Refer to the Operation section (referenced in parentheses) for full details. Users who prefer more detailed instructions should begin with the Operation section. Make sure that the Sample Sequencer 5 is properly wired (see Installation on page 15) and all analyzers are OFF before applying power to the system. 1. Apply power to the Sample Sequencer 5 unit. 2. Set up sample names: Select the Sample Names widget ( ) and enter a name for each sample line. (See Sample Names on page 32.) 3. Select the number of active sequences: Select the Sequences Active widget ( ) and choose the number of sequences (analyzers) to be used. Press the save button to automatically advance to the Sequences screen for the next step. (See Sequences Active on page 33.) 4. Set the sequences: On the Sequences ( ) screen, use the buttons to create the desired sequences (up to 16 sequence points) for up to four analyzers. Seq x (1 4) indicates the analyzer. (See Sequences on page 33.) 5. Set up analyzer names: Select the Analyzer Names widget ( ) and enter a name for each analyzer. (See Analyzer Names on page 34.) 6. Set the mode: Select the Mode widget ( ) and choose either Batch or Continuous mode for each analyzer. (See Mode on page 35.) 7. Set the units: Select the Units widget ( ) and set the unit of measure displayed for each sequence. (See Units on page 35.) 8. Scale analog inputs: Select the IO widget ( ). 8 9. Calibrate analog inputs: From the I/O screen, choose Analog Inputs Cal. Following the prompts on the screen, supply 4 ma and then 20 ma from a calibrated source to the desired input for calibration purposes. (See IO on page 36.) 10. Calibrate analog outputs: From the I/O screen, select Analog Outputs Cal. Connect a calibrated multimeter to the desired output, and use the up/down arrows on the screen to calibrate the output for both 20 ma and 4 ma. (See IO on page 36.) 11. Test digital outputs: From the I/O screen, select Digital Outputs Test. To test an output, toggle the indicator ON, then verify that the device connected to the output is active. (See IO on page 36.) ÂÂ NOTE Turn off all outputs before exiting the Digital Outputs Test screen. 12. Test solenoid valve outputs: From the I/O screen, select Solenoid Valves Test. To test an output, toggle the indicator ON, then verify that sample is flowing to the analyzer. (See IO on page 36.) ÂÂ NOTE Turn off all outputs before exiting the Solenoid Valve Outputs Test screen. 13. Bypass sample lines out of service: If any lines are out of service, select the Bypass widget ( ) and press the indicator of the sample to toggle between Sample (lighted) and Bypass (dimmed). (See Bypass on page 42.) 14. Set flush times: Select the Flush Times widget ( ) and set flush times for analyzers that operate in Continuous mode. (See Flush Times on page 43.) 15. Set sample times: Select the Sample Times widget ( ) and set the sample times for each sample. (See Sample Times on page 43.) 16. Start sequencer control: Return to the Sequencer Control screen by touching the escape button in the lower left corner of the Widgets screen. Toggle the indicators to turn on each analyzer. (See Sequencer Control screen on page 47.) General Description The Sentry Sample Sequencer 5 reduces the number of required analyzers while maintaining equivalent data accuracy. Electronically switches up to eight sample streams, one at a time, to a shared analyzer and provides signals to recorders. If eight sample streams are not needed for one process, the remaining points may be assigned to additional analyzers, up to four in total. Track and hold outputs provide independent outputs for each sample point to remote data acquisition devices (DCS, recorder, etc.). Digital outputs provide channel number indication and replicate analyzer alarms for remote data. Measures the analyzer analog output signal and converts the analog signal to digital data to send out using Modbus TCP/IP or Embedded web. Uses Modbus capability to connect a PC or system network to one or more sequencers for remote monitoring, control, and data acquisition. 8 Sentry Equipment Corp

