2 Production Team Director: Sherryl-Lee Secomb Sherryl-Lee has worked constantly in community theatre for over thirty years, creating roles in everything from farce, concert performances, plays and large scale musical theatre including some of her favourite roles Fiddler on the Roof (Golde, Dir. Alec Raymond), West Side Story (Anita, Dir. Jack Bradford), Guys & Dolls (Miss Adelaide, Dir. Alec Raymond), Leonard Bernstein s MASS - Australian Premiere (Stage Cast, Dir. Guiseppe Sorbello, QPAC), Anything Goes (Reno Sweeney, Dir. Alec Raymond) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (Mrs Meers, Dir. Johanna Toia). Directing credits include Carousel, Miss Saigon (Assistant Director), The Phantom of the Opera (Assistant Director), The Phantom of the Opera (a production which received the 2015 Australia Day Award for Ipswich City s Best Event Citywide) and, most recently, Savoyards 2015 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying for which she also designed the set. This production received 4 Del Arte Charts recognitions including Favourite Set. Sherryl-Lee is the Creator and Editor of Musical Director: Geoffrey Secomb Geoff is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with nearly 40 years of experience in orchestral and theatre performance. Performance highlights include 5 years with QYSO (4 as Principal Clarinet), Queensland Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Theatre Orchestra, and playing for many professional theatre productions (including the 1993 National production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying). Geoff was Conductor of the award winning IMTC production of The Phantom of the Opera. Also a regular fixture in the orchestra pit as a player for many community theatre productions, his credits as Musical Director include 42 Street, Anything Goes (for which he arranged the score in 1986), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Sweeney Todd, Miss Saigon, The Pirates of Penzance, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Savoyards 2015 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Choreographer: Desney Toia-Sinapati With formal training in Jazz, tap, classical (Sue Harvey Academy of Modern Stage Dance) and Polynesian dance (Isles of the Pacific Polynesian Dance Troupe) Desney is no stranger to the Savoyards stage. Her debut at the age of six saw her cartwheeling across the stage as a little girl in the 1986 production of Showboat. Since then she has performed in many shows with performance credits including roles in Nunsense (Sister Mary Leo), Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Desney s choreographic credits include regional work with the Lockyer Regional Performing Arts (Music Man and Bye Bye Birdie), The Sound of Music (Choreographer/Assistant Director, Savoyards), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Speed Tap Routine), Ensemble Choreographer for the 2014 Ipswich Musical Theatre Company production of The Phantom of the Opera, winner of the 2015 Australia Day Award for Best Community Event in Ipswich and Savoyards 2015 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

3 About Savoyards Savoyards is the oldest continuously running musical theatre company in Brisbane. From our first performance of The Mikado in November, 1961 to our most recent productions, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (2015) and Legally Blonde (2016), Savoyards has produced at least two major musical theatre shows every year. We are a community based (amateur) company governed and managed completely by volunteers and we enjoy the generosity of many professionals who offer their services at little or no cost simply to encourage theatre in Brisbane. These professionals provide us with everything from management and promotions to the many areas of theatre production. Whilst we are not a training organisation, the skills of our many technical volunteers allows us to provide on the job experience for many technical theatre students. We rehearse at the Imperial Playhouse, Wynnum State High School, Peel Street, Manly and perform in the luxurious theatre of the Iona Performing Arts Complex, 85 North Road, Lindum. Successful cast members pay a performance fee of $50 each to participate in one of our shows. Rehearsal materials and costumes are provided and all participants are covered by our Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance. Cast members and volunteers enjoy a great community environment, social events, and the opportunity to improve their theatre skills. About Nice Work If You Can Get It Set in the 1920s, Nice Work If You Can Get It is the story of charming and wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter, who meets rough female bootlegger Billie Bendix the weekend of his wedding. Jimmy, who has been married three (or is it four?) times before, is preparing to marry Eileen Evergreen, a self-obsessed modern dancer. Thinking Jimmy and Eileen will be out of town, Billie and her gang hide cases of alcohol in the basement of Jimmy's Long Island mansion. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her prohibitionist family show up at the mansion for the wedding, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing hijinks galore. Winner of 2 Tony Awards for Featured Actor and Featured Actress (2012) Winner of 3 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Book (2012) This new production premiered on Broadway in 2012, starring Matthew Broderick and Kelli O Hara. The Australian premiere was produced by The Production Company, Melbourne in August, This production is the Australian amateur premiere.

