1 ATSSB Region XIV Fall Meeting Minutes Saturday, August 9, 2014 Prepared by Steven Rash, Region Secretary AGENDA: I. Call to order Meeting Called to Order at 8:04am by Charles Cabrera II. Old Business A. Minutes from Spring Meeting (Steve Rash) Minutes presented, motion to approve the minutes made by Joe Soliz, Seconded. Approved by voice acclimation. B. Treasurer s Report Nomination for Belinda Garza to be Region Treasurer by Steven Rash, Seconded by Roel Saenz. Approved by Voice Acclimation. $4, plus a check for $1, Treasure report motion made by Carl Melton, Seconded. Approved. a Region Clinician Willie Owens, Date is set for December 11 & 12, 2015 Motion made by Steven Rash to pay Willie Owens up to $3,000 Region 14 commission a Level 2 or 3 Band Piece by Willie Owens up to $3,000. Seconded. Approved by Acclimation Motion to raise entry fee for Region Band $1 by Jessie Rios for JH and HS, Seconded. Approved by Voice Acclimation Fee is to remain in effect for year and may be re-lowered next year. HS Entry is $11, Late $22, MS is $9, Late $18 C. Jr. High Report Middle school music edited with years on there. Music handed out, will be on website. D. Jazz Report (Jason Howard) Year D. Reminder that Just ahead be sure to use the instrument key part. Less trombones advancing to State. There is a vibraphone part for Just ahead. No Flugelhorn not accepted. Middle School, Saints Go Marching In, Ja-Da, Fly Me to the Moon Abersold Volume 100, 63, 65. Motion to change fees, HS Entry is $11, Late $22, MS is $9, Late $18 Motion made by Michael Williamson, Seconded by Larry Barnett, Approved by Acclimation. E. Mariachi Report (Jessie Rios and Gerald Ledesma ) Music picked by committee. Got together at TBA and passed out music, tryouts on December 17 th. Auditions in Kingsville starting at 1:30. Clinics on January 30 th /31 st in Falfurrias.
2 Motion to add a $30.00 School District Fee to handle music licensing fees by Roel Saenz, Seconded by Joe Soliz. Approved by voice acclimation. F. Area South Coordinator (Emerico Perez) Area will be January the 10 th, 2015 in Orange Grove. Year D for music. At area all 8 scales plus full etude cuts must be played. Larger panels, Flute, Clarinet, and Percussion will have 2 panels running concurrently for 1A-3A, and 4A. Be aware of holding room guidelines. Each scale must have a pause between them, no running straight through in one breath. Request to use region funds to buy food, state reimburses later. Motioned by Steven Rash, seconded by Mike Williamson. Procedures given for the process of changing auditions processes. Motion to purchase FileMaker Pro and Barcode Scanner made by Jason Howard, Seconded by Jessie Rios, approved by acclimation G. Web Site Coordinator (David Torch) Can also be searched through Google. III. Deadlines, Dates and Rules A. Entries not accepted without current ATSSB and TMEA numbers. Dues All TMEA and ATSSB dues MUST be paid by head directors before entering students into the audition process. (Sept. for All State Jazz; November for JH/HS) B. Region entry deadlines (using TMEA website for all entries except Mariachi) note that additional entries are not permitted on the day of the audition. 1. Region Jazz entries $11.00 per student HS. Date due is 8/30. Late entries accepted until 9/6 and student entry is $ If student qualifies to record a $20.00 fee needs to be paid in 14 days. Send a hard copy of Jazz Entries and Fees to: Jason Howard PO Box 830 Goliad, TX High School entries $11.00 and Jr. High entries $9.00 per student due 11/22. Late entries accepted until 11/29. Cut and pasted from Region 14 Hand Book II. DIRECTOR/JUDGE RESPONSIBILITIES-AUDITIONS B. All Full time Directors from each school are required to be in attendance to judge at both the HS and JR HIGH tryouts. If a Director is not present, a letter of reprimand can be issued to the Director s principal, superintendent, and board of trustees. Reminder: New rule that no pictures may be taken nor any audio or video recordings made in the room(s) where judges scores are displayed for directors to check. IV. OPS entry deadline (May 20 - see OPS guidelines or March Newsletter OPS Column). VI. Remind them that in jazz auditions when recordings are made for advancing to Area, add a Track 5 with a script to be read by the recording monitor or engineer stating the instrument, the student name and school. Remember to review the C&CR Rules, particularly for sightreading! Rule change: wind instrument amplification rule modified. Soloist and small ensembles only! Area Marching Contest: Inclement weather is now exactly the same as State Marching Contest. If weather affects finals, prelims shall stand. Students in class piano will now be allowed to perform Class 3 Solo piano at Solo and Ensemble. Recommendations to change judges sheets verbiage. Updated to be more modern, ie difficulty of drill to read suitability and demand of drill. Several changes of difficulty to demand. Effective use of auxiliary units when present. Appearance of uniforms to general appearance. Frequency of movement and difficulty of drill to demand and execution of drill while playing and moving Reminder about Safety Training it is available now. All staff members, including guard instructors or sectionals. Professional Acknowledgement Form must be signed and on file. When you register for marching contest click a box that says that I certify licensing rights of all music.