9 Modes of Operation The Sample Sequencer 5 has two programmable modes of operation: Continuous mode is used for analyzers that continuously produce an analytical result. Batch mode is used for analyzers that take a sample bite (or batch), produce an analytical result, and then provide a contact signal output, typically in 1-20 minutes. Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3 illustrate typical system arrangements for sample stream switching with the Sample Sequencer 5. Customer-supplied equipment is shown for clarification. Figure 1. 12 Inputs and Outputs A variety of inputs and outputs are available on the Sample Sequencer 5. Analog Inputs Four analog inputs are located on the sequencer board for reading 4 20 ma signals from up to four different analyzers. The sequencer converts 4 20 ma signals into engineering units for display, and outputs the same signals for the track and hold analog outputs. Analyzer Alarm Inputs Alarm inputs are typically used to indicate a loss of sample flow to the analyzer. Four analyzer alarm inputs are located on the sequencer board. Alarm input causes the analyzer description to flash on the Operation screen and causes the digital alarm output for that sequencer to be set. In Continuous mode: 1. An alarm immediately closes the active sample valve and opens the next sample valve. 2. The next sample valve remains open until one of the following occurs: a. the alarm clears b. one minute elapses c. the timer expires 3. After the sample valve closes, the sequencer opens the next sample valve. 4. The sequencer continues trying to establish flow until the analyzer alarm clears. In Batch mode: 1. An alarm starts a timeout timer. (The operator can adjust the timeout timer for each sample individually by setting the sample timer.) 2. If the sequencer does not receive an end-of-batch indication from the analyzer, or if the alarm does not clear before the timer expires, the sequencer closes the current sample valve and opens the next valve in the sequence. 3. If the end-of-batch indication is received before the timer expires, the sequencer assumes the alarm is not a loss of flow and continues with normal operation. 12 Sentry Equipment Corp

13 Calibration Hold Inputs A calibration hold input indicates that the analyzer is performing a calibration. Four calibration hold inputs are located on the sequencer board. In Continuous mode, when a calibration hold input is received: The sequencer waits at the active sample with the valve open. Once the calibration hold clears, the sequencer resumes operation, entering the Flush state for the sample that was active before the calibration hold was received. In Batch mode, calibration hold inputs do not perform a function. End-of-Batch Inputs End-of-batch inputs are used to indicate when a batch type analyzer is finished taking a measurement. Four end-of-batch inputs are located on the sequencer board. Without this input connected, the Sample Sequencer 5 does not advance to the next sample when the sequencer is in Batch mode. End-of-batch inputs are not used in Continuous mode. Valve Outputs Valve outputs supply 12 VDC to operate the sample valves. Eight valve outputs are located on the sequencer board. The eight valves may be divided between four analyzers in any combination. Track and Hold Outputs Eight analog outputs (4 20 ma) are provided on the sequencer board. When a valid reading is taken from the analyzer for a given sample, the Sample Sequencer 5 tracks (updates) the corresponding signal on the appropriate output. When the sample is not currently being analyzed, the sequencer holds the corresponding signal on the appropriate output at its last known value. Digital Outputs A total of twelve digital outputs are available on the sequencer board: Four outputs are used to replicate the four analyzer alarm inputs Eight outputs are used for sample point indication. A lighted indicator next to an output indicates that the point is currently being sampled and the analyzer reading corresponds to that sample point. Sentry Sample Sequencer 5 Controller 13

14 Ethernet Communications The Sample Sequencer 5 is capable of connecting to a network for communicating to a PC or control system via Modbus TCP/IP. The sequencer also provides the option to view settings via embedded web. For more information on these features, refer to Appendix D on page 64. Optional Manifold Switching Valve The Sample Sequencer 5 may be used to control most manifold valve arrangements; however, the Sentry Manifold Switching Valve is a convenient optional accessory for obtaining representative samples. The patented Sentry Manifold Switching Valve incorporates block and bleed design provides continuously flowing samples eliminates areas where cross contamination can occur available in either four or eight sample line models Contact Sentry Equipment for more information about this optional sampling valve. 14 Sentry Equipment Corp

