Young Einstein Sound Track is available on A & M Records and Mushroom Records & Tapes (Australia & N.Z.) - logo (The Mushroom credit is on the VHS edition but not the US DVD) Title added for VHS release after roller has finished and faded to black: '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards Published by ABKCO Music, Inc. The soundtrack was released on LP and CD.

On some editions of the LP - the A & M release - Yahoo Serious wrote this note (signed with all my laugh and x kisses): The music I chose for my first movie pays homage to the epic film score traditions, the symphonic classics, the musical anarchy of cartoon music and 35 years of rock and roll history. In Young Einstein we created or redesigned music and songs in order to weld story and picture without being obtrusive or detracting from the comedy. Narrative and dialogue in scenes are often replaced with song lyrics or musical parody, a 100 piece symphony orchestra evolves from the Hendrix Style rock version of Waltzing Matilda, while Beethoven s 5th fuses with Einstein s theory of Roll and Rock. In producing this soundtrack, I featured the diversified musical styles from the film, including the songs of Young Einstein s eight Australian bands together with dialogue from key scenes. On behalf of all the composers (dead or alive), the bands, and all the musicians, hope you enjoy it.

Kathryn Whitfield reviewed the soundtrack release for The Canberra Times on 19th January 1989:

Just as Australian films are coming of age, so is Australian music. Young Einstein is set to hit the overseas market and the music contained on the film soundtrack is also of an international standard. And just like the movie, the music is home-grown. Mental As Anything belt out the Chuck Berry classic Rock and Roll Music with more oomph than the Beatles did. The Saints make a contribution with a cover of the Easybeats' The Music Goes Round My Head (which they have also cut as a single). Chris Bailey, lead vocalist for The Saints, is becoming more coherent in recent years and one can actually understand all the words! Old standards such as Big Pig's Hungry Town, Icehouse's Great Southern Land and The Models' I Hear Motion grace the soundtrack, intermingled with ditties from relative newcomers such as The Stems and the (now defunct) Lime Spiders. Star, co-producer, writer and director of Young Einstein, Yahoo Serious, makes a vocal contribution to the soundtrack - making use of the music of Beethoven and Handel, and from Australian standards like the Wild Colonial Boy and Waltzing Matilda, which become back ground music for Yahoo's words of wisdom. It is great that the soundtrack does not contain one American or English track, proving that Australia has an enormous store of talent. The soundtrack has used the cream of the Australian music industry and is a good compilation, a good package, and an excellent representation of what Australia has

to offer. Buy it or else. I'm serious. It's all relative. The assembly of the music artists also featured as a TV Week poster (see this site s photo gallery for a larger version). When it came to the re-worked soundtrack, the contribution by composers William Motzing and Martin Armiger - who had won a 1986 AFI award for their original work on the film - receded in significance, with additional music purchased, most notably the Mental as Anything contribution. Armiger was interviewed in the January 1987 issue of Cinema Papers, by Anna Grieve, and his contribution to the original soundtrack was discussed: The rather unlikely combination of Martin Armiger and William Motzing won the 1986 AFI award for best music score for a film that is itself a bizarre combination of elements, telling the story of a Tasmanian-born Einstein, played by the film s director Yahoo Serious, who discovers rock n roll in It interweaves a semiorchestral, semi-rock soundtrack with Armiger contributing the rock score. It was weird doing an out-and-out comedy, recalls Armiger. Yahoo s real thing is to go for the cliche. If you cut to France, you hear the Marseillaise, if you see Einstein and you want the audience to think he s a good guy and he s form Tasmania, then you play Waltzing Matilda. He grimaces. I was saying Waltzing Matilda, oh no, there s no way I want to do it. But Yahoo kept on hammering and hammering at me, so finally I sat down and worked out an arrangement of Waltzing Matilda that I was kind of happy with. Armiger starts laughing, and he loved it, loved it to death - and it works. It was like all these cliches work when you grit your

teeth and do it. It s not trying to discover something new, I suppose. It s making reference to things that make people feel warm and happy. He was, completely surprised to win the AFI award, he says. We felt we d achieved something by the time we d finished but it was under such pressure that you don t really know whether anyone else would think anything of it at all. Th experience of Young Einstein - We ve got three weeks to the mix we don t have any money but can you do something? - is certainly not unique for Armiger... The interview ended with Armiger working on a Bob Ellis scripted ABC telemovie Perhaps Love, and news that Young Einstein had found its way back into the cutting room Composer Martin Armiger: Composer Martin Armiger had done one short forty minute film, Drac, in 1972, before doing Pure Shit in His next notable composition for the screen was the score for the 20 by half hour ABC TV series, Sweet and Sour, in 1984, and thereafter he composed music for TV miniseries (Cyclone Tracy, 1986, Come in Spinner 1990), documentaries (Cane Toads: An Unnatural History, 1988) and feature films (Young Einstein, 1988). The prolific Armiger has many other scores to his credit, as well as an extensive career in pop music as a record producer and also as a performer, most notably in the band The Sports. He has also composed for the stage, and in 1998 won the AFI Award for Best Music for a feature film for Thank God He Met Lizzie. He became the head of Screen Music at the AFTRS, which at one time carried his staff details (link no longer working) and which provided this short career summary: Award winning film composer Martin Armiger has been writing for the screen for more than thirty years. Early works still attracting interest include Bert Delings notorious 1975 feature about heroin users, (Pure Shit, re-released in 2009 by Beyond Films,) and Jan Chapman's series about rock musicians (Sweet and Sour, ABC 1984) which will have its soundtrack re-released this year. Other projects include Clubland, Thank God He Met Lizzie, Young Einstein, Sweetie, The Secret Life of Us, Marking Time, Come In Spinner and Police Rescue. His last film was Mark Lewis' 3D documentary feature Cane Toads: The Conquest, (to be released in 2010) and he composed the current on air music for ABC TV News. He is Head of Screen Music at AFTRS. Armiger had his own website, no longer active as of May 2016, and a detailed wiki here. Below: Martin Armiger

