reminded that performance requires appropriate dress. 5. If the standard of any performance is deemed to be not of sufficient merit, no award will be given. 6. In Own Choice section a copy of the piece must be provided. The competitor and item number must be clearly marked on the top of the copy. No names to be on the copy. Mark the front of the photocopy with the competitor number, item number, day and session of the performance (i.e. morning, afternoon or evening). 7. Any complaint made by an individual against the organization or adjudication of an event must be made in writing giving the complainant's full name and address and shall be lodged with the committee within a period of thirty minutes following the publication of results, accompanied by a fee of $25.00 (except Irish) which is refundable if protest is upheld. 8. A competitor may not repeat any item with which he or she has won first prize at any previous Mount Isa Eisteddfod (except Highland and Irish). Items may be performed once only by a competitor during the Eisteddfod. 9. The committee reserves the right to: - Alter or amend the program in any way and at any time; - Cancel sections where there are insufficient entries i.e. less than 3 competitors; - Combine/split age groups wherever appropriate; - Re-allocate trophies; and - Take any/all action to facilitate the satisfactory conduct of the eisteddfod. 10. Competitors in the first item of any session must present themselves at least fifteen (15) minutes before the start of that session. Competitors will be deemed as withdrawals if they are not present when called for their section/s. Advise check in marshalls of your set piece or own choice titles. 11. Championships: Selections in championship items must not have been previously performed by that competitor during this Eisteddfod. Competitors in championships must have competed in the solo item for their age group or higher age group and other required items as per discipline rules. 12. Legal requirements prohibit the use of cameras or recording devices at the Mount Isa Eisteddfod. The use of mobile phones, ipad, video cameras, and/or cameras by members of the audience during the competition is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be removed and recorded material will be erased in the presence of a Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association official. 13. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod is conducted under the relevant Queensland Government Workplace Health and Safety regulations and expects all competitors, volunteers, patrons, teachers and visitors to respect these guidelines and will not be held liable for any such person who does not. 14. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association committee will not be responsible for copyright and royalty infringement by individual performers or persons associated with the performance. Nor will the association be held accountable for any copyright infringements relating to the submission of photocopies. 15. To be eligible to enter, competitors must perform from originals i.e. a single piece of sheet music, an album of pieces, vocal score, or any other collection. 16. For adjudication purposes a photocopy of original to be supplied. The competitor agrees that they have accepted the online entry clause and ticked the AMCOS agreement online. In compliance with rules the committee will destroy photocopy after completion of Eisteddfod. 17. No items will be permitted which entail the use of sand, hay, water, smoke, fog, dry ice, cream, food, confetti, drink, powder, electrical appliance, live animals or the lighting of matches, candles or sparklers or naked flames on stage for effect purposes or spilt or spread on stage

3 18. Any approach before or during competition, to an adjudicator by an entrant, parent, teacher or friend of an entrant during the eisteddfod is prohibited. This rule does not apply to the eisteddfod committee. 19. The eisteddfod committee will not be responsible for the engraving of perpetual trophies. 20. If through unforeseen circumstances the adjudicator is unable to perform his/her duties, the eisteddfod committee reserves the right to appoint a substitute. 21. Backstage/Sidestage Rules: - At no time during the Eisteddfod will unauthorized persons be permitted backstage, in the wings or in the dressing rooms. - Dressing rooms will be closed to all, except when necessary for costume changes. - Persons dressing children may remain in the dressing room(s) until item in progress is completed. - Teachers and parents are not permitted to enter the backstage area. - All competitors are required to enter the backstage are via the back door. Access will not be granted via the auditorium. ENTRY PROCEDURES 1. Read the schedule carefully. Closing dates, late fees, entry fees, accompanist requirements and rules are all discussed within the schedule. 2. All entries are to be made online via Stardom. Links to online entries can be found on the Mount Isa Eisteddfod s website or Facebook page. 3. Payment for entries is only accepted online via the payment system on Stardom. A fee of $7.00 per entry (exc. Credit card charges) will be charged for administration and program fee. 4. Once entries have closed and programme completed this will be made available to entrant via Entries which are not completed correctly or fail to process payment will be considered as not entered. 6. Late entries after closing date will be charged a $20.00 late fee per entry. Late entries close Friday March 30. Entries will only be accepted online