15 Installation This instrument should be installed by qualified technical personnel to ensure adherence to all applicable electrical codes. To ensure the protection provided by this equipment is not impaired, this equipment must not be installed or used in any manner other than that which is specified in this manual. Unpacking 1. Carefully remove the Sample Sequencer 5 from its shipping carton. 2. Inspect it for any damage. 3. Report damages to the shipper at once. Mounting Mount the Sample Sequencer 5 close to the analyzer to permit viewing of both devices at the same time. The sample sequencer mounts easily to either a panel or a wall. 16 Figure 5. Enclosure Dimensions: Side View Wall Mounting 1. Turn off all power to the Sample Sequencer 5 and disconnect all cables. 2. Use the dimension information shown in Figure 6 to mark positions on the wall for four screw holes. A minimum of two (2) mounting screws must mount to a stud. 3. Drill pilot holes in the marked positions for four ¼" (M6) screws. 4. Use four ¼" (M6) hex-head or pan-head screws to secure the device to the wall. 5. 17 Figure 7. Wall Mounting the Sample Sequencer 5 Panel Mounting 1. Turn off all power to the Sample Sequencer 5, disconnect all cables, and remove cable connectors. 2. Measure and cut the panel hole using the dimension information given in Figure Place supplied panel mounting gasket on the rear facing lip of the sequencer. 4. Fit the sequencer into the panel hole and secure it with the four (4) bolts and nuts that were supplied with the unit. 5. Replace cable connectors. 6. Make electrical connections as described in the Electrical Connections section beginning on page 19. Sentry Sample Sequencer 5 Controller 17

19 Electrical Connections Electrical Shock Hazard All input and output wiring should be installed in such a manner that access to bare copper is prohibited during normal operation. Access holes sized for ½" NPT (15 mm) and ¾" NPT (20 mm) electrical conduit fittings are provided on the bottom of the enclosure. Sealing type conduit fittings are required to maintain the enclosure s rating. Figure 10 (board view) and Figure 11 (schematic view) show the power connections on the board. Power Connection The Sample Sequencer 5 uses a universal power supply that accepts an input voltage range of VAC and frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. A power supply lead of 16 AWG (1.3 mm2) copper wire is recommended. Connect the sample sequencer to an electrical outlet or outlet strip with surge suppression and filtering. A suitable external over-current protection device such as a fuse (Class CC, 2A, Time delay) or circuit breaker (C trip curve, 2 A) is recommended for both the hot (L) and neutral (N) leads. Using this method, the plug serves as the disconnect device. A 16 AWG, 60 C, VW-1, 600V, type SJT cord is recommended for non-detachable connections. For permanent connections, use a flexible S0W cable or better. Sizing must be in accordance to the CEC. The mains and output terminal are rated within the following condition: Mains terminals rated up to 300V, 10A, AWG, PA insulating material, Inflammability class V0, Type: Plug, 2 or 3 position, and screw connection. Output terminals rated up to 300V, 8A, 14-30AWG, PA insulating material, Inflammability class V0, Type: Plug, 6 or 8 position, and screw connection. For permanently connected installations: A switch or circuit breaker shall be included in the building installation. It shall be in close proximity to the equipment and within easy reach of the operator. It shall be marked as the disconnecting device for the equipment. The cord and plug shall comply with the following standards: Table 1. 20 If desired, the Sample Sequencer 5 may also be hard wired to instrument-quality power using appropriate certified conduit, fittings, and wiring. A suitable external over-current protection device, such as a fuse (Class CC, 2A, Time delay) or circuit breaker (C trip curve, 2 A), and disconnect device is recommended. The over-current protection and disconnect devices shall be installed on both the hot (L) and neutral (N) leads. The disconnect device shall be located near the equipment and marked with appropriate ON( ) OFF(O) markings as specified by local codes. For fixed wiring methods, the ground conductor shall have green with a yellow stripe as the insulation. During connection of the power wire, the grounding lead must be suitably routed and long enough so that it is the last conductor to take the strain. Installation should be performed by qualified personal in accordance with local codes and procedures. Grounding and EMC Considerations Power To properly ground the Sample Sequencer 5: 1. Connect a ring terminal ground lug to the ground wire. 2. Secure the ground lug to the enclosure ground stud, which is marked with a ground symbol and is located next to the customer power connection. 