2 Do you want to get a jump start on your future? Well come join us at GP Outreach and learn what the AIP can do for you! It s never too late to sign up and never too late to plan for your future. Be on the look out for the next round of G.P. Outreach Sign Up Sheets on your unit. If you miss the Sign Up Sheet please send a communication to Mr. Washington to be added to the list. Here s what a G.P. Committee member has to say I m 22 years old and I have been incarcerated for the last 63 months. I chose to live a destructive life style and with that, came its consequences. Learning the hard way is the only way someone like me would ever learn. I have many regrets; I hurt a lot of people, even the people that are the closest to me. I was selfish and I was not aware of the ripple effects of my actions. I want something better for me for once, instead of just time inside a fence. To have that life, I realized that I needed help with my addiction and criminality. I chose to participate in the AIP program in PRCF. I was very nervous and unsure of what the program was all about, it s expectations and ultimately if I was capable of completing it. It s been an experience unlike anything I ve had before. In the few months that I ve been here I have learned more about myself, my beliefs, thoughts and actions that I wasn t aware of before. It s a constant focus on oneself. I m learning new ways of approaching others and myself in a positive way that will help me in my path to success. I don t have all the answers, but I know and I am experiencing there is true discovery here in this program. I recommend if you re eligible and you have a willingness to try a new way of thinking and behavior, come try this program for yourself. 3 Visitors Kiosk Your visitors can use the kiosk located in the Administration building to deposit funds to your inmate prepaid communications account, your trust & commissary account, and even schedule video visits from the lobby or the comfort of their home. When submitting an inmate communication for the various legal forms available from administration you will need to include the proper code to the particular form needed. You can find these codes on the legal form list located on the bulletin boards in the mudrooms. Flat-Rate boxes are available through property (box B160). The boxes are good for unlimited weight domestically. Cost is $6-$18 depending on size and includes a Priority Mail tracking number. Art Tubes are also available through property. These triangular boxes allow large artwork to be rolled, making them less likely to be damaged during handling. Cost is generally $6-$7 and includes a Priority Mail tracking number. Unit headphones/radios The headphones and radios available on the units for inmates to checkout will soon only be available to those inmates who are indigent. 5 Oregon Kate Brown, Governor Oregon Department of Corrections Office of the Director 2575 Center Street NE Salem, OR Date: July 7, 2015 To: From: Subject: All DOC Adults in Custody Colette S. Peters, Director Kim Brockamp, Deputy Director Summer Safety Summer is here and with it comes the potential for more time outdoors, more activities, and more visits from friends and loved ones. We encourage families to play an active role in your lives during incarceration. Family support is important. When you remain connected, you will be better prepared and motivated to return home and make positive changes. It is also our responsibility to ensure your safety, as well as the safety of our staff, communities, and facility visitors. We are tirelessly committed to security at each of our facilities. It is for security reasons that visitors are not allowed to bring any personal items, gifts, illegal contraband, weapons, or cell phones into the facility. Attempting to pass any unapproved items through security, even if accidentally, is prohibited and will result in immediate consequences. It may also result in indefinite suspension of visiting privileges for you and your visitor. Another illegal activity worthy of mentioning, given recent incidents in Oregon and across the country, is escaping. We know most of you understand the importance of serving your time entirely. We also know some of you may be tempted to leave before being released. Please remember, if you make this poor decision, you will most certainly receive additional convictions. This will add more time to your sentence. The last five individuals who escaped averaged 17 months of additional time. While we understand some of these rules may be difficult for you and your visitors, it is our responsibility to keep you, our staff, and visitors safe. These strict safety procedures are very important and are just one of the many ways we maintain a safe and secure environment. Please safely enjoy the extra opportunities that the summer brings.
6 ***Microwaves*** Inmates: Please do not put used peanut butter containers in the microwaves as a coffee cups. The tin foil on the upper lids are causing arcs that are burning up the microwaves. Additionally, do not place anything including Instant Coffee and Food Canteen packets that have foil in the packaging in the microwaves. Non proper usage and breakage of the microwaves will cause delays in replacements due to ordering and paying for such said items. Ms. Fuzi, can you place this information in the inmate newsletter on Friday. Staff, please do not allow the inmate population to utilize microwaves not in their designated area s for accountability reasons. Thank you ***Canteen Turn In*** Canteen order forms will need to be turned in on Monday night again, July 20 th in order to receive canteen the following week.
