Product description 3.2 Principe of operation Area of appication Functiona principe VEGAPULS 61 is a radar sensor in K-band (emitting frequency approx. 26 GHz) for continuous eve measurement. The version with encapsuated antenna system is particuary suitabe for eve measurement of aggressive iquids in sma vesses. The version with pastic horn antenna is particuary suitabe for fow measurement in open fumes or gauge measurement in waters. The eectronics version "Increased sensitivity" enabes the use of VEGAPULS 61 aso in appications with very bad refective properties or products with ow e r vaue. The antenna of the radar sensor emits short radar puses with a duration of approx. 1 ns. These puses are refected by the product and received by the antenna as echoes. The running time of the radar puses from emission to reception is proportiona to the distance and hence to the eve. The determined eve is converted into an appropriate output signa and outputted as measured vaue. Suppy Two-wire eectronics 4 20 ma/hart for power suppy and measured vaue transmission over the same cabe. The suppy votage range can differ depending on the instrument version. The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". The backight of the indicating and adjustment modue is powered by the sensor. The prerequisite for this is a suppy votage at a certain eve. The exact votage specifications are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". This function is avaiabe for instruments with nationa approvas such as e.g. according to CSA ony at a ater date. The optiona heating requires its own power suppy. You can find detaied information in the suppementary instructions manua "Heating for indicating and adjustment modue". This function is generay not avaiabe for approved instruments. VEGAPULS ma/hart 13

Product description 3.3 Operation VEGAPULS 61 can be adjusted with different adjustment media: with indicating and adjustment modue with the suitabe VEGA DTM in conjunction with an adjustment software according to the FDT/DTM standard, e.g. PACTware and PC with manufacturer-specific adjustment programs AMS or PDM with a HART handhed The entered parameters are generay saved in VEGAPULS 61, optionay aso in the indicating and adjustment modue or in PACTware. 3.4 Packaging, transport and storage Packaging Transport Transport inspection Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test according to DIN EN The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. For specia versions, PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. Transport must be carried out under consideration of the notes on the transport packaging. Nonobservance of these instructions can cause damage to the device. The deivery must be checked for competeness and possibe transit damage immediatey at receipt. Ascertained transit damage or conceaed defects must be appropriatey deat with. Storage Up to the time of instaation the packaging must be cosed and stored according to the orientation and storage markings on the outside. Uness otherwise indicated, the packaging must be stored ony under the foowing conditions: Not in the open Dry and dust free Not exposed to corrosive media Protected against soar radiation Avoiding mechanica shock and vibration 14 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Instaation position Screwing in Seect an instaation position you can easiy reach for mounting and connecting as we as ater retrofitting of an indicating and adjustment modue. The housing can be rotated by 330 without the use of any toos. You can aso insta the indicating and adjustment modue in four different positions (each dispaced by 90 ). Warning: The housing of threaded versions must not be used to screw the instrument in! Appying tightening force on the housing can damage its rotationa mechanica parts. Moisture Use the recommended cabes (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe gand. You can give your VEGAPULS 61 additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Measuring range Fig. 3: Measures against moisture penetration The reference pane for the measuring range of the sensor depends on the antenna version. With encapsuated antenna system, the reference pane is the sea surface of the thread. 16 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Mounting % 0% Fig. 4: Measuring range (operating range) and max. measuring distance with encapsuated antenna system 1 fu 2 empty (max. measuring distance) 3 Measuring range With pastic horn antenna, the bearing surface on the side of the focussing ense is the reference pane. Information: If the medium reaches the antenna, buidup can form on it and cause fauty measurements ater on. Wetted materias Make sure that the wetted parts of VEGAPULS 61, especiay the sea and process fitting, are suitabe for the existing process conditions such as pressure, temperature etc. as we as the chemica properties of the medium. You can find the specifications in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". 4.2 Mounting preparations, mounting strap The optionay avaiabe mounting strap is used to fasten VEGAPULS 61 on top of open vesses or fumes. It is suitabe for mounting on was, ceis or brackets. The strap is suppied unassembed and must be screwed to the sensor with the three hexagon screws M5x10 and spring washers before setup. Max. torque see chapter "Technica data". Necessary toos: Aen wrench size 4. Two ways are possibe for screwing on. Depending on the seected version, the sensors can be swiveed as foows in the strap: VEGAPULS ma/hart 17