3. For an insulated ground conductor, use a green or green with yellow stripe conductor which is the same size as the mains conductor. I/O Cables To maintain SGS and CE ratings for EMC: All I/O cables must be shielded and grounded. The shield (drain) wire for the analyzer inputs must be tied to an isolated ground located near the opposite cable end (analyzer) from the sequencer, and not connected to the sequencer. All cables connected to the sequencer must use the clamp-on ferrites. (Supplied) The supplied ferrites must be installed on all I/O cables. 20 Sentry Equipment Corp

21 Sequencer Board Connections Make sure all leads are lugged prior to wiring to the terminal blocks. This avoids the potential for miswiring and placing transients on the analyzer(s) and sequencer. Be sure to ground the shield in the analyzer as detailed in Grounding and EMC Considerations on page 20. Connections from the Analyzer(s) Referencing Figure 11, analyzer connections include: 4 20mA output signal analyzer alarm (typically a loss of flow or system failure alarm) end-of-batch signal for batch analyzers calibration signal for continuous analyzers Use a 22 AWG multiple twisted pair shielded cable similar to Belden 9512 for each analyzer connected. This allows the signals to be connected from each analyzer to the removable terminal block plug on the sequencer with one cable (see Figure 10). Analog Outputs from the Sequencer (Track and Hold) Analog outputs (Track and Hold, 4 20 ma) are created in the sequencer for each sample being sequenced through the analyzer(s). Outputs provide individual sample line data acquisition for local or remote indication. Connections may be used with a recorder or in situations where analog I/O at the receiving device is limited. There are two track and hold terminal blocks in the sequencer (see Figure 10). Use a 22 AWG 4 pair twisted pair shielded cable similar to Belden 9514 for wiring to each removable terminal block. Maximum load is 500 ohms. (See Specifications on page 6 for additional details.) Digital Outputs from the Sequencer The Sample Sequencer 5 has 16 sinking digital outputs to provide point indication for sample being analyzed: eight (8) on one terminal block four (4) replicated analyzer alarms four (4) spares on a separate terminal block Use a 22 AWG multi-conductor shielded cable similar to Belden 9423 for wiring to each removable terminal block. Valve Output Connections The valve outputs of the Sample Sequencer 5 output 12 VDC, and are intended for use with the Sentry Manifold Sample Valve. Other manifold valves may be used; however, additional hardware such as interposing relays may be required. Use an 18 AWG multi-conductor shielded cable similar to Belden 9409 for wiring to each solenoid valve used. Typical valve connections are shown in Figure 11. Sentry Sample Sequencer 5 Controller 21

24 TCP/IP Modbus and Embedded Web Connections TCP/IP Modbus and Embedded Web connections are made using the Ethernet port. For more information on using the TCP/IP Modbus and Embedded Web features, refer to Appendix D on page 64. Alternate Sequencer Board Connections Aside from a power source, the Sample Sequencer 5 can alternatively be connected to the above IO using the quick connect ports and corresponding cables to a customer supplied terminal block. These ports (labeled S5L and S5R) are located on the bottom of the sequencer behind the sealed fitting connections (see Figure 12). Figure 12. 28 Operation To ensure the protection provided by this equipment is not impaired, this equipment must not be installed or used in any manner other than that which is specified in this manual. Description of Controls Table 2 describes controls on the Sample Sequencer 5 touch screen display. Table 2. Control Descriptions Description Widgets button Enter button Escape button Save button Function The widgets button takes you to the Widgets screen, where touching a widget icon takes you to the corresponding function screen. Touching the enter button takes the value you have entered and updates the function screen with that value. Touching the escape button returns you to the previous screen; any value changes are discarded. 