G R A M M A R Read the text below and think of the word which best fits each space. Use only one word in each space. There is an example at the beginning (0). The internet is (0) full of websites which seem to offer dream jobs. There are quotations from people who seem to have succeeded (1) making large amounts of money without having to (2) any real work at all. Instead, these lucky people have (3) able to earn enough to live well by playing various kinds of computer games and evaluating (4). It seems too good to (5) true! There are also other jobs in (6) people seem to be paid to play, or to do work that is such good fun it does not seem (7) work at all. For example, (8) you like cinema and computer games, than being the manager of a video shop (9) be very enjoyable, because you have to watch or play with all the latest releases so that you (10) decide what to buy for the shop. Obviously, playing a sport like tennis or volleyball professionally is really being paid to play, but even working (11) a travel guide or doctor on a cruise ship can also be quite good. (12) of my friends, (13) had spent years working long hours in hospitals, was (14) to get work as a doctor with an adventure travel company. She now spends (15) life trekking in Nepal or white water rafting in New Zealand and being paid for it! Total /15pts

VOCABULARY Read the text below and use the word given in capitals at the end of each line to form a word that fits in the space in the same line. Learning at home It is compulsory for children to have an (0) education but you may find it (1) that the teaching doesn t always have to take place in the school building. As long as they have the (2) paper (3), parents themselves can teach their children at home. They may make the (4) to do this because they are (5) with a particular school, or because they feel that they have more (6) of their own child s needs than teachers at school. However, there may be (7) of parents who make this (8) because some people feel that children who are taught at home find it difficult to mix (9) with young people of their own age. However, supporters of the idea (10) with EDUCATE SURPRISE NECESSITY QUALIFY DECIDE HAPPY KNOW CRITICIZE CHOOSE SOCIAL AGREE this. They think it is a better way of teaching children what is really important. Total /10

READING COMPREHENSION (1) You are going to read a magazine article about a driving test. For questions 1 8 choose from the people A E. The people and their dates may be chosen more than once. (For 2 questions there are two answers) When more than one answer is required, these may be given in any order. There is an example at the beginning. (0). Which person 0.. didn t like the examiner? B X 1.. didn t take their test? 2.. has got another test soon? 3.. had to wait for a long time? 4.. had taken the test before? 5.. was surprised by the results? 6.. started the test late? 7.. nearly had an accident? 8.. was worried? Total / 10 pts

READING COMPREHENSION (2) A/ Max On the whole, I enjoyed the experience. My examiner was friendly and quickly made me feel at ease. I pulled out of the test centre with no problems, I wasn t instructed to go anywhere that I hadn t already been, I felt fine about the manoeuvres and to be honest I can t recall making any significant mistakes. Mind you, I still failed! I couldn t believe it when she told me! B/ Tina I arrived an hour before my test which meant of course that I was sitting around all the time getting nervous. The test centre is a really depressing place so it wasn t much fun and to be honest, my examiner wasn t much better. As soon as he walked through the door I took an instant dislike to him. He seemed so miserable. I failed of course. C/ Mark I was absolutely determined to pass after four pervious attempts. I d been practising all week in my dad s car and I was really confident. Everything went well until I tried to park. I managed to back up on to the pavement and narrowly missed a lamp post. Still, I m going to have another go in a few weeks time so fingers crossed! D/ Josie I ve never been so anxious! I arrived at the test centre exactly on time only to find that my examiner hadn t arrived! After 10 minutes we were on the road, but I didn t feel any better! I remember making a few mistakes, but obviously they weren t that bad because when I got back to the centre, I was told I d passed. I m glad I don t have to go through that again! E/ Ben I arrived exactly on time so there was no waiting around and getting nervous. I felt fairly confident because I d had a lot of lessons and could do all the manoeuvres. Then it came to the bit where the examiner wanted to test my eyesight and he asked me to read the number plate of the car in front. Of course, I couldn t see a thing! I d forgotten my glasses. I had to rebook for a week s time!

LISTENING COMPREHENSION You will hear five people giving opinions about travelling. For questions 1 5, choose from the list A F which of the opinions each person mentions. Use the letters only once. There is one extra letter which you do not need to use. A. There are no real travellers any more. B. I would prefer to stay at home. C. Being comfortable is essential. D. I wouldn t go anywhere without a guidebook. E. It is too expensive. F. The best trips are for work or study purposes. SPEAKER 1 SPEAKER 2 SPEAKER 3 SPEAKER 4 SPEAKER 5 Autori: Mgr.
