5 Additional Terms: Gliding Cursor: This refers to a blue bar that goes across the screen when an app is not switch accessible via Switch Control. It is Switch Controls method of allowing access even though the app is not set up to use Switch Control. Scanning Patterns: This identifies how choices are grouped or highlighted during scanning. Scanning Modes: This identifies the number of switches use and how they will be used. This is also called scanning type in some apps. Scanning Modes that may be available: Automatic Scanning: The student uses one switch. Each item is highlighted for a designated amount of time. When the switch is pressed, the item is selected. When the switch is not pressed, the next item will be highlighted. This requires timing on the part of the student. Settings adjustments: Scanning rate (the number of seconds each item is highlighted.) Step Scanning: The student uses two switches. One switch scans when pressed and the second switch selects. The student controls the timing of the scanning and selecting. Automatic Selecting: The student uses one switch to scan. Each item is highlighted for a set amount of time. If the switch is not activated, the item will select. If the switch is activated, the next item is highlighted. (similar to like select upon dwelling.) Setting adjustments: Scanning rate (the number of seconds an item is highlighted before selected.) Inverse Scanning: The student uses one switch. When the switch is held down, each item is highlighted for a designated amount of time. When the student releases the switch, the item is selected. When one switch is held down, scanning occurs and items are highlighted. When the user releases the switch, the scanning stops, but he item is NOT automatically selected.