30 Operation Screen The Operation screen is the main screen on the Sample Sequencer 5. This screen contains all the information indicating the state of the sequencer. No system changes can be made on this screen. Figure 16. Apply power to the Sample Sequencer 5 unit. The Operation screen appears. 2. Touch anywhere on the Operation screen, excluding the left and right arrow areas, to get to the Control screen (see Figure 43). If prompted, enter password. 3. 31 Additional Features Additional Sequences: Depending on the settings, there are one or two sequences displayed per Operation screen. Touch the left or right arrows on the screen to view additional sequences. Sequence sample line names: Displayed to the left of the analyzer with the appropriate sample name indicated in the sample line tubing. Status: In Continuous mode, this displays the state of the sample sequencer, time remaining, and measurement value. The three available states are FLUSH, SAMPLE, and OFF. The time displayed is the time remaining in the current state. The measurement value is only displayed when the sequencer is in the SAMPLE state. In Batch mode, this indicates the state of the sequencer, OFF or SAMPLE. Open Sample Valve Name: Displays the sample description for the currently open valve. Analyzer Description: User definable field that describes the analyzer being sequenced. The maximum number of characters is four. When an analyzer alarm or calibration signal is received, this description flashes. Most Recent Active Value: In Continuous mode, the current measurement value is displayed. In Batch mode, this displays the description of the previously sampled point and its measurement value. The measurement value on the analyzer corresponds to this sample point. If password protection is enabled, the Password Entry screen appears when the user attempts to enter the Control screen. Enter the password to gain access to change the settings on the Sample Sequencer 5. If you do not know the password, please contact Sentry Equipment. Widgets Screen The Widgets screen provides access to the various settings and functions of the sample sequencer. Select an individual widget to access its corresponding function screen. Select the escape button in the lower left corner to return to the Control screen. Select the arrow button in the lower right corner to access additional widgets. Certain widgets, such as Flush Times and Sample Times, require that the sequence be turned off before accessing data. If you are unable to access a widget, it is likely due to this requirement. Each sequence is limited to a total of 16 sequence points; not all 16 points need to be filled. At the end of the sequence, the sequence wraps to the first point. 4. 35 Mode The Sample Sequencer 5 is capable of operating in two different modes, depending on the type of analyzer being used. Continuous mode is for continuous output analyzers such as sodium, conductivity, ph, O 2, some colorimetric, and many other analyzers. Batch mode is for analyzers that take a bite or batch of sample and then spend some time analyzing it before outputting a new fixed analog signal. These typically include silica, phosphate, and other analyzers. Figure 22. Mode screen 1. Touch the Mode widget to access the Mode screen. 2. Toggle a sequence between Batch and Continuous modes by touching the indicator next to the sequence you wish to change. 3. Touch the save button to save the changes made on this screen. After you have set the 4 ma output, touch the 4.00 ma area on the screen. The output area is now blank. g. Repeat steps b f for all outputs that require calibration. h. The five (5) available output levels are 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of full scale. 3. Verify reading with your multimeter. 4. 41 Digital Inputs View: Use this screen when you wish to view the digital inputs. When an indicator is illuminated, the digital input is on. No changes can be made from this screen. Figure 32. This calibration is timed; failure to follow the prompts in a timely manner returns you to the main screen without saving the calibration values. 42 Bypass Sample streams may be temporarily skipped in the sequence by placing the sample point number in Bypass mode. Figure 34. Bypass screen If a sample line is temporarily out of service, skip it without changing the sequence by placing the sample line in Bypass mode. 1. Touch the Bypass widget to access the Bypass Line screen. 