2 Production Team Director: Kay Halford The circle of Kay s theatrical life is now complete as she returns to her grass roots. She first cut her teeth in 1968 with Savoyards and continued in the chorus of numerous shows graduating to minor comedy roles and to lead roles in several musical productions, such as Fiona Salad Days, Ciboletta Night in Venice, Meg Brigadoon, Gretal White Horse Inn, Nellie South Pacific and Daisy The Dollar Princess. Kay also played several dramatic and comedy lead roles with, Mercury, Harlequin and Independent Theatre Productions. While her professional career took her away from her love of theatre for almost 30 years, she did get the opportunity to perform in a number of different events including Warana concerts and the Queensland Police Variety Concerts. In 2004 she joined Sunnybank Theatre Group to play Clara Soppitt in When We Are Married. Kay returned to the ensembles in Nunsense, Annie Get Your Gun, Brigadoon, and again played lead roles Sally Adams Call Me Madam The Three Plants Little Shop of Horrors and Sister Hubert Nuncrackers. Kay s love of theatre has not only extended to treading the boards, she directed Last Tango in Little Grimley and assisted in the direction of Rebecca. She also has a keen interest in the technical side of theatre and has assisted in set construction, prop making, lighting and sound engineering and puppeteering. Kay was also President of the Sunnybank Theatre Group for 2years. In 2013 she played the part of Big Beat in Dinkum Assorted at Beenleigh Theatre Group. Musical Director: Warryn James Annie will be Warryn s 16 th production with Savoyards and his second in the role of musical director, having done Oliver! in Some of his favourite on-stage roles have included Alf (My Fair Lady), Max (The Sound of Music), Moonface Martin (Anything Goes), Andre in Savoyards Queensland amateur theatre production of The Phantom of the Opera and the Major General in The Pirates of Penzance. Warryn has also played keyboards in Miss Saigon, Paris and The Boy from Oz. Warryn s musical training included classical piano study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He graduated from Kelvin Grove C.A.E. as a secondary music teacher and went on to be musical director for twelve high school productions. Warryn left teaching in 1987 to work as a freelance piano vocalist for almost 20 years including 18 years at the Brisbane Hilton as resident pianist. In 2007 Warryn returned to music education and is currently employed as a primary music specialist and choral conductor. Choreographer: Kaitlin Bell Kaitlin Bell is a choreographer, dance educator and journalist working in Brisbane. After falling in love with dance while still in preschool, Kaitlin studied a variety of dance styles and in 2007 she completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries in Dance, with Distinction, from the Queensland University of Technology. With a passion for performing from a young age, Kaitlin has danced with several notable institutions, such as the Queensland Ballet and the Queensland Pops Orchestra. She has also appeared in several TV shows and commercials, and performed in Michael Jackson s HIStory tour. Kaitlin also enthusiastically dedicates her time to several community theatre projects, as both choreographer and performer. She spent 2008 on tour performing in the Queensland Arts Council shows, Be The Beat and Dance In Aus. Working as a freelance dance teacher and choreographer, Kaitlin has created choreography across a range of dance genres for students of schools and private dance studios. She has also enjoyed choreographing for a variety of school, community and professional arts festivals. Kaitlin s credits with Savoyards include Singin In The Rain (2006), Cabaret (2007), The Boy From Oz (2009), Paris (2009, Choreographer), 42 nd Street (2010, Dance Captain/Dianne), Act One, 50 th Anniversary Concert (2011, Choreographer/Dancer) My Fair Lady (2011, Choreographer) and Anything Goes (2012, Angel).

