Tell Ms. Reed immediately. 9. What should you check on your clothing before using tools? For danglies, loose clothing or hair that could get caught, closed toed shoes, and any other safety issues. 10. If someone is badly injured and laying on the floor what should you do? Call 911 and the notify Ms. Reed 11. Where should you never put your hands when using cutting tools? In front of the blade or anywhere in the danger zone. 12. The Title of the play, the author, the setting, and the time period. 40. What does it mean to strike a set? To break it down to the component parts. 41. Why is it important to practice all safety procedures in class? You can replace a tool, but you cannot replace a person. 42. Who is the protagonist in a play? The main character. 43. Who is the antagonist in the play? The person working against the main character. 44. What is the initial incident in a play? The first indication there may be a problem. 45. What is a conflict? The main problem in the play. 46. What is rising action? Incidents that make the conflict worsen. 47. What is a climax? The highest dramatic moment of the play when the problem is solved. 48. What is falling action (Dénouement)? What happens as a result of the climax. 49. What is a synopsis of a play? A brief summary that does not give away the end. 50. What is a scene? A section of the play with a single location and time. 51. What is meant by period? The era in which the play takes place. 3

The people who create all of the technical elements of the play 55. What is the medium in a design or piece? The supplies that the design of piece is made with. 56. What is a line? A segment with a starting and ending point 57. What is a shape? A geometric configuration. 58. To what does color refer to in a design? Hue & pigment 59. What is texture in a design? The way something feels, or the way it looks like it would feel. 60. What is the weight of a line? How thick or light it is, and how heavy or light it appears. 61. What is a logo, and what is it used for? A symbol representing a company or business. 62. What is a graphic on a poster? A picture representing an idea or theme in the play. 63. How is the paper set up in a portrait viewpoint? Short top & bottom, long sides. 64. How is the paper set up in a landscape viewpoint? Short sides, long top & bottom. 65. Who is Aeschylus, and why is he important to theatre? He is a Greek tragedian whose plays are the first to have survived. He is known for creating the trilogy format, adding the second actor to create conflict, and adding painted scenery and elaborate costumes, including cothurnus to make the actors taller. 66. What type of plays did Aeschylus write? Tragedies in the trilogy format. 67. What is deus ex machina, and what is it used for? Machinery of the gods, used for flying effects. 4
5 68. What is a trilogy, and why is the term important in the Greek period? A trilogy is a three part play that continues along the same theme or tells a continuing story. They were the accepted format for the Greek tragedy performances in the Festival of Dionysis. 69. What type of writing does a satirist do? A satirist makes fun of people. 70. Who is Thespis, and why was he important to theatre? He was the first actor to step out or the chorus and converse directly with the chorus, thus creating dialogue. 71. What is the first step to any make-up application? Wash your face with soap and water. 72. Which goes first, base or scar wax? Scar wax. 73. How is scar wax used in make-up application? Take a small amount, create a tiny hot dog, place the hot dog over a bony surface, and blend it into the surrounding skin, maintain a 3-D surface. 74. When do you add blood effects to a make-up design? After everything else is finished. 75. What colors should be used for a bruise? Purple, red, green & yellow 76. How do you remove stage make-up? Wash your face with soap and water. 77. What should you do after removing stage make-up? Moisturize. 78. How should I determine what lumber to use when I need to cut something? Use the smallest piece you can find that will work for the required dimensions. In other words, don t waste big pieces of lumber for small set pieces. 79.
