1 How to convert or move a 24fps project to a 30fps project Posted by DNL - 28 Sep :26 I created a project as 24fps so that I could easily edit any and all frame rates that I need to import. Now I am at the end of the project and I am trying to make a DVD and or an MP4 file. The imports that I make show the interlace lines. I believe that I need to move all of my material to a 30 fps project. I did a test using the main piece of material from which the show is cut and if I import that clip into a 30fps project I can indeed export a clean file without interlace artifacts. How can I move this project out of its 24 fps project into a 30 fps project? Posted by jwrl - 29 Sep :10 If you have mixed frame rate media you really can't. I shouldn't have set this up as a 24 fps project, but I did. The edit is done and is about an hour long and complex, especially the sound, as levels had to be 1 / 5

2 carefully readjusted throughout. The edit plays nicely within LW, but the output has interlace artifacts, lines. My need is to somehow get a clean looking output to make a DVD. How can I transfer the 24 fps work into a 30 fps project? That is the question, I think. Can one project be moved into another? The key issue is to capture the edit decisions for the long 60i clip. All the other decisions could be redone and if necessary I could transcode a few of the other clips. The still will take care of themselves but I don't want to have to redo all the animation keyframes used on the stills. I want to carry over all of those decisions into a new 30 fps project. I wonder if I could just transcode the long 60i clip to 24p and then hand replace each section of it, leaving the audio as is. Posted by RWAV - 29 Sep :59 This may absolutely not work but may be worth a shot - based on another user's recent experience - make a LW archive of the full project - go to the archive at a computer level - Open the summary.odb file in a simple ASCII editor - locate the File which reads "PROJECT_RATE:30" (in your case that would obviously be 24) - chnage it to 30 - make a new 30 fps project in LW 2 / 5

3 - go to the import tool, navigate to the modifies archive and - - see what happens. Do not overwrite your existing project 24fps n theory all your media is already on your system so you should not need to import any media. Posted by DNL - 29 Sep :38 I did a test. I created a test project mimicking parameters of my important 24 fps project. I created an archive of it asking that linked and local material be included. I changed the frame rate in the ODB Summary file of the archive to 30. I created a new 30 fps project and imported the archive. It imported but when I try to search for clips and edits, there is no option to do so. The content section of the search window only shows "whole project" and even that choice is grayed out. 4 From that copy remove all shots that are not compatible with a 30fps project - simply leave an empty space - or perhaps replace with 'black' - you will have to deal with that later. Make a bin of all the contents of that new edit - put the edit into that bin as well. From the bin cogs menu select 'Copy to' and the 30fps project you wish to hold your 30fps version. I believe this will probably work, though you still may have to make adjustments to your edit based on the new frame rate. More information to come later. EDIT: Double checked on a Pro system that it still exists - LW has for many years had an intelligent conversion capability via EDL generation - still does. You will be given the option to either keep current shot lengths or keep current cut point frames. With a bit of experimentation with settings this is completely non-destructive and should definitely work for you export/import a 30fps EDL - of course you will still need to replace any media that is not compatible with a 30fps project. I did a test and although there is a drift of about 2 seconds over an hours time, this conversion would work and I could drop in piece by piece, eye matching. I also want to try the other ideas, especially RWAV's last suggestion, but I have gotten sidetracked for a 4 / 5

5 few days. Also, I wonder what would happen if I just changed the "24" to "30" in the ODB sample file. I plan to do an experiment on separate material. Does anyone know if this would not work? The lesson from this is as follows: LW has the extraordinary ability to mix frame rates. This is due to the origins of LW technology as a means to cut film. Back in the day we could rely on this. However, today, it is much better to create a project with the framerate of your dominate material. Lesson learned. 5 / 5