3 About Savoyards Savoyards is the oldest continuously running musical theatre company in Brisbane. From our first performance of The Mikado in November, 1961 to our most recent productions, The Phantom of the Opera (Queensland Premiere) and The Pirates of Penzance [2013 SEASON], Savoyards has produced two major musical theatre shows every year. We are a community based (amateur) company governed and managed completely by volunteers and we enjoy the generosity of many professionals who offer their services at little or no cost simply to encourage theatre in Brisbane. These professionals provide us with everything from management and promotions to the many areas of theatre production. Whilst we are not a training organisation, the experience of our many technical volunteers allows us to provide on the job experience for many technical theatre students. We rehearse at the Imperial Playhouse, Wynnum State High School, Peel Street, Manly and perform in the luxurious theatre of the Iona Performing Arts Complex, 85 North Road, Lindum. Cast members pay a performance fee of $50 each to participate in one of our shows. Rehearsal materials and costumes are provided and all participants are covered by our Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance. Cast members and volunteers enjoy a great community environment, social events, and the opportunity to improve their theatre skills. About Annie Act 1. The year is The scene opens on the New York Municipal Girls Orphanage, where we meet several orphan girls and Annie, an optimistic redhead who dreams of finding her parents. They left her on the orphanage doorstep together with a note and half a locket 11 years ago. An opportune visit from Mr Bundles, the laundryman, sees Annie escape in the laundry basket. As she attempts to find her parents on the streets of NYC, she meets many colourful characters and adopts a friendly stray dog she names Sandy. However, she is soon caught by Lt. Ward, a policeman, who takes her back to the orphanage and the dreadful Miss Hannigan, the mean matron who hates children and seems to always be suffering from a hangover. Billionaire Oliver Warbucks assistant, Grace Farrell, visits the orphanage looking for an orphan to share the Christmas holidays at his mansion. Annie is chosen much to the reluctance of Miss Hannigan. Warbucks staff welcomes Annie to their immaculate home, and while Oliver Warbucks is not too happy the orphan is not a boy, eventually the two quickly hit it off and he agrees to help her find her parents. Act 2 The scene opens with Annie appearing on a radio show where Warbucks announces that he is offering $50,000 to the couple who can prove they are her parents. Miss Hannigan s crook of a brother, Rooster, and his ditzy girlfriend, Lily St Regis, hatch a plan to pretend to be Annie s parents. Warbuck takes Annie to Washington, D.C., where she requests to meet the optimistic President Franklin D Roosevelt. Once back home, Warbucks announces he would like to adopt her. They decide to throw a Christmas party, and Annie wants to invite Miss Hannigan and the orphans. Judge Brandeis attends at the Mansion to officiate the adoption proceedings, but is interrupted by Mr and Mrs Mudge (Rooster and Lily in disguise). Even though they know about Annie s note and locket (thanks to insider information from Miss Hannigan), Warbucks requests that she be allowed to stay one more night for the Christmas party, before they take Annie home to their supposed pig farm in New Jersey. Warbucks receives a surprise visit from Roosevelt who announces that the FBI has discovered that Annie's parents died when she was a baby. Rooster, Lily and Miss Hannigan are arrested, and Annie is officially adopted by Warbucks.

6 Audition Requirements We are seeking male and female performers: Female child performers and male and female adult performers. Minimum age is 7 years. American accents are required for all cast members except Drake the English butler and Lt Ward the Irish police officer. Savoyards does not pre cast and all roles are open for audition. Adult Principal auditions By appointment only; individual 15 minute private sessions. Prepare a brief song from legit musical theatre [in the style of this show]. No pop/rock songs but can sing songs from Annie. Bring sheet music in correct key. Piano accompaniment ONLY (accompanist supplied). No ipods or CD backing tracks. Become familiar with script excerpt available to you when you register for auditions. Colour headshot (minimum size 10cm X 15 cm). Non returnable. 7 Children s Auditions - Round Two After the completion of Round One, a selection will be made and those children will be notified of their requirement for Round Two. Dressed in suitable dance attire. Comfortable clothes [no denim/jeans]. Gym/fitness gear is acceptable. No skirts. Start time includes only a basic warm up. Please arrive earlier to warm up properly. Please bring all appropriate dance shoes, including jazz flats if you have them. Otherwise ballet shoes, sneakers or bare feet. There will be a group singing audition after the dance call. Any dancers wishing to audition for principal roles must do principal audition as listed. No parents/guardians permitted in audition space. What to do next 1. CHECK THE ANNIE CALENDAR It s no use auditioning if you can t make rehearsals or performances. Please check the Annie Calendar for conflicts. Some absence in rehearsals can be accommodated but this must be recorded on your audition form to allow us to prepare rehearsal schedules productively.
