3 1.ABSTRACT The NJU26125 is a 24-bit audio DSP suited to car audio system with functions of surround, elevation bass enhance and all. The just acoustic adjustment produces the most suitable surround matched up to each seat position in four-speakers configuration of front and rear. The sufficient surround effect requires the adjustment of PEQ parameters matched up to each seat position. The customer adjusts PEQ parameters with this tool. This tool corrects automatically and easily the characteristic of speaker and amp fixed the automobile to flat or optional frequency characteristic This manual describes concretely the method to adjust PEQ parameters with automatic correction tool and the procedure to convert the adjustment values into NJU26125 PEQ commands. 2.NJU26125 FIRMWARE BLOCK DIAGRAM Figure 2.1 shows the NJU26125 firmware block diagram. The adjustment items are PEQ Blocks described in redline. Each PEQ Block has seven bands PEQ. The all bands allocate only PEQ, or five bands PEQ and tone control. This manual explains an example of five bands PEQ. PEQ automatic correction tool (AutoFit.exe) NJU26125 GUI (NJU26125.exe) 1 3. Conversion tool to NJU26125 PEQ commands (fitpeq26125.exe) 1 4. NJU2612x Built-in Board 1 5. DEMO I/F Board 1 6. PC with sound input and output 1 The operating system responses to Windows 2000,Windows XP, Windows Server 2003,Windows Vista. 7. Omni directional microphone with built-in amp / Omni directional microphone and amp 1 8. Audio cable for microphone and PC analog input 1 9. Audio cable (pin plug*2: stereo mini plug: 3mm) USB cable V AC Adapter or 5V cable and Power supply 1 4.ATTENTION The attentions are as follows: 1. Adjust in quiet ambience 2. Close car doors, car windows and car trunk 3. Turn off engine and air conditioner 4. Connect the demo board to in-vehicle amp exactly. 5. As soon as Measurement Start button in GUI of auto correction tool is clinked, go outside of the car immediately before the test signal is outputted. 4 5.GENERAL FLOW CHART Figure 5.1 shows the general flow chart to adjust PEQ. The PEQ automatic correction tool generates eight PEQ parameter files. They are adjusted about Front-L, Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R in the driver seat, in addition, Front-L, Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R in the front seat. And then their files are converted into NJU26125 PEQ commands. Start The PEQ auto correction tool adjusts PEQ parameters of five bands to be flat the characteristic of Front-L speaker in the driver seat. Similarly, adjust the characteristics of Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R. 1. Set up a microphone at the headrest of driver seat. (Figure5.2, Figure6.1, Figure6.2) 2. Output the test signal from only Front-L speaker and then adjust then the PEQ parameters to be flat the characteristic of Front-L speaker. Export the adjustment values as PEQ parameter file of Front-L. 3. Execute according to similar procedure in case of Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R. The PEQ auto correction tool adjusts PEQ parameters of five bands to be flat the characteristic of Front-L speaker in the front seat. Similarly, adjust the characteristics of Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R. 4. Set up a microphone at the middle point of front passenger seat and driver seat. (Figure5.3, Figure6.3, Figure6.4) 5. Output the test signal from only Front-L speaker and then the PEQ parameters are adjusted to be flat the characteristic of Front-L speaker. Export the adjustment values as PEQ parameter file of Front-L. 6. Execute according to similar procedure in case of Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R. Convert the exported parameter files into NJU26125 PEQ commands. 5 6.SET UP OF MICROPHONE Figure 6.1 and Figure 6.2 show the position of a microphone in the driver seat. The driver s wheel installs on right side because this automobile is Japanese specification. If the driver s seat is left side, set up a microphone at the headrest of the left side front seat. Figure 6.3 and Figure 6.4 show the position of a microphone in the front seat. 7 8.ADJUSTMENT PROCESURE The PEQ auto correction tool adjusts five bands PEQ parameters to be flat the characteristic of Front-L, Front-R, Rear-L and Rear-R in the driver seat and then export the adjustment values as PEQ parameter file. This chapter describes the procedure to adjust PEQ and export the adjusted parameters in Front-L speaker 1.Copy PEQ automatic correction tool and NJU26125 GUI to local disk of customer s PC. 2.Set up the microphone to measure speaker characteristic. (Figure 6.1 and Figure 6.2) Connect NJU26125 Demo Board to the in-vehicle amp. (Figure 7.1 and Figure 7.2) 3.Execute NJU26125 GUI. (Figure8.1) Figure 8.1 Startup screen of NJU26125 GUI -6-
