1 Volume 27/Issue 2 SEE DAI DOO SOCIETY Chinatown Parade By Thomas Ching January 25, 2014 Spring/Summer At 12 Noon we met at the meeting hall to blow up over 200 balloons which fit into 12 large trash bags. Designs were drawn on the balloons and we discovered some creative artists amongst our SDDS members. We readied the SDDS banner and pole, got all the energy bars, candy (over 1000 pieces) and baskets together and made preparations for the refreshments to be served after the parade. At 2:30 PM- members start arriving at hall. After some initial photos, we walked to capitol grounds to get in line for parade at 3 PM. Time waiting in line was spent picture taking, socializing with other members, politicians and other organizations 52 members signed up for the parade and about 50 showed up, including 15 children. We had a marcher that was 92 years old and she kept up to the brisk pace of the parade. We started at 3:45 PM and we were given the 47 th parade position out of over 70 positions. During the parade, our members and kids passed out balloons, pens and candy. We also greeted fellow members, family and friends that were in the parade crowd. At 4:30 PM we got to River St, took our group picture and returned to SDDS meeting hall at around 5:00 PM. We returned earlier than anticipated and the kitchen crew had to hustle to get the food out in time. We had Jai and rice, chicken with cake noodles, Spam musubi, Hot Dogs, juice and hot tea. The president gave out leesee to the 12 lucky children present. Volunteers: Riley and Dolores, Marsha, Samantha, Jade, Cynthia, Rena, James and Norma. John, Milton, Dwayne, Robert, Tom and Judy and many others. Dwayne and Robert carried our banner the entire parade. Donors: Mrs Lyau (candy), and TECO for the Lighted Horse lanterns. We all had a great time and came in under budget. Chinatown Parade January 25, 2014 Officers: Robert K. C. Ching, President Wesley Fong, Vice President Darrren S.P. Chun, Treasurer Jeanette BK Ing N.