4 We are seeking male and female ADULT performers. This is not a youth theatre production. The minimum age is 16 years old. IMPORTANT: Please subscribe to the Nice Work audition event on the Savoyards facebook page to get lots of extra information and research material for your audition. Characters DO NOT PRE CAST YOURSELF: Prepare your best effort, turn up and give us everything you ve got. Never assume anything. You might just get a surprise. DANCE CALL NOTE: If you wish to be considered for Chorus Girls/Vice Squad, you will be required to attend the group dance call as well as your private audition. DANCE AUDITION VIDEO CLIPS: Video clips of the dance section of your audition will be available to view online prior to audition weekend. This allows you to become familiar with the section (purely for your confidence). The choreographer will go through it with you at your audition. JIMMY WINTER (male) Character notes: A wealthy and handsome playboy, dripping with charm and charisma. Special requirements: Standard American accent. Should be able to whistle. Stage age: Late 20 s, 30 s. Voice Range: Bb to G (almost 2 octaves) with extension to high Bb (falsetto acceptable). Dance Requirements: Strong jazz; tap background an advantage but not essential. BILLIE BENDIX (female) Character notes: A tough, feisty and street-wise young woman. Partners in rum-running with Cookie and Duke. Special requirements: Standard American accent. Should be able to whistle. Stage age: Mid 20 s, 30 s Voice Range: G# to D# (1.5 octaves). Strong musical theatre technique. Dance Requirements: Strong jazz; tap background an advantage but not essential. COOKIE McGEE (male) Character notes: A fast-talking, wise-cracking bootlegger. Special requirements: Standard American Accent (New York). Strong character actor. Stage age: Mid 40 s 60 s. Voice Range: Bb to F# (1.5 octaves). Falsetto high Bb required.

5 EILEEN EVERGREEN (female) Character notes: Completely self-centred, she is the self-proclaimed finest interpreter of modern dance in the world. Special requirements: Standard American Accent. DUKE MAHONEY (male) Character notes: Cookie s sidekick. Not the brightest guy around. Special requirements: Standard American accent (New York). Stage age: 20 s to 40 s. Voice Range: Bb to E (1.5 octaves). SENATOR MAX EVERGREEN (male) Character notes: Eileen s father. A humourless career politician. Serious, stern, judgmental. 7 Audition Format - Private Character Auditions June By appointment All Principal Characters (not chorus girls/vice squad) 15 minute private individual audition for vocals and script. Present approximately 32 bars of a song from the period of the show (eg. Irving Berlin, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern). Songs from the show are permitted. Bring sheet music only. Piano accompanist is provided. Present the script excerpt for your preferred character, available for download on registration of audition. An actor is provided to read against you. Choreographer will take you through some movement (video of routines will be available to you when you register to give you confidence at your audition). Bring a colour headshot (minimum size 10cm X 15 cm). This is non-returnable. Bring your audition form, completed in full and listing ALL clashes with the show calendar listed in this document. Dance Call Sunday, 19 June 2pm 4pm Chorus Girls and Vice Squad. Registration required. Wear appropriate dance gear. Bring jazz, tap and chorus shoes if you have them (do not purchase specifically for this audition whatever you ve got will be fine). Arrive by 1:45pm to receive number allocation. If you are only auditioning for Chorus girl/vice Squad (not doing a character audition) you will do a group vocal audition. No preparation is required. You will be taught something at this audition.