8 4.Select USB-FX1 from pull down menu of Port Device. And then the indication of status will change from Push the connect button to Connected. Moreover the background color of status will change from light blue to green. This shows that the communications between DSP and PC are valid. (Figure 8.2-B) And then check that Master volume is set to mute. (Figure8.2-C) -7-
9 6.Click Trim tab and then trim control will be displayed. (Figure8.3-A) Set all output trimmers except front left to mute. (Figure8.3-B) Because the test signal is stereo and then the adjustment uses the sound outputted from the only front left-speaker Set the Input Trim to 12dB under consideration of PEQ adjustment. (Figure8.3-C) Figure 8.3-A Figure 8.3-C Figure 8.3-B Figure 8.3 Volume adjustments 7.Check that SIN_SWEEP.WAV exists in the WAVE folder. This wave file is the sound source for the measurement. If this file doesn t exist in the wave folder, it is impossible to use the measurement function of this tool. Accordingly, copy all folders to the local disk. 8. 10 9.Click Device setting tab and then control screen of Device setting will be displayed. (Figure8.5-A) Select the correspond device from pull down menu. 11 12.Turn up the master volume gradually and then adjust the proper magnitude of sound. (Figure 8.2-C) This tool displays the peak level and RMS value of the input signal. The rough standards show that the peak level is about -6dB and RMS value is about 20dB. If the values aren t extremely lower than the rough standards, the microphone level has no effect on the measurement. (Figure8.7-A) Figure 8.8 shows the Clipping waveform. Figure 8.9 shows the magnification of clipping point. If the magnitude of sound finishes to adjust, click Stop Test sound button to suspend the test signal. (Figure8.7-B) And then select Freq Response of Main View Select and frequency response will be displayed. 12 13.Click Measurement Start button, and then this tool will output the test signal and start to measure speaker characteristic automatically. (Figure 8.11) Figure8.11 Indication during measurement If the tool finishes to play the test signal and the progress bar disappear automatically, the measurement will have finished. (Figure8.12) The gray line indicates background noise. If the background noise level is higher than the measurement result or affects the frequency response, Set the check box indicated Noise Cancel. 13 14.Set the check box indicated Measurement result. Unset the check boxes except Measurement result because the measurement result enables to be fairly visible. 14 Click Save Measurement button (Figure8.14-C), and then Save Measurement Result Plot data file will be displayed. (Figure8.16-A) The following example shows to save as driver-front-l. 15 16.Click Target setting tab to confirm a target characteristic, and then the control screen of Target setting will be displayed. (Figure8.17) Figure8.17 Control screen of Target setting Set the check box indicated Target curve, and then the target curve will be displayed. (Figure8.18-A) Confirm that the curve is flat. If it is not flat, click Flat button, and then the target curve will be flat. (Figure8.18-B) The blue line indicates the target curve. 