Course Description: A guided workshop for writing and arranging music for choral ensembles with instruction in writing keyboard and instrumental accompaniments. Each Program Learning Outcome (PLO) fulfills a portion of the IBCS Mission. Each Course Learning Objective (CLO) fulfills specific PLOs. Each Student Learning Objective (SLO) and Course Assignment fulfills a specific CLO. Evaluate music from a broad-based knowledge of musical style, music literature, music history, and music theory. knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of various types of choral ensembles, including unison, two-part, SATB, SAB, TTBB, and SSAA. The successful student will therefore complete brief analysis assignments in which he/she will appropriately identify characteristics of various types of choral ensembles. The due dates will be assigned on the course schedule. Demonstrate technical fluency, expressiveness, and professionalism in musical performance. skill in arranging and adapting music for various choral ensembles. The successful student will therefore complete short arranging projects for various choral ensembles. The due dates will be assigned on the course schedule. Demonstrate the gifts and skills essential to effective local church leadership, especially the effective communication of Biblical truth. the ability to create an original SATB arrangement for use in a worship service. The successful student will therefore, for the semester project, compose an original SATB arrangement. The due date will be assigned on the course schedule. Unless specifically directed to do otherwise by your individual instructor, please use these resources when writing all papers. Both of the links below are the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL). o Undergraduate: MLA Formatting and Style Guide o Graduate: Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition Course Pre- and Co-Requisites MU 222 Music Theory 4 and MU 301 Introduction to Computer Music Notation, or consent of instructor Bibliography Read, Gardner. Music Notation. 2 nd edition. New York: Taplinger Publishing Company, Late Work Late work may be penalized. Any work missed because of an absence must be made up upon the student s return to class. The instructor is under no obligation to accept any late work. The instructor may alter due dates at his/her discretion. Tardiness and Absences Students who are tardy to class will receive demerits. Being tardy three times will equal one absence. Being tardy to class by more than fifteen minutes will be considered an absence. The student is permitted one absence for each credit hour without penalty. Each additional absence may reduce the student s final course grade by 2%. Being absent 25% or more of the classes will result in the loss of credit for the course.