Mounting Singe chamber housing - stepess by in three steps 0, 90 and 180 Doube chamber housing - stepess by 90 - in two steps 0 and Mounting instructions Instaation position When mounting VEGAPULS 61, keep a distance of at east 200 mm (7.874 in) to the vesse wa. If the sensor is instaed in the center of dished or round vesse tops, mutipe echoes can arise. These can, however, be suppressed by an appropriate adjustment (see "Setup"). If you cannot keep this distance you shoud carry out a fase echo memory before setup. This appies mainy if buidup is expected on the vesse wa. In this case, we recommend to repeat a fase echo memory ater with existing buidup. 1 2 > 200 mm Fig. 5: Mounting on round vesse tops 1 Reference pane 2 Vesse center or symmetry axis In vesses with conica bottom it can be advantageous to mount the sensor in the center of the vesse, as measurement is then possibe down to the owest point of the vesse bottom. 18 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Mounting Fig. 6: Vesse with conica bottom Infowing medium Do not mount the instruments in or above the fiing stream. Make sure that you detect the product surface and not the infowing product. Fig. 7: Infowing iquid Socket Socket pieces shoud be dimensioned such that the antenna end protrudes at east 10 mm (0.4 in) out of the socket. VEGAPULS ma/hart 19

Mounting ca. 10 mm Fig. 8: Recommended socket mounting If the refective properties of the medium are good, you can mount VEGAPULS 61 on sockets which are higher than the ength of the antenna. You wi find recommended vaues for socket heights in the foowing iustration. The socket end shoud be smooth and burr-free, if possibe aso rounded. After instaation you must carry out a fase echo storage. h d d 1½" 50 mm/2" 80 mm/3" 100 mm/4" 150 mm/6" h 200 mm 250 mm 300 mm 500 mm 800 mm Fig. 9: Deviating socket dimensions Sensor orientation Direct the sensor in iquids as perpendicuar as possibe to the product surface to achieve optimum measurement resuts. Fig. 10: Orientation in iquids 20 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Mounting Vesse instaations The mounting ocation of the radar sensor shoud be a pace where no other equipment or fixtures cross the path of the microwave signas. Vesse instaations such as, for exampe, adders, imit switches, heating spiras, struts, etc. can cause fase echoes that get superimposed on the usefu echo. Make sure when panning your measuring site that the radar sensor has a "cear view" to the measured product. In case of existing vesse instaations, a fase echo storage shoud be carried out during setup. If arge vesse instaations such as struts or supports cause fase echoes, these can be attenuated through suppementary measures. Sma, incined sheet meta baffes above the instaations scatter the radar signas and prevent direct interfering refections. Fig. 11: Cover smooth profies with defectors Agitators If there are agitators in the vesse, a fase echo storage shoud be carried out with the agitators in motion. This ensures that the interfering refections from the agitators are saved with the bades in different positions. VEGAPULS ma/hart 21

