7 Celebrating 25 years of SEALL and the Skye Festival SEALL was born from the very positive community response to a pilot programme of events in the early 1990s. A committee was set up (of course!) and SEALL s first event was on 11 May In 1992 the First Skye Festival was held in conjunction with the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Short Courses, who needed a marquee for the fiddle and stepdance with Alastair Fraser, Buddy MacMaster and Harvey Beaton - long before the new buildings around the Campus today. The tent was free in the evenings - so we filled it with 14 nights of events. After 18 years we had a break - remember all of this is managed voluntarily - but in 2014 SEALL resurrected the Skye Festival as a two month programme of events. We will celebrate on Wednesday, 24 August at the Blazin' Fiddles Concert. A few highlights for SEALL and the Skye Festival: * Promoted 1,188 events * sold approximately 75,000 tickets in 25 years * SEALL at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is Venue of the Year * Had a Tartan designed for us! Bha SEALL stèidhichte air beachdan fàbharach sa choimhearsnachd air prògram thachartasan aig deireadh nan 80an is toiseach nan 90an. Chaidh (dè eile ach...) comataidh a chur air bhonn agus chùm SEALL a' chiad thachartas air 11 An Cèitean Chaidh ciad Fhèis an Eilein a chur air chois an com-pàirteachas le Cùrsaichean Goirid an t-sabhail Mhòir, aig an robh feum air teanta mòr airson na clasaichean fìdhleireachd is dannsa le Alasdair Friseal, Buddy MacMhaighstir agus Harvey Peutan - fada mus deach na togalaichean ùra spaideil a thogail. Cha robh duine sam bith a' cur an teanta gu feum air an oidhche mar sin lìon sinn e le cola-deug làn thachartasan. Bha sinn feumach air beagan fois an dèidh 18 bliadhna - cuimhnich gu bheil seo air a chur air dòigh gu saor-thoileach - ach ann an 2014 bheothaich SEALL Fèis an Eilein a-rithist le prògram thachartasan fad dà mhìos. Comharraichidh sinn seo Diciadain, 24 An Lùnastal aig cuirm le Blazin' Fiddles Mòran taing dhuibh uile! Rubha Phoil, Armadale Rubha Phoil, above Armadale Pier Visit the Eco-forest gardens. Pier Stores ~ Sleat's newest shop, stocking Highland Wholefoods and Fair Trade products, and fresh bread from Mallaig. Plus speciality teas from The Magic Tea-pot, locally grown herbs, CDs, gifts and quirky bits & bobs! Camping / Campadh There is also small campsite at Rubha Phoil. Please contact the Festival office about other wildcamping and overnight parking for campervans. Fèis an Eilein Page 7 The Skye Festival