In short order, he composed the score for the cult film The Return of Captain Invincible, the admittedly woeful comedy Stanley - Every Home Should Have One, the under-appreciated story of Berlei bras in Australia, Undercover, John Duigan's One Night Stand, Silver City, and The Coca-Cola Kid, though in the latter case he shared duties with Tim Finn, who did the end titles song and a few other bits, including a Coca-Cola advertising ditty seen in the body of the film. William Motzing's site, Spare Parts Productions, active as of May 2016, provided this short CV: William Motzing (BMus, MMus) was born in the USA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and continued his studies earning a Masters Degree from Manhattan School of Music. He went on to study conducting with Ernest Matteo, Nicholas Flagello, Ionel Perlea and Olga von Geczy; composition with Ludmila Ulehla and John Mayer at Birmingham

Conservatoire(UK) and arranging with Rayburn Wright. During his career as a professional trombonist Bill performed with Kai Winding Septet, Jon Eardley Quintet, Gerry Mulligan Big Band,Bill Russo Big Band, Sal Salvador Big Band, Eastman-Rochester Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony. In the classical arena Bill has conducted major symphony orchestras including the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestras. In Europe he has conducted the BBC Radio Orchestra, the Irish Radio/Television Concert Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the Budapest Opera Orchestra and the Babelsberg Film Studio Orchestra in Berlin. Bill has composed, arranged, produced and conducted stage productions including Academy Award presentations and over 100 albums and CDs in the USA, Australia and Europe. As a composer/arranger his film credits include The Quiet American, Soul Food and the Simpsons. He currently teaches theory, arranging, modern jazz history, improvisation and ensembles at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Bill continues to perform his works regularly in Sydney and inspires all musicians he comes in contact with. Motzing died January, He has a wiki here. 25 Composer Tommy Tycho: Composer Tommy Tycho, while sharing equal billing in the head credits with Armiger and Motzing, arrived late to the revised production and didn t share in the original 1986 AFI Award. He worked again with Yahoo Serious on Reckless Kelly, his last feature film score. Tommy Tycho: Tommy Tycho was a well-known Hungarian-born pianist, conductor, composer and arranger, who specialised in television work, acting as the Seven network's music director for its first fifteen years, from 1956 to He has a relatively detailed wiki here. His own website became inactive after he suffered a stroke in 2008 at the age of 80. Unfortunately the Wayback Machine only saved a small and relatively useless main page for the site:

It will be noted that Tycho shared a connection to the television comedy revue The Mavis Bramston Show, as did director Ron Way and co-producer James Fishburn. At one point, a transcript of an extended interview with him could be found on the ABC's Talking Heads, but the ABC in its notoriously lax way regarding its online archives has now lost the interview, and unfortunately the Wayback Machine didn t save it.. A briefer obituary published 5th April 2013 could be found here: Musician, composer and conductor Tommy Tycho has died aged 84 after suffering complications of pneumonia. Born in Hungary, Tycho started his career as a pianist for ABC radio in the 1950s. With the advent of television Tycho moved to Sydney channel ATN7, performing on the station s opening night program in December By 1957 he was Musical Director at ATN7, composing and performing for many of the channel s early productions including the Revue series, Studio A and The Mavis Bramston Show. In the book Forty Years Of Television, commemorating ATN7 s 40th anniversary in 1996, Tycho recalled his time at the station: In my long and fortunately successful career, one of the most happy times was my fifteen years at Channel Seven an incredibly busy and creative period when I was able to learn and improve my craft and perform with a legion of international and local stars, all of them good friends to this day. Among his many career achievements he was musical director for nine Royal Command Performances, the opening of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Entertainment Centre, the Australia Live broadcast and composed music for the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games, 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. He also composed original music for the Number 96 feature film in 1973, and in 1982 presented his own series on ABC and was a talent judge on Network Ten s You re A Star.

His version of Advance Australia Fair continues to be played at sporting and special events. In 1977 he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and ten years later a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). In 2007 he was conferred the degree of Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Sydney. He had been living in a nursing home since suffering a stroke in Tommy Tycho is survived by a wife, a daughter, son-in-law and step-daughter. (Below: Tommy Tycho) Finally, The Saints 45 even made its way to Germany and a Teldec release:
