1 40 th F arnham Competitive Music Festival 10 th to 18 th November Frensham Heights School Syllabus 2018 Closing date for entries Monday 15 th October 2018 online entry form
2 ABOUT US this is a fantastic venue for a music festival - a teenage participant I felt welcomed and very well looked after - an adult entering her first festival just the boost she needed; she feels enormously proud of herself she really enjoys performing in Farnham and is looking forward to next year comments from parents so encouraging to all and I know that every individual benefitted from the performing experience and the positive feedback - a local violin teacher a true gem of a competitive music festival. Everything about it was just exquisite: the pre-festival support, location, hall, quality of the adjudicator and her thorough comments, the care, friendliness and kindness you treated us with the family of Laura van der Heijden, BBC Young Musician 2012 winner These comments from recent years sum up the distinctive character of Farnham Competitive Music Festival which, with up to 400 entries each year, maintains high standards within a friendly atmosphere. We welcome participants of all ages and abilities, giving them the opportunity to perform in superb conditions and to receive guidance in both non-competitive and competitive classes from our professional adjudicators. Our 2018 Festival will be held once again at Frensham Heights School, three miles south of Farnham, in beautiful grounds with glorious views across the valley towards National Trust land. The Ballroom, Recital Room and Aldridge Theatre are used for Festival classes and the concert. The school s music practice rooms and ample free parking are available for participants during the Festival weekends. This year we are delighted to welcome Adrian Butterfield, Chris Hankin, Ann Martin-Davis and Jonathan Willcocks as our distinguished expert adjudicators for the strings, woodwind and brass, piano and singing sections, respectively. Details of our cash awards and bursary can be found on page 16.

Name: Jia Doulton jia-doulton@btconnect.com 3. Best practice advice in the form of Safe Working Practice and Festival Child Protection leaflets, with support and training for all Festival staff and volunteers. Including clear reporting procedures for anyone with a concern about a child. 4. All reported incidents will be handled in accordance with the Safe Working Practice and Festival Child Protection best practice advice. In addition we will ensure the availability of a quiet area / room where concerns can be expressed in private. 6. For the duration of a Festival all teachers/parents/guardians/carers are responsible for the continuous care and supervision of their own children/pupils. If they are unable to attend personally, they must delegate their responsibilities to an identified adult and ensure that their children/pupils are aware of the identity and name of the person responsible for their care. This includes supervision throughout all Festival venues, practice and changing areas that may be provided. The Festival cannot take responsibility for any property left unattended. 7. No unauthorised photography, audio or video recording of children and young people is allowed at our Festivals. Where parents/guardians/carers do not wish photos to be taken at all, then the responsible adult attending should ensure that their child is not included in official photos. 8. Some children and vulnerable adults may have specific needs in order to take part. If this is the case we ask responsible teachers/parents/guardians/carers to contact the Festival Organisers at the time of entry. The Festival actively seeks wherever possible to meet these needs, but must know beforehand in order to prepare support or to advise that help cannot be provided on this occasion. 9.
