Like the author in this passage, I find thinking about my pen pal, even though he is far away, just as the country of Nepal is far away, makes me feel as if I am visiting him in France. All the author has to do is think about or say the word "Namaste" and she feels good. The author is able to describe the people and scenery of Nepal because she has been there (maybe even many times). I can describe France and its people too because of my friendship with Paul. Stephen did not actually travel a "road," but he explored the rooms of Mammoth Cave. The article says that he was probably the first person to set foot in many of its rooms. Stephen s discoveries in Mammoth Cave attracted many visitors who paid Stephen to guide them through the huge cave. By guiding tours, Stephen earned enough money to free himself and his family from slavery.