Mounting Fig. 12: Agitators Foam generation Measurement in the standpipe (surge or bypass tube) Through the action of fiing, stirring and other processes in the vesse, dense foams which consideraby damp the emitted signas may form on the product surface. If foams ead to measurement errors, you shoud use the biggest possibe radar antennas and ow frequency radar sensors, e.g. VEGAPULS 65, 66 (C-band). VEGAFLEX sensors with guided microwaves are not infuenced by foam generation and are particuary suitabe for such appications. By using a standpipe, the infuence of vesse instaations and turbuence can be excuded. Under these prerequisites, the measurement of products with ow dieectric vaues (from DK vaue 1.6) is possibe. Note: Measurement in a standpipe is not recommended for very adhesive products. Surge or bypass tubes must extend a the way down to the requested min. eve, as measurement is ony possibe within the tube. Surge pipe Make sure you provide the necessary upper vent hoe in the surge pipe. The hoe must be aigned so that it and the poarisation marking on the sensor are in the same pane (see iustration: "Pipe antenna system in a tank"). 22 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Mounting max. 1 2 min. Fig. 13: Pipe antenna system in a tank. The vent hoe in the surge pipe must be in one pane with the poarisation marking on the sensor. 1 Marking of the poarisation direction 2 Vent hode max. ø 5 mm (0.2 in) If possibe, the antenna diameter of the sensor shoud correspond to the inner diameter of the tube. With VEGAPULS 61 this is approx. 40 mm (1.575 in). The sensor can be used with tube diameters between mm ( in). Bypass tube As an aternative to the surge pipe in the vesse, a pipe system can be mounted outside of the vesse as a bypass tube. For setup, seect the function "Bypass tube". Aign the sensor in such a way that the poarisation marking on the process fitting is in the same pane as the tube hoes or the tube connection openings (see iustration: "VEGAPULS in a bypass tube"). The poarisation marking on the process fitting must be in one pane to the tube hoes or the tube connection openings. 1 Marking of the poarisation direction When the sensor is mounted on a bypass tube, the distance from VEGAPULS 61 to the upper tube connection shoud be approx. 500 mm ( in) or more. In case of extremey rough tube inner was, you shoud use an inserted tube (tube in tube) or a radar sensor with tube antenna. Fow measurement The short exampes shoud just give introductory information for the fow measurement. Panning information is avaiabe from the fume manufacturers and in specia iterature. Meas. wa with rectanguar fume In genera, the foowing points must be observed: Instaation of the sensor on the headwater side Instaation in the center of the fume and vertica to the iquid surface Distance to the overfa orifice Distance orifice opening above ground Min. distance of the orifice opening to bottom water Min. distance of the sensor to max. storage eve 24 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Connecting to power suppy 5 Connecting to power suppy 5.1 Preparing the connection Note safety instructions Take note of safety instructions for Ex appications Aways keep in mind the foowing safety instructions: Connect ony in the compete absence of ine votage If overvotage surges are expected, overvotage arresters shoud be instaed Tip: We recommend using VEGA overvotage arresters ÜS-F-LB-I and ÜSB 62-36G.X. In hazardous areas you shoud take note of the appropriate reguations, conformity and type approva certificates of the sensors and power suppy units. Seect power suppy Seecting connection cabe Cabe gand ½ NPT Power suppy and current signa are carried on the same twowire cabe. The votage suppy range can differ depending on the instrument version. The data for power suppy are stated in chapter "Technica data" in the "Suppement". Provide a reiabe separation between the suppy circuit and the mains circuits according to DIN VDE 0106 part 101. The VEGA power suppy units VEGATRENN 149A Ex, VEGAS- TAB 690 as we as a VEGAMETs meet this requirement. Bear in mind the foowing factors regarding suppy votage: Output votage of the power suppy unit can be ower under nomina oad (with a sensor current of 20.5 ma or 22 ma in case of faut message) Infuence of additiona instruments in the circuit (see oad vaues in chapter "Technica data"). VEGAPULS 61 is connected with standard two-wire cabe without screen. An outer cabe diameter of 5 9 mm ensures the sea effect of the cabe gand. If eectromagnetic interference is expected which is above the test vaues of EN for industria areas, screened cabe shoud be used. For HART mutidrop operation we recommend as standard practice the use of screened cabe. On VEGAPULS 61 with cabe gand ½ NPT and pastic housing, a meta ½" threaded insert is mouded in the pastic housing. 28 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Connecting to power suppy Caution: No grease shoud be used when screwing the NPT cabe gand or stee tube into the threaded insert. Standard grease can contain additives that corrode the connection between threaded insert and housing. This woud infuence the stabiity of the connection and the tightness of the housing. Cabe screening and grounding Seect connection cabe for Ex appications If screened cabe is necessary, connect the cabe screen on both ends to ground potentia. In the sensor, the screen must be connected directy to the interna ground termina. The ground termina on the outside of the housing must be connected to the potentia equaisation (ow impedance). If potentia equaisation currents are expected, the connection on the processing side must be made via a ceramic capacitor (e.g. 1 nf, 1500 V). The ow frequency potentia equaisation currents are thus suppressed, but the protective effect against high frequency interference signas remains. Take note of the corresponding instaation reguations for Ex appications. In particuar, make sure that no potentia equaisation currents fow over the cabe screen. In case of grounding on both sides this can be achieved by the use of a capacitor or a separate potentia equaisation. 5.2 Connection steps - Instrument housing Proceed as foows: 1 Unscrew the housing cover 2 If an indicating and adjustment modue is instaed, remove it by turning it sighty to the eft. 3 Loosen compression nut of the cabe entry 4 Remove approx. 10 cm (4 in) of the cabe mante, strip approx. 1 cm (0.4 in) insuation from the ends of the individua wires 5 Insert the cabe into the sensor through the cabe entry 6 Lift the opening evers of the terminas with a screwdriver (see foowing iustration) 7 Insert the wire ends into the open terminas according to the wiring pan VEGAPULS ma/hart 29

