Ex-Ante Market Analysis DAM average clearing price and volumes (12/08 25/08) 8

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Volumes from ex-ante auctions. Highest volumes still clearing in DAM, though some outliers resulting in higher volumes of trade in intraday auctions 9

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Prices in DAM continue to follow the profile of the load cleared Fall in average prices in hour 5 & 6 due to price floors on August 18 th 10

Ex-Ante Market Analysis IDA1 - Price does seem to be sensitive to the load clearing Average volumes still low in the 300MW range 11

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Average volumes in IDA2 around 200MW. 12

Ex-Ante Market Analysis IDA3 price vs volume outlier average driven by price cap on xxxx. 13

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Excluding the outlier price floors on August 18 th, prices follow the range previously observed 14

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Barring these two prices, DAM prices have been less erratic than previously observed 15

Ex-Ante Market Analysis As noted throughout the trial, extreme price events more common in the intraday auctions 16

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Extreme price outcomes Trade Date Market Outcome 13/08/2018 IDA1 Price Floor 18/08/2018 DAM Price Floor 18/08/2018 IDA1 Price Floor 18/08/2018 IDA2 Price Floor 22/08/2018 IDA3 Price Cap 23/08/2018 IDA1 Price Cap / Floor 17

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Traded volumes (aggregate across markets) 18

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th Unusual pattern of trading behaviour by one participant in two hours. 19

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th Offered in sales of 6000MW in two hours with min offer at price floor and max offer at price cap 20

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th All supplier volumes offered in this hour met as a result 21

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th both interconnectors exporting at max capacity 22

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th result is that seller is only partially cleared and then sets the market clearing price at the price floor of

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th In IDA1, same unit bids to buy back 2000MW in each half hour relating to the high sale from the DAM 24

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th Volume clears fully and changes price direction, and with it interconnector flows Price caps in hour 8 due to interconnector already at max export from DAM 25

Ex-Ante Market Analysis August 18 th IDA2 same participant submitted an offer of 5000MW in the first half hour at price cap and floor Offer partially clears setting the clearing price of the auction at the floor for this half hour 26

Ex-Ante Market Analysis Overall during the two weeks, extreme price events were associated with higher than normal volumes being traded in individual auctions with price caps / floors in the submitted orders 27

Ex-Ante Market Analysis For example, price cap in IDA1 on August 23 rd single bid submitted by a supplier to buy 6000MW at any price, partially cleared and sets clearing price at the cap 28

Ex-Ante Market Analysis While we had previously tried to make comparisons between SEM system load and I-SEM ex-ante trading activity, the increase of exceptionally high volumes being pushed through makes comparisons redundant; 29

Ex-Ante Market Analysis As previously noted throughout previous presentations, extreme results in price and volumes directly related to participants bidding behaviour; 30

Balancing Market - Scheduling & Dispatch Over last fortnight the schedulers are running reliably producing long, medium and short term indicative operations schedules. Only one issue over the fortnight which occurred on Friday 17 th August. IT systems reinforcement for transient non-functional issues which hampered earlier part of 24/7 MT have been successful. At last MTCG meeting, concern was raised re treatment of Priority Dispatch. This was analysed and BM scheduler shown to be behaving appropriately. Recent queries regarding MWOF instructions not per TOD. This is correct as RTD economically dispatches to EDIL declaration which are aligned with production EDIL. Procedures Unit trip testing: Recent internal trial of three units in BM scheduling. Unit Under Test: MP need to phone the relevant control centres when submitting PNs containing under test periods. Reminder: EDILv5 I-SEM Participant Update published 23 May Market Participants to ensure Java is up to date per spec. 32

Further improvements ongoing to improve performance as required PUBLICATION_TIMESTAMP attribute is incorrectly assigned the start time of the credit assessment, rather than the finish time. In those cases the forecast SRA is incorrect When the processing time for a bill case is too long, settlement reports may be published beyond the 1-hour threshold. Summary and Detail records do not sum correctly. Market participants and any thirdparty system providers should ignore the additional 1-second on the timestamp and consider the time to be exactly on the ISP interval. Market Participants need to be to handle null values that are present for this determinant Inconsistency between detailed and summary records within the same REPT_043. 64 I-SEM Known Issues Detail: Balancing Market Meeting Date: 29 Aug 2018 ID Name Description Impact to Market Participants 5518 Scheduling input - errors with data handling for Hydro For the LTS, RTC and RTD runs, the Scheduling and dispatch initial available energy for a pumped outcomes for PS units storage unit is erroneously reset to are suboptimal. zero MWh at midnight. This stays at 0 MWh until 01:00. Any LTS, RTC or RTD runs that include this time horizon are affected by this. Status In Analysis Res. Date Pre Go-Live (TBC) Resolution: Software Update from Vendor Temporary workaround until update 5519 Scheduling inputs - LTS, RTC and RTD use Initial Energy = Real Time EMS Hydro Plant start up/shutdown limits The starting points of the LTS and RTC runs, are erroneously set to the current EMS real time reservoir levels. This results in poor quality input data. For go live RTD should set its Initial Energy from the EMS, RTC should look ahead to the estimated level from RTD and LTS should look ahead to the estimated level from RTC. Hydro plants are experiencing issues with their start/shut down limits. Scheduling and dispatch outcomes for hydro units are suboptimal. Investigation ongoing to assess impact. 65 I-SEM Known Issues Detail: Balancing Market Meeting Date: 29 Aug 2018 ID Name Description Impact to Market Participants 5497 VTOD Soak Times When you attempt to retrieve a VTOD set from the MPI via type 2 or type 3 the query returns incorrect values. It represents the SOAK warm quantity values with the registered SOAK Hot quantities. Please note: the integrity of the VTOD set is unaffected. This is simply an incorrect query mapping in the MPI. This leads to confusion for MP's as they cannot view their Soak time values effectively. The SO and MO approval approves the correct values. Status In Analysis Res. Date Post Go-Live (TBC) Resolution: Software update from vendor. Update the query function. 65
