INSTALLATION AND USE OF THE DVIPRO100 CONTENTS: 1.0 Overview Power supply Presettings Connections Basic functioning Advanced functioning (IR remote control) RS232 / Ethernet control Firmware upgrade Technical data Note 23 Please read this handbook carefully when installing the DVIPRO100 unit. The manufacturer declines any responsibility for damage or injury due to use, even correct, of its products. Product data and characteristics may be modified without prior notice. 2
1.0 OVERVIEW Thank you for buying this product. Check the contents of the packaging carefully. It contains: The DVIPRO100 unit makes it possible to send converted video signals coming from 5 different sources on a programmable output in seven different formats: 2 PC type inputs with HDD15 connector that support signals up to SXGA60 or 1080p, a Y/C video input with minidin connector, a composite video input, an input selectable as composite video or as YCbCr. The output is available in analogue format on HDD15 connector and in digital DVI format. Each channel can be displayed in full-screen mode or re-scaled and positioned as required inside the area of the screen; also, the video channels can be overlayed (PIP) on the PC primary window, also in this case with the possibility of adjusting size and position as required. On both windows, switching takes place through fading with programmable time. The entire unit can be controlled and programmed using a remote control or from remote using an RS232 serial channel or via Ethernet (optional module). Five different presets, which can be recalled at any time and programmed as required for each individual parameter, are available in the memory of the unit. The related stereo audio channel is associated to each of the input channels and output volume is digitally adjustable using the remote control or RS232. The audio output signal is available in balanced and unbalanced form. 3
2.0 POWER SUPPLY The DVIPRO100 unit must be powered with AC. voltage of /60Hz using the cable provided. The socket of the cable must be inserted in the related panel plug to the left on the back of the unit. The panel plug is equipped with a fuse-holder for 5X20 fuses. If the fuse blows, replace it with one of equal rating as specified on the back of the unit. All operations must be carried out by qualified personnel only who must be informed of the risks of electric shock. In some countries, the plug of the cable must be replaced to adapt this to local standard outlets. The wires are identified according to the following coding: - Brown PHASE (Identified with the letter L, may be red) - Blue NEUTRAL (Identified with the letter N, may be black) - Yellow/Green GROUND (Identified with the letter E, may be green) WARNING A round connection is compulsory 4

3.0 PRESETTINGS The DVIPRO100 features a preset on the rear panel to be made using dip switches: this refers to the function of input 2, which may be YCbCr or CV2 composite video. In particular: Dip-Switch 1 Input 2 ON CV2 OFF YCbCr WARNING This dip-switch must always be set with the machine OFF. 4.0 CONNECTIONS - connect the video inputs to the respective connectors of the DVIPRO100 - connect the destinations to the DVIPRO100 with the cables required. For the DVI output, the cable should not be more than 10 meters long and must be of good quality (Elpro DVI110MM type). - Connect any audio inputs and related outputs (unbalanced on RCA, balanced on terminal screw type). 5.0 BASIC FUNCTIONING At initial power-up, the unit is set with the default parameters, SVGA resolution and PC1 primary channel. Pressing the SELECT key on the front panel, it is possible to change cyclically from one output format to the next. Pressing one of the 5 channel keys, the input selected will be displayed. WARNING: when the advanced preset function is activated for the local keys (see advanced programming - Par ), the five channel keys will no longer activate the respective inputs but will recall the related preset. 5.1 PIP from keyboard When one of the two PC channels is displayed on the screen, it is possible to activate a PIP window referring to one of the video channels. To do this, simply press the keys of the current PC channel and that of the video channel to be activated at the same time. The window will be displayed to the bottom right. The following same operation will cause fading of the PIP. When a video channel is activated as PIP, the related led flashes briefly. 6
6.0 ADVANCED FUNCTIONING (REMOTE CONTROL) Using the remote control (or external interface), it is possible to access a set of programmings. The remote control provides a certain number of functions directly from key plus an OSD save menu and an advanced programming OSD menu. WARNING The remote control is of the self-learning type. In this case, DVIPRO100 does not permit resizing and positioning of the window beyond these limits; the unit connected on RS232 will reply NACK and will maintain the previous setting. To comply with the limits, follow the rule indicated below: dimension X of the screen width + posx of the window dimension Y of the screen height + posy of the window 14
7.0 RS232 / ETHERNET CONTROL All the programmings described above are available not only through the remote control but also through a remote channel: this may be a standard RS232 serial line or an optional Ethernet LAN that the PC will see as a virtual serial port via a specific software driver. Therefore in this manual, reference will be made to the remote channel as if to an RS232 serial line. The set of commands for driving the DVIPRO100 and for acquiring its status are described below. Elpro provides a standard software for remote control free of charge on the site. Data exchange via RS232 requires use of the following transmission standard: 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and speed of 9600 baud The command strings to be sent to the machine and the expected replies are described in the tables below. An await time for the reply of approximate 300 milliseconds should be calculated. The strings consist of ASCII or Hexadecimal characters and are always terminated with the CR (0D hex) character. The host answers ACK (06 hex) if the command is performed correctly or NACK (15 hex) if transmission errors are encountered. The physical connection must be made with a cable according to the attached diagram: TO DVIPRO100 15

7.1 Examples A number of examples are illustrated below to explain use of the serial commands. Example 1: Selection of the PC1 input The host must send the following sequence: B 0 4 followed by CR which in hexadecimal corresponds to: D The DVIPRO100 replies: ACK (06 hex) if the command has been performed correctly NACK (15 hex) if transmission errors have occurred Example 2: Save preset 3 The host must send the following sequence: S 3 followed by CR which in hexadecimal corresponds to: D The DVIPRO100 replies: ACK (06 hex) if the command has been performed correctly NACK (15 hex) if transmission errors have occurred Example 3: Setting of resize and position for primary window: The host must send the following sequence: X P followed by CR which in hexadecimal corresponds to: E E E E 0D The DVIPRO100 replies: ACK (06 hex) if the command has been performed correctly NACK (15 hex) if transmission errors have occurred In the case in which the parameters set do not comply with the rule of note 4 on page 14 the host replies NACK (15 hex) and leaves the parameters set with the previous configuration. For example: the parameters set previously are correct for an XGA resolution (1024x768) but for the output resolution of 800x600 they do not comply with the rule; therefore the host will answer NACK. 20
Example 4: Global or partial status request Global: the host must send the following sequence: D 0 followed by CR which in hexadecimal corresponds to: D The DVIPRO100 replies D (44 hex) followed by the entire string of status parameters (79 bytes) and by the CR (0D hex) character. Partial: the host must send the following sequence: D 2 followed by CR which in hexadecimal corresponds to: D The DVIPRO100 replies with the status of the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness parameters (10 bytes). For example, if default parameters have been set, the reply will be: D 8.0 Firmware upgrade The firmware upgrade of the DVIPRO100 is possible by the UPLOADER program. This program must be downloded from section Software download, and installed onto a PC / Win O.S. To perform the upgrade it s necessary to switch OFF the DVIPRO100 and connect it to a PC using the same cable described in page 15. Then move the dip-switches 2 and 3 in ON position. (See table below). Finally, turn ON the DVIPRO100. Dip-Switch 2 Dip-Switch 3 Stato ON ON UPGRADING FW OFF OFF Standard functionning. The upgrade mode is indicated by the input leds flashing. Done that, download the.hex file of the version to be installed and make the upgrading following the instruction of program UPLOADER. When the upgrading is terminated, it s necessary to restore the dipswitches 2 and 3 in OFF position, then power OFF and subsequently ON the unit. 21