4 Highland Dance - Rules & Conditions (please read the general and entry rules) 1. This competition is registered with the FNQRCHDI (Reg. No. TBA) and will be conducted under the rules and conditions as set down by the SOBHD and ABHDI. 2. Dancers must be registered, and registration number must be entered on entry form. They must present their Registration cards on the day. 3. All steps are to be from the Official Text Book of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing. Only S.O.B.H.D. technique is to be used for Sailors Hornpipe and Irish Jig (Scottish Version). 4. Age to be taken as at date of Competition. 5. Competitors must use the official music and swords provided by the committee. 6. If a competitor changes classification after close of entries the committee must be notified as soon as possible. 7. PRE-PREMIER - Eligibility for Pre-Premier section will apply as at date of competition and shall be in accordance with SOBHD registration scheme. 8. Age groups will be determined on receipt of entries. 9. Entries will not be accepted unless on a separate entry form from other dancing sections in this Eisteddfod. 10. Dancers are to compete in one level only. 11 All competitors compete at their own risk and the committee reserves all rights. 12 Any complaint made by an individual against the organization or adjudication of any event must be made in writing giving the complainant s full name and address and shall be lodged with the organizer if possible on the day of the event, certainly not later than 48 hours after the event. Such a complaint is to be accompanied by a fee of $5, which is refundable if protest is upheld. 13. Dancers must fill in if requested by the Organiser. If a competitor fails to fill in unless for a medical reason the Organiser has the right to enforce Rule 1g, Page 42 D-Judges, SOBHD Rules and Regulations, which reads: Provided due prominence is given to the fact in the program or in a brochure by the Organiser, then during the course of a competition the comportment of the competitors may come under the jurisdiction of the judges, not only whilst dancing, but also when entering or leaving the platform and whilst waiting for the dance to start. Any unseemly behaviour on the part of a competitor or any misdemeanour likely to upset the decorum of the proceedings may be penalised by the judges and could lead to disqualification, but a full report of any such misconduct on the part of a competitor must be submitted by the judges to the Organiser. 14. Aggregate will not include Trophy Dances. 15. THE USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES OF ANY KIND TO RECORD COMPETING DANCERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED. 16. Subject to the official protest ruling, the Judge s decision is final. 17. The Scrutineering System for Championships, Titles and Aggregate Awards will be as per the SOBHD Constitution. 18. For presentation of prizes on stage, Dancers must be in Kilt or National Costume. A competitor s number must be worn. 19. Teachers, interested parties or any other unauthorized persons must not communicate with judges during the competition. All enquires are to made at the Official Table. 20. Any rules pertaining to Competitions released from SOBHD or ABHDI from the time of printing this schedule and actual date of the competition will be adhered to. 21. TITLES Dancers may choose not to compete in all dances that make up the title and still be eligible for an overall title prize, however, the full title fee still applies. 22. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to appoint substitute Adjudicators and/or alter the programme at any time. 23. 6 Music - Rules & Conditions (please read the general and entry rules) 1. Age of Competitor will be taken as at Saturday May 26, Entries close on Friday March 23, 2018, at 5pm EST. 3. Duets: Competitors in duets must enter the item appropriate to the older competitor. Duet partners may be changed only in exceptional or emergency circumstances, with at least 24 hours notice in writing to the music convener. 4. Choirs: In choral items where there are insufficient numbers for a junior choir, a combined choir may compete in the senior item. All Choirs to have minimum 15 voices, maximum 60 voices. Small groups are encouraged to enter Folk Group/Vocal Ensemble Items rather than choral items. 5. Accompaniment: CD accompaniment will be allowed for Juvenile Choral Items 303, 304 and 305 ONLY. The Eisteddfod Committee will not be responsible for the quality and volume of the recorded accompaniment. 6. Accompanists: Competitors/Schools requiring the services of an accompanist must contact the accompanist at least five (5) weeks out from eisteddfod date. Competitors may NOT sing to digital accompaniments (i.e. CD, backing tracks), nor will microphones be used to amplify the voice, unless otherwise stated. Vocal pitch is C Bands and Groups: Competitors performing in the instrumental group items please note the following rules: a. Items have time limits, which include set up and clearance of stage, as well as performance time. The Eisteddfod Committee will not be responsible for setting the stage for these groups. Groups would be advised to practice setting up as time limits will be strictly adhered to. b. Groups must provide sufficient music stands for their own use. Chairs will be available backstage. Groups are welcome to co-operate with each other with regards to leaving stands and chairs in place for subsequent groups - that is up to the discretion of each individual band conductor. c. Conductors are required to hand in a photocopy of the full score (NOT individual parts on separate pages) for adjudication purposes. 