1 Eastern Mediterranean Geopolitical Review (EMGR) Writing Guidelines Submissions EMGR accepts high quality submissions of original scholarly articles, by prominent and emerging scholars and independent researchers, that address contemporary and historical questions or emerging issues, which pertain to the geopolitical affairs of the Eastern Mediterranean and their implications on the Middle East as well as on European and global affairs. Contributions that were published before, in full or in part, or have been submitted for publication to other journals will not be accepted. Areas of interest EMGR focuses on the examination and analysis of perspectives and themes that relate to a wide range of disciplines and fields such as geopolitics, international relations, diplomacy, international law, defence and security, intelligence, history, conflict analysis, political geography, economics, energy, and other related areas. Editorial Policy The editors accept no responsibility over the content of the submissions or the opinions expressed in the contributions. EMGR will not publish comments or arguments that are offensive to individuals, groups, religions, moral values, etc. Essays The editors may accept the publication of a limited number of non-scholarly essays by individuals with special expertise or knowledge, such as ministers, government officials, ambassadors and other professionals, the contributions of whom offer an analytical inside to subjects of special interest. The contributions must be original (unpublished) short and medium-size essays between 1500 and 4000 words. Scholarly articles EMGR accepts either by invitation or by an open call for papers original research articles that examine unique subjects of scholarly interest. The contributions must include an abstract of approximately words and an article, in well-written English, of 6000 to words including footnotes. After an internal editorial review of the submissions by the Editorial Team, the manuscripts will be submitted to double blind peer reviewing by one or two academic experts with specialised knowledge in the area of the submitted article. [1]
2 Submission guidelines Submissions of essays or articles, with personal details (name, title, brief academic or professional position, ), may be sent electronically as a Word attachment to the Editor at savvides.p@unic.ac.cy. It is preferable to use Helvetica or Arial, 12 points and line spacing 1.5. Quotations should be indicated with double quotation marks except in longer quotations of over 30 words that should be presented as a separte block of text, 11 points and line spacing 1, without quotation marks. Each initial reference of a source in a footnote should be provided in full, while all following references of the same source should be presented in a shortened version [see following pages 3-5]. Avoid using pp. and p. for the reference of page(s) as well as abbreviations such as op. cit. and ibid. Pages in a footnote refer to the page-size of an article or a chapter in a source while the page(s) in parenthesis refer to the exact position of the reference in the text. The use of common abbreviations (such as EE, NATO, USSR, UK, etc.) do not need an explanation throughout the text (first or subsequent use); less-known or specialised abbreviations (such as KFOR, SLBM, AIFV, etc.) should be explained in parenthesis in their first use in the text. The writing style of a manuscript should be consistent throughout the text, such as in the use of government positions (Foreign Minister or foreign minister), descriptions (Turkish Air Force or Turkish air force), etc. Citation system The system used for the footnotes is founded on the Chicago Manual of Style with slight and consistent modifications for clarity. It must be noted that the use of main foreign language sources (books), such as Greek and Turkish, should include the English translation of the original title in brackets. The titles of other types of foreign language sources (newspapers, magazines, internet sources, etc.) should be presented in their English language translation followed by the language of the source in brackets (e.g. [in Turkish]).
