5 ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE A discharge of static electricity from a figer or other coductor may damage circuit boards or other static-sesitive devices. This type of damage may reduce the life expectacy of the device. To prevet electrostatic damage, observe the followig precautios: Avoid had cotact by trasportig ad storig parts i static-safe cotaiers. Keep electrostatic-sesitive parts i their cotaiers util they arrive at static-free work statios. Place parts o a grouded surface before removig them from their cotaier. Avoid touchig pis, leads, or circuitry. Always be properly grouded whe touchig a staticsesitive compoet or assembly. GROUNDING METHODS There are several methods for groudig. Use oe or more of the followig measures whe hadlig or istallig electrostatic-sesitive parts: Use a wrist strap coected by a groud cord to a grouded workstatio or the priter chassis. Wrist straps are flexible straps with a miimum of 1 megohm ± 10 percet resistace i the groud cords. To provide a proper groud, wear the strap sug agaist the ski. Use heel straps, toe straps, or boot straps at stadig workstatios. Wear the straps o both feet whe stadig o coductive floors or dissipatig floor mats. Use coductive field service tools. Use a portable field service kit with a foldig staticdissipatig work mat. If you do ot have the proper groudig equipmet, have a Authorized Digital Reseller istall the part. 6 ITEMS NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION AppleTalk Iterface Optio Kit Nomagetic Phillips screwdriver LocalTalk compatible cable NOTE: The AppleTalk board is delivered with DB-9 ad DIN- 8 coectors. Cotact your Network Admiistrator or authorized Apple Dealer for assistace i purchasig the appropriate cables ad coectors. CAUTION: To avoid electrostatic damage to the priter optio ad/or system cotroller board, follow the safety precautios outlied i "Electrostatic Discharge." STEP 1 TURN THE PRINTER OFF (O) AND UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. 6

7 ! WARNING: Tur the priter off ad uplug the AC power cord before attemptig to remove the system cotroller board. Failure to do so may result i a electrical shock or damage to the priter. 8 STEP 2 STEP 3 DISCONNECT ALL CABLES FROM THE PRINTER. PRESS DOWN ON THE TABS TO OPEN AND LOWER THE REAR COVER. 8

10 STEP 6 J9 J7 PLUG THE APPLETALK INTERFACE CONNECTOR INTO LOCATION J7 OR J9 AND SECURE. 10

11 STEP REINSTALL AND SECURE THE CONTROLLER BOARD AND CLOSE THE REAR COVER. 1 Thumbscrews 2 System Cotroller Board 3 Rear Cover STEP 8 RECONNECT ALL CABLES. 11

12 STEP 9 PLUG IN AND TURN ON (I) THE PRINTER. STEP 10 PRINT A HARDWARE REPORT. Usig the priter cotrol pael: 1. Press the Meu key. The priter is placed offlie ad i meu mode. 2. Go to the Reports meu to prit a Hardware Report. 3. After pritig the report, press Olie (E lige, Iliea, E líea) to place the priter back olie. 4. Verify that the AppleTalk iterface is listed o the report. 12 TROUBLESHOOTING If the optio you just istalled is ot listed o the Hardware Report, you should: 1. Make sure that the AppleTalk board is properly istalled ad firmly secured at the J7 or J9 locatio. 2. Reru the Hardware Report. 3. If the board is still ot listed, move it to the other coector (J7 or J9). 4. Reru the Hardware Report. 5. If the AppleTalk iterface is still ot listed, cotact your Authorized Service Provider.