2. Toggle between Sample (lighted indicator) and Bypass (dimmed indicator) by touching the indicator next to the sample line you wish to change. ÂÂ NOTE When a point that is placed in Bypass is next to be sequenced, the point is skipped and the next point that is in Sample is sequenced. Occasionally, it is necessary to hold an analysis on one sample point. To do this, simply place all the undesired sample points in Bypass mode. 3. 43 Flush Times In Continuous mode, flush time is the amount of time sample flows through the analyzer before the analyzer reading is considered valid. Flush time is not used in Batch mode. Since the analyzer alarm input may serve to indicate more than a loss of sample flow, sample time should be set to give the analyzer sufficient time to attempt to complete an analysis and output an end-of-batch indication. Touch the blue button to toggle between Enabled and Disabled. When Enabled is selected, the current password is displayed. 3. To change the password, touch the password and a keypad appears. 4. Use the arrows to scroll through the data. The data includes the sample name, a time stamp, and the value. The Date Stamp and Time Stamp are taken the moment the data is logged. To exit, use the escape key. No changes can be made from this screen. Preferences To set the preferences for the Sample Sequencer 5, use the Preferences screen. Figure 41. 48 Additional Features Depending on your settings, there are one to four sequences displayed on the Sequencer Control screen. Touch the indicator next to each sequence to turn the sequence on or off. Touch the widgets button to view the Widgets screen. Operating Modes Continuous Mode Continuous mode is for continuous output analyzers such as sodium, conductivity, ph, O 2, some colorimetric, and many others. Timing considerations for Continuous mode Figure 44 illustrates the timing diagram for Continuous mode. The following considerations should be made when determining the timing for your system. Analyzer Alarm: An analyzer alarm immediately closes the active sample valve and opens the next sample valve. That sample valve remains open until the analyzer alarm clears or one minute elapses. After one minute, the sample sequencer opens the next sample valve. The sequencer continues trying to establish flow every minute until the analyzer alarm clears. Calibration Hold: A calibration hold signal causes the sample sequencer to wait at the active sample with the valve open. Once the calibration indication clears, the sequencer resumes operation, entering the Flush state for the sample that was active before the calibration hold indication was received. Flush Time: After switching to a successive stream, the analyzer needs a settling time to stabilize to the new sample. The analyzer analog output signal is ignored during this time. The necessary flush time depends on the valve manifold design, sample line length from the manifold arrangement, sample velocity, and analyzer response time. Sample Time: Sample time is the time period during which a valid analyzer signal is read. Analog outputs are updated and point identification relay contacts are closed during this time. The necessary sample time should be set long enough to recognize stable readings and to provide recording devices time to capture the data. 48 Sentry Equipment Corp

Continuous Mode Timing Diagram Batch Mode Batch mode is for analyzers that take a bite or batch of sample and then spend some time analyzing it before outputting a new fixed analog signal. Typical types are reagent additive, chromatographs, etc. When these analyzers have completed an analysis, there is just one output value until the analyzer s next cycle is completed. An end-of-batch contact closure signal must be provided at the conclusion of a batch by the batch type analyzers. The Hach Series 5000 analyzer operates in this manner. Timing Considerations for Batch Mode Figure 45 illustrates the timing diagram for Batch mode, showing how each sample stream is switched when the analyzer outputs an end-of-batch signal to the Sample Sequencer 5. If the sequencer does not receive an end-of-batch signal, it does not advance to the next sample. Upon receiving an end-of-batch signal from the analyzer, the sequencer reads the analyzer value, updates the Track and Hold output, and closes the point identification relay. Â Â NOTE The updated Track and Hold output and point identification relay are for the previous sample point. The open