9 Your Bachelor of Music experience: Music Performance, Composition and Musicology/Ethnomusicology Music Performance is a flexible program tailored to meet your musical interests, skills and career pathways. The specialisation centres on the study of a chosen instrument to develop the professional level skills expected of a performing artist. Music Performance students specialise in, or work across areas as diverse as solo, chamber music, orchestral, early music and new music settings.
10 Jazz & Improvisation Jazz & Improvisation balances skills with creativity to encourage the development of the personal voice and advanced technical skills through contemporary performance practice and creation of original compositions. This specialisation embraces studiointensive pedagogy across jazz, world music, pop, rock, folk, indie, funk, experimental, electronica, big band, crossover music, a cappella and multimedia.
11 Interactive Composition Interactive Composition focuses on commercially driven cross-art modes of composition and may include writing music for events, film, television, animation, theatre, music theatre, dance, pop song, advertising, video gaming, online, installation art, sound design and a range of new media platforms.

Diploma of Music Enables you to study music performance or pursue your interest in music studies and gain a music qualification while completing an undergraduate degree in another field. Work alongside Bachelor of Music students, building valuable friendships and networks in a challenging musical environment. Applications for the Diploma program close at the end of January and auditions (only required for performance subjects) are held in February before classes commence in Semester 1. Keep up your musical training and keep your options open for graduate musical study in the Master of Music (Performance Teaching).
20 Other options? Music as Breadth Enjoy music while completing studies in another degree (ie. Commerce, Biomedicine, Science, Arts or Environments) Subjects cater for the complete beginner to the advanced musician; there is a music breadth subject option for every student. Options include: Practical Ensembles: ranging from Orchestra, Big Band and Wind Symphony, to African Music and Dance, Gamelan and Shakuhachi, and many more choral and instrumental ensembles Music Studies: developing your academic knowledge of music across music language and the historical, social and cultural contexts of music Breadth Tracks: in non-western music, music language and composition, music culture and context and popular music
21 BMus Admissions Steps Aug-Sept VTAC applications open 9am, Monday 1 August Apply via VTAC by closing date, 28 September Submit the supplementary form, on the User account page on the VTAC site Pay the MCM Application fee Can apply for more than one area of specialisation Oct-Nov The MCM will contact you with your audition time after timely applications close Attend audition (late November early December) Dec-Jan Prior to the release of your VCE results you will receive an advisory letter from MCM Make any changes to your VTAC preferences during Change of Preference Accept offer