16 17.Click Correction setting tab, and then control screen of Correction setting will be displayed. (Figure 8.19) Set frequency range according to speaker characteristic. Figure8.19-A shows that the frequency range is from 100Hz to.10khz. NJU26125 has seven bands PEQ, and five bands of all are assigned to PEQ and then the others are assigned to tone control. Certainly all bands enable to be assigned to PEQ. Figure8.19-B shows that the number of bands is set to five. Adjust Precision of correction to approximate the target curve. Figure 8.19-C shows that Precision of Figure8.19-A Figure8.19-B correction is set to ten. Set the check boxes indicated, Measurement result, Correction Figure8.19-C result, Target curve and PEQ plot and then these figures will be Figure8.19-D displayed together. (Figure8.20-A) The maximum gain and frequency of PEQ are displayed at the upper right corner. (Figure8.20-B) Figure8.20-B shows that the maximum gain is dB at 10,024Hz.Accordingly the input trimmer needs to lower 12dB at least to prevent the clipping distortion. The present input trimmer is set to 12dB. (Figure 8.3-C) Figure8.20 Correction result If the proper correction result isn t gotten well, reconsider frequency range and then adjust PEQ parameters again. The other adjustment ways are as follows: 18-1.The ways to drag a setting point of PEQ manually 18-2.The ways to fine-tune the automatic correction result 18-3.The ways to adjust semiautomatic correction of PEQ Execute automatic correction Click the check box indicated Manually FO Setup mode. Reconsider frequency by dragging the adjusted PEQ point Click Correction Start button. In this mode, the customer enable to adjust Q and Gain without changing the reconsidered frequency. -15-
17 19.Click PEQ Export/Import tab to export PEQ parameters and then the control screen of PEQ Export /Import will be displayed. 19 10.CONVERSION of PARAMTER FILE This chapter describes the procedure to convert the adjustment values exported by the correction tool into NJU26125 PEQ commands USAGE of PRESET in NJU26125 GUI NJU26125 has ten presets, and then the file named NJU26125.ini describes the parameters of each function. Figure 10.1-A shows the preset number assigns to each seat position, and the acoustic adjustment is operated according to seat position. Each tab (Main, Trim, Bass Enhance/Elevation, Car Surround, Phase Shifter/Time Alignment, PEQ Front, PEQ Rear, Other, System, All Tabs, All Tabs-Main) selected from pull down menu enable to load and save parameters corresponded to preset number. 20 10.2.PARAMETER CONVERSION TOOL The parameter conversion tool imports the file exported by auto correction tool and then converts into NJU26125 PEQ commands. This tool updates NJU26125.ini corresponded to the assigned preset number with the conversion results PARAMETER CONVERSION FLOW CHART Figure10.2 shows the conversion flow chart of parameter files. Start Preset2 is assigned to driver seat Prepare PEQ parameter files exported by auto correction tool. These are the adjusted results with the microphone attached the driver seat Update parameters (Front-L) of NJU26125.ini-file corresponded to preset2. 21 10.4.CONVERSION PROCESURE This chapter shows the procedure to convert the parameter file into NJU26125 PEQ commands. As an example, this explains how to convert the parameter file exported by auto correction tool in the driver seat. 1. At first, locate the following files at the same folder NJJ26125.ini parameter setting file 1-2. Parameter files exported by auto correction tool (eight files referred to Table 10.1) 1-3. fitpeq26125.exe parameter conversion tool 2.Double-click firpeq26125.exe to execute the parameter conversion tool. (Figure10.3) Figure 10.3 Startup screen of ftirpeq26125.exe 3.This tool inquires, PEQ Export File Name. Therefore, drag & drop driver-front-l.txt on startup screen. (Figure 10.4) This file is PEQ parameter file of Front-L in the driver seat. Figure10.4 Screen of input file -20-
22 4. After drag and drop of the file, input Enter key. And then tool requires, Preset Number? (1-10): (Figure10.5) Figure10.5 Inquire Preset Number 5. Because this file is the parameter for the driver seat, input 2 key and then Enter. And then tool requires, Speaker channel? (1=Front Lch, 2=Front Rch, 3=Rear Lch, 4=Rear Rch): Figure10.6 Inquire speaker channel 6. Because this input file is the parameter for front-l, input 1 key and then Enter. If NJU26125.ini finishes to update, the screen of this tool will be close automatically. 7.Update NJU26125.ini about the other s parameter files in the same procedure. -21-

The parameters has finished to overwrite to Preset5 The PEQ parameters exported with auto correction tool have set PEQ parameter corresponded to preset number of NJU26125 GUI.