valve number never matches the closed relay point identification in Batch mode. 50 The following considerations should be made when determining the timing for your Batch mode system: End-of-Batch: The sequencer receives this signal when the analysis is completed and the analyzer is ready to begin a new analysis. Analyzer Alarm: The sequencer receives this signal when the analyzer is in alarm, such as a loss of sample flow condition. Once the analyzer alarm signal is received, the sequencer starts the sample timer and replicates the analyzer alarm for use by external recorders and control systems. Sample Time: The sample time in Batch mode is a timeout timer that operates only when the analyzer is in alarm. While in alarm, if an end-of-batch signal is not received before the sample time expires, the sequencer closes the current sample point and proceeds with the next sample point. Since the analyzer alarm input may serve to indicate more than a loss of sample flow, the sample time should be set to give the analyzer sufficient time to attempt to complete an analysis and output an end-of-batch indication. Figure 45. Batch Mode Timing Diagram Valve Outputs The Sample Sequencer 5 switches sample streams to an analyzer using the valve outputs on the board. These outputs provide 12 VDC to control solenoid valves. Sentry Equipment offers a manifold switching valve for use with the Sample Sequencer 5. 51 Maintenance Cleaning The Sample Sequencer 5 is constructed of rugged materials that do not require cleaning. If cleaning the external surfaces is desired, a soft cloth and water is recommended. Battery The sequencer board contains a lithium ion battery. This battery is not intended for field replacement. Contact the factory for additional information regarding replacing this battery or proper disposal of a CPU board containing the lithium ion battery. The power supply uses a 4 A fast-acting fuse rated for 250 V. Replacement fuses for the power supply are available from Sentry Equipment. Refer to the Spare Parts List of this manual for further information. Refer to the Disassembly procedure below for instructions on replacing user replaceable parts such as fuses. Disassembly Electrical Shock Hazard Disconnect all power, including voltages connected to relays, before servicing or replacing fuses. Use the following steps to replace any user serviceable parts: 1. Open the door of the enclosure using a screwdriver to unlock the door. 2. Disconnect all terminal blocks on the circuit board. Remove the circuit board by removing the mounting screws. 3. Disconnect the power supply cable from the power supply board. 4. Replace desired part, such as fuse, circuit board, or cable assembly. 5. Replace the circuit board. Secure the board in place using the screws removed in step 2. Reconnect all terminal blocks. 6. Close and lock door. Sentry Sample Sequencer 5 Controller 51

52 Calibration ÂÂ NOTE The analog circuitry of the Sample Sequencer 5 is calibrated at Sentry Equipment prior to shipment. Re-calibration should be performed by properly trained personnel. Refer to the following procedures to calibrate the analog circuits of the Sample Sequencer 5: Analog Input Calibration Tools Required: Calibrated milliamp supply. 1. To calibrate analog inputs, use the Analog Inputs Cal screen. 2. Remove the existing analog input wires and connect a calibrated milliamp supply to terminals AI and GND on the desired analyzer terminal block. 3. Supply 4.00 ma from a calibrated source to the desired input. 4. Touch the Press to Cal area of the screen. The status area indicates that the input is calibrating. 5. When finished, the input reads Enter ma. Supply 20 ma from a calibrated source to the input. 6. Touch the Press to Cal area to begin. The status area indicates that the input is calibrating. 7. Once the input has finished calibrating, the status area is blank and calibration is complete. 8. Repeat process for any additional analog inputs you wish to calibrate. When finished, touch the save button to save all calibration values, or the escape button to return to the previous screen without saving. Analog Output Calibration Tools Required: Calibrated multimeter with milliamp measurement capability. 1. To calibrate analog outputs, use the Analog Outputs Cal screen. 