The hardware version is stated on the type abe of the indicating and adjustment modue or the sensor eectronics. Information: This function is avaiabe for instruments with nationa approvas such as e.g. according to CSA ony at a ater date. Note: You wi find detaied information on the adjustment in the operating instructions manua of the "Indicating and adjustment modue". Mount/dismount indicating and adjustment modue 6.2 Insert indicating and adjustment modue The indicating and adjustment modue can be inserted into the sensor and removed again at any time. It is not necessary to interrupt the power suppy. Proceed as foows: 1 Unscrew the housing cover 2 Pace the indicating and adjustment modue in the desired position on the eectronics (you can choose any one of four different positions - each dispaced by 90 ) 3 Press the indicating and adjustment modue onto the eectronics and turn it to the right unti it snaps in. 4 Screw housing cover with inspection window tighty back on VEGAPULS ma/hart 37

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Remova is carried out in reverse order. The indicating and adjustment modue is powered by the sensor, an additiona connection is not necessary. Fig. 31: Instaation of the indicating and adjustment modue Note: If you intend to retrofit VEGAPULS 61 with an indicating and adjustment modue for continuous measured vaue indication, a higher cover with an inspection gass is required. 38 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 6.4 Setup procedure Address setting HART-Mutidrop In HART-Mutidrop mode (severa sensors on one input) the address must be set before continuing with the parameter adjustment. You wi find a detaied description in the operating instructions manua "Indicating and adjustment modue" or in the onine hep of PACTware or DTM. HART mode Standard Address 0 Parameter adjustment As VEGAPULS 61 is a distance measuring instrument, the distance from the sensor to the product surface is measured. To have the rea product eve dispayed, an aocation of the measured distance to the percentage height must be made. To carry out this adjustment, the distance is entered with fu and empty vesse. If these vaues are not known, an adjustment with the distance vaues, e.g. 10 % and 90 % is aso possibe. Starting point for these distance specifications is aways the sea surface of the thread or fange. With these settings, the rea eve is cacuated. Furthermore the operating range of the sensor is imited from maximum to the required range. The rea product eve during this adjustment is not important, because the min./max. adjustment is aways carried out without changing the product eve. These settings can be made ahead of time without the instrument having to be instaed. Caution: If there is a separation of iquids with different dieectric vaues in the vesse, e.g. from condensation, VEGAPULS 61 can detect under certain circumstances ony the medium with the higher dieectric vaue. Keep in mind that interfaces can cause fauty measurements. If you want to measure the tota height of both iquids reiaby, pease contact our service department or use an instrument speciay designed for interface measurement. In the main menu item "Basic adjustment", the individua submenu items shoud be seected one after the other and provided with the correct parameter vaues. 40 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Start your parameter adjustment with the foowing menu items of the basic adjustment: Carrying out min. adjustment Proceed as foows: 1 Move from the measured vaue dispay to the main menu by pushing [OK]. Basic adjustment Dispay Diagnostics Service Info 2 Seect the menu item "Basic adjustment" with [->] and confirm with [OK]. Now the menu item "Min. adjustment" is dispayed. Min. adjustment 0.00 % = m(d) m(d) Carrying out max. adjustment 3 Prepare the % vaue for editing with [OK] and set the cursor to the requested position with [->]. Set the requested percentage vaue with [+] and save with [OK]. The cursor jumps now to the distance vaue. 4 Enter the appropriate distance vaue in m (corresponding to the percentage vaue) for the empty vesse (e.g. distance from the sensor to the vesse bottom). 5 Save the settings with [OK] and move to "Max. adjustment" with [->]. Proceed as foows: Max. adjustment % = m(d) m(d) 1 Prepare the % vaue for editing with [OK] and set the cursor to the requested position with [->]. Set the requested percentage vaue with [+] and save with [OK]. The cursor jumps now to the distance vaue. 2 Enter the appropriate distance vaue in m (corresponding to the percentage vaue) for the fu vesse. Keep in mind that the max. eve must ie beow the dead band. 3 Save the settings with [OK] and move to "Medium seection" with [->]. VEGAPULS ma/hart 41

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Medium seection Each product has different refective properties. In addition, there are various interfering factors which have to be taken into account: agitated product surfaces and foam generation (with iquids); dust generation, materia cones and echoes from the vesse wa (with soids). To adapt the sensor to these different conditions, you shoud first seect "Liquid" or "Soid". Medium Liquid