7 d. Band items are INSTRUMENTAL ONLY. No vocalist is permitted to perform with the bands. 14. Piano: competitors are required to sit and position themselves in readiness for their performance without help (this excludes non-competitive items). 15. Instrumental: Tuning of ALL instruments must be completed prior to the session commencing. Teachers will be permitted backstage prior to the session commencing and have access to the piano. Teachers are not permitted on or backstage stage during the competition. 16. All performances are with acoustic piano accompaniment unless the work chosen was composed specifically without accompaniment. This rule applies to all solo, duet and trio vocal and instrumental items, unless otherwise specified. 17. All competitors must present themselves backstage, via the back door, where they will be seated in competition order to wait for their performance. Competitors will be called two items ahead of their performance. If a competitor is late they forfeit their place in the item. 18. Teachers and parents are not permitted backstage. 19. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Committee reserve the right to amend rules and schedule of the eisteddfod at any time. 12 Speech & Drama - Rules and Conditions (please read the general and entry rules) 1. Own choice scripts: a. Are to be typed or copied on A4 paper. b. The item number and competitor number clearly marked (no names to be on the copy). c. Handed in at the door at least 15 minutes before the commencement of the session or the competitor forfeits the right to perform. d. Own choice scripts must contain the author s name, the title of the work and publication details (if known) to comply with copyright legislation. The committee will destroy copies of own choice scripts after the adjudication. e. Performances must be spoken in English. f. Please be mindful of choice of pieces in all speech and drama sections. Material should be selected with a view to the age of the competitors and with the realisation that there will be children in the audience. Words, gestures, terminology or subject matter that may prove offensive and would not be regarded as acceptable in a family group or polite society, will not be tolerated and competitors may face disqualification. 2. Time limits: a. Competitors exceeding time limits will receive adjudication but will lose marks. b. Timing for performance will commence on entry to the stage. 3. Introductions: a. For drama solos, character performances (monologues & duologues) and group drama items. Introductions should not exceed 50 words, they should be typewritten (double-spaced) and must be attached to own choice material. b. The Chairperson, to assist the audience to establish the scene and the character, will read introductions. 4. Dress: a. Appropriate dress for a stage performance is expected. b. School uniform is acceptable for choral speaking groups and solo performers during the morning and afternoon sessions. c. Character costume should reflect consideration that the audience will include families with young children. 5. Props and Scenery: a. Limited to what can be placed on and removed from the stage within 1 minute. b. During the item, props and scenery are to be manipulated by the competitor/s only. c. Props must be used during the performance. d. Respect must be shown for the stage = no substance is to be spilt or spread on the stage. e. Props must be delivered backstage before the session begins and removed from backstage at the end of the session. f. Performers are responsible for placing and removing their items on stage. Parents or teachers are not allowed to assist. g. Entrants can use their own audio equipment to play sound effects or music. No equipment is available at the venue. 6. Groups: a. Choirs where there are insufficient numbers for a junior choir, a combined choir may compete in the senior section. All choirs to have a minimum of 15 voices and maximum 60 voices. Choir members must be bona-fide scholars of the school entered. b. Duologues, Creative and Scripted casts a pair or group will compete in the age section of its oldest performer. c. Groups should have a group/team name for identification rather than list the name of each performer. 7. Prompting will not be permitted except from the adjudicator, with the exception of group drama. 8. Microphones will not be allowed to amplify the voice. 9. Age: based on the competitor s year level at school. A competitor may participate in more than one group section. 10. Improvisation: Choice of 3 titles from adjudicator. Unprepared presentation with words and actions. Preparation time will equal performance time limit. A warning bell at expiry of time limit, adjudication ceases 15 seconds later

