1 PRE- AUDITION INFORMATION Pre-Auditions will be held on Friday, June 30 th from 6:00 PM 8:00 PM at Live Out Loud Studios (15116 Lee Rd. Suite 510, ). Please to schedule an audition time. Video Audition is acceptable ONLY if your child is unable to attend preauditions. Video must be submitted to by Tuesday, June 25, Callbacks All information regarding callbacks will be communicated to performers via parent . EXPECTATIONS Before your child decides to audition, please make sure that they are ready to commit to the show and to the expectations required of all performers. All performers must be on time for scheduled audition time. All performers must show energy and excitement during auditions. (GIVE US YOUR BEST) All performers must regularly attend theater class during summer camp. All performers must commit some time outside of camp hours to become familiar with their script. 2 CHARACTER BREAKDOWN YOUNG SIMBA The protagonist of the story is an adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive, but after his father Mufasa's death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny. SIMBA Grows from a cub to lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar. YOUNG NALA A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind. NALA Grows from a cub to a lioness before she confronts Scar. MUFASA the strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Mufasa should command respect onstage and also show tenderness with his son, Simba. RAFIKI A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. He is an omniscient character, evincing an air of mystery ZAZU The anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty. SCAR The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands. TIMON An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo. Timon is one of the funniest characters in the show PUMBAA A kindhearted, sensitive warthog who enjoys his simple life of grubs and relaxation. SARABI A featured lioness, Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother. SARAFINA A featured lioness and Nala's mother. SHENZI One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself with Banzai and Ed. BANZAI A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy ED The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. 3 LIONESSES/DANCERS The fierce Dancers of the Pridelands and featured in "The Lioness Hunt," "The Mourning," and "Shadowland ENSEMBLE The ensemble plays various inhabitants of the Pridelands CHARACTERS (Please select one character and be prepared to deliver all 3 lines during your audition) Young Simba (Looking out over the edge of the rock) My Dad just showed me the whole kingdom, {greedily} and I'm going to rule it all. Heh heh. {Bordering on crying, voice cracks} I was just trying to be brave like you. {Jumps back, crying} There was a stampede and he tried to save me It was an accident, I I didn't mean for it to happen.. {Sniffing} What am I gonna do? Simba No, I'm not the king. Maybe I was gonna be. But, that was a long time ago. {Angry} Listen! You think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through. This kingdom is no longer yours. Step down, Scar. Either step down or fight. Young Nala (Whisper) Right. So how are we gonna ditch the dodo? Yeah. 4 Nala Wait til everybody finds out you've been here all this time. And your mother what will she think? It's like you're back from the dead. You don't know how much this will mean to everyone. {Pained expression} What it means to me. I've really missed you. Everything's destroyed. There's no food, no water. Simba, if you don't do something soon, everyone will starve. Mufasa You could have been killed. You deliberately disobeyed me. And what's worse,- you put Nala in danger I'm only brave when I have to be. Simba... being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble. Simba,... Let me tell you something that my father told me... Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. Rafiki We would like to take a few moments to get you acquainted with the story of Simba. And now, it is time. The question is: whooo... are you? Zazu Oh, just look at you two. Little seeds of romance blossoming in the savannah. Your parents will be thrilled what with your destined to be married and all. 5 (Sing) Nobody knows The trouble I've seen Nobody knows My sorrow... Scar (Sarcastically overjoyed) Why! If it isn't my big brother descending from on high to mingle with the commoners Well, I was first in line,... until the little hairball was born. Mufasa's death was a terrible tragedy; but to lose Simba as well. For me, it is a deep personal loss. And so it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne. Yet, out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era {The hyenas start emerging) in which lion and hyena come together, in a great and glorious future Timone Pumbaa, are you nuts? You're talking about a lion! Lions eat guys like us! Amateur. Lie down before you hurt yourself. It's You got to put your past behind you. Look, kid. Bad things happen, and you can't do anything about it, right? Nothing-- he's at the top of the food chain! Ahhhhhhha ha haaa! The food cha-haain! {Realizing his joke flopped} Ah heh-- Ahem. So, where you from Pumbaa Hey, Timon. It's just a little lion. Look at him. He's so cute, and all alone! Can we keep him? 6 Sarabi Yes, Scar? (Calmly) Scar, there is no food. The herds have moved on. {Delighted} Simba? You're alive? {Confused} How can that be? Sarafina It s over. There is nothing left. We have only one choice. We must leave Pride Rock. We re tired of you telling us what to do. Shenzi Whoa, whoa, wait wait wait... I know you.{looking at Simba} Do you know what we do to kings who step out of their kingdom? Oh wait, wait, wait. I got one, I got one. Make mine a cub sandwich. Whatcha think? {Peals of uncontrollable laughter.) Banzi Yeaaaah! We could have whatever's... lion around! Get it? Lion around! {laughs} We got a bone to pick with you.