2. Connect a calibrated multimeter to the + and terminals of the desired channel on the terminal block labeled Track and Hold. 3. As displayed on the screen, the output should be reading 20 ma. If the multimeter isn t reading 20.0 ma, use the up and down arrows on the screen until the multimeter is reading 20.0 ma. 4. After you have set the 20 ma output, touch the 20.0 ma area on the screen. This updates the output to 4 ma. 5. If the multimeter isn t reading 4.0 ma, use the up and down arrows on the screen until the multimeter is reading 4.0 ma. 6. After you have set the 4 ma output, touch the 4.0 ma area on the screen. 7. Repeat the above steps for any other outputs you would like to calibrate. 57 Appendix A: Recommended Piping Maintain proper sample conditioning and flow control in order to obtain representative samples. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) guidelines for representative sampling recommend maintaining constant and continuous sample flow in sample lines. In addition, it is recommended that the sample be cooled to a temperature of 77 F (25 C) prior to analysis. ÂÂ NOTE Some analyzers may recommend a different sample temperature be used to accelerate the analysis process. Appropriate sample coolers or heaters may be required. Consult the pressure and temperature specifications for your specific analyzer and sampling system. 58 Appendix B: Using a Sequencer with Hach Series 5000 Analyzer The Sample Sequencer 5 may operate with a Hach Series 5000 analyzer. The Series 5000 instruments operate in Batchmode style and require the appropriate configuration for use with the Sample Sequencer 5. Hach 5000 analyzers have special features that provide a contact closure at the end of the batch. This is called the Mark End of Measurement contact closure. The contact closure causes the sample sequencer to advance to the next sample point. See Batch Mode on page 49 for more information. Figure B-1 illustrates how to connect the Sample Sequencer 5 to a Hach Series 5000 analyzer. The Hach 5000 analyzer must be configured properly to operate with the sequencer. The analyzer must be programmed to use relay #3 and relay #4 for System Alarm and End-of-Measurement contact closure indications, respectively. Consult the Hach analyzer manual for information about configuring the System Alarm to relay 3. The following procedure describes how to configure the End-of-Measurement contact closure on the Hach Figure B-1. Wiring to a Hach Series 5000 Analyzer 58 Sentry Equipment Corp

59 Configuring the Series 5000 (Catalog No XX through XX) for MARK END OF MEASURE on Relay 4 1. Remove the front cover of the control module. Move the No. 1 DIP switch on SW1 to the ON position. This enables the Extended Diagnostic menu. (Switch SW1 is an 8-switch DIP located near the center of the circuit board.) 2. Return to the front of the control panel and press the TEST key. Using the NEXT key, scroll through the diagnostic menu to MARK END OF MEAS. Press ENTER and select ENABLE with the NEXT key. Then, press ENTER. This activates the MARK END OF MEASURE contact closure. 3. Turn OFF switch No. 1 on switch bank SW1 of the circuit board. This returns the analyzer to normal operation but leaves the MARK END OF MEASURE function enabled. ÂÂ NOTE This procedure has to be repeated if a cold start is performed. 4. Reassign the System Alarm to relay 3: Press the SET UP key. ALARMS appears. Press ENTER. Scroll with the NEXT key to RELAY CONFIG and press ENTER. Scroll to SYS ALRM with the NEXT key and then press ENTER. Scroll with the NEXT key to RLY 3 and press ENTER. 5. Reassign Alarm 2 to No Relay: Press the SETUP key on the control module. ALARMS appears. Press ENTER. Scroll with the NEXT key to RELAY CONFIG and press ENTER. Scroll to ALARM2 and press ENTER. Scroll with the NEXT key to NO RLY and press ENTER. 6. Assign relay 4 to Mark End of Measure: Press the SETUP key on the control module. ALARMS appears. Press ENTER. Scroll with the NEXT key to RELAY CONFIG and press ENTER. Scroll to MARK END OF MEAS and press ENTER. ÂÂ NOTE MARK END OF MEAS does not appear unless it has been properly activated per the above steps. Scroll with the NEXT key to RLY 4 and press ENTER. This assigns the alarm 4 relay to mark the end of measurement with a contact closure. The contact closure makes the Sample Sequencer 5 advance to the next sample point. 7. Verify the Sample Sequencer 5 is operating in Batch mode. Older Hach Series 5000 Analyzers If you have an analyzer with a catalog model number 5000X-XX, contact Hach Service Department at regarding the use of the Sample Sequencer 5 with your analyzer. Updated software EEPROM may be required to operate correctly with the Sample Sequencer 5.