13 11. Creative Drama: Any combination of music, movement, poetry, sound effects, costume, mime, improvisation. Recorded music, makeup and costume permissible. Script is optional. 12. Scripted Drama: Drama extract, short sketch, 10 minute play. Costumes required. 13. Prepared Bible Reading: To be read from Good News Bible on a lectern, provided by the Eisteddfod Committee. The competitor age as of Saturday May 26, 2018 will be deemed to be the age of the competitor for the competition. 2. If required, Proof of Age must be presented upon request. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to withhold any prizes until such ID has been sighted. Registration 1. Entries must be lodged on or before the closing date via online registration at 2. No late entries will be accepted. 3. The programme will be sent via once completed after entries have closed. 4. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to change/combine/split any section if insufficient or excess entries are received. 5. No entry will be accepted until the full entry fee has been received. This is to be completed at the time of entry. 6. No refunds will be given. 7. Music is to be provided via Web Upload to the Sound Technician supplied by the venue (MICC). An will be sent to all entrants with instructions in regards to music submissions once entries are closed. 2. A back up copy of the music on CD (NOT CDRW) must be ready at the event in case required. 3. If the music is faulty during a competitor s performance the sound technician will turn off the music and the competitor will be given the option of repeating their dance at the end of the section (with back up music), without disqualification. Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association holds no responsibility for incorrect music being submitted, so please check your music carefully before submission. 4. All music will be deleted from the database at the end of the day. Adjudication 1. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association reserves the right to substitute an official adjudicator with any qualified person in the event of any unforeseen circumstances. 2. Competitors must not have been taught or have been a pupil of the Adjudicator during the 6 months prior to the competition. 3. All competitors and teachers must accept as final, any decisions made by the Adjudicator and no correspondence will be entered into. 4. The onus is on the competitor to collect any medals, trophies, reports and awards from the foyer. No reports will be held after completion of the Eisteddfod. General Dance Rules Groups: Competitors must not enter in more than one group unless bona fine pupils of more than one dancing school. Competitors may not appear in both the 12 years and under section and 13 years and over section, for duos or groups. Groups are to comprise of not less than four (4) and not more than thirty (30) competitors. All competitors are to use the dressing rooms back stage. No changing is permitted in the auditorium or foyer. Competitors are to be backstage two items prior to their performance. All competitors enter at their own risk. Backstage Rules: 1. At no time during the Eisteddfod will unauthorized persons be permitted backstage, in the wings or in the dressing rooms. 2. Persons dressing children may remain in the dressing room(s) until item in progress is completed. 3. Any teacher or parent found coaching in the wings will be removed. 4. Only one person per competitor will be permitted backstage and in the dressing rooms

16 All props must be such that they can be placed on stage by one person only, with a time limit of one minute. During item, props are to be manipulated by competitor only. This condition may be relaxed in the case of groups, subject to committee approval. Props are permitted in Tiny Tots, Novelty Dance, Demi-Character and Modern solos and duos. Curtains may only be used for the following sections: 1. Tiny Tots 2. Demi-Character Solos 3. Novelty Dance Solos 4. Dance Duos 5. Groups 6. Championship: Demi-Character Solo Definition of Tap Styles: Novelty Tap use of props permitted. Straight Tap is a routine, which is not interrupted with props. Modern Solo shall mean any style including Jazz, Disco, Funk, Hip Hop (not slow modern). Aggregates are calculated over four categories including impromptu. This will be determined by committee upon receipt of entry. On the day of competition: 1. Competitors must be registered and be backstage at least two sections prior to the start of their section 2. Competitors must be ready backstage at the beginning of their section. Once checked in, competitors are not to leave the backstage holding area. 3. Competitors must be ready to take their place on stage at the given time and must compete in order of which their name appears in the program. 4. If the competitor is not present when called upon, they will face disqualification. Late competitors will be allowed to perform at the end of the section for a report only. The use of mobile phones, ipad, video cameras, and/or cameras by members of the audience during the competition is strictly prohibited. Offenders will be removed and recorded material will be erased in the presence of a Mount Isa Eisteddfod Association official. Protests are to be made in writing within 30 minutes of adjudication. A deposit of $25 must accompany any protests, which will be forfeited if deemed unsubstantial. No light candles, naked flames, fresh fruit/flowers, powder, sand, water, glitter, straw, glass, aerosols or any dangerous props are to be used onstage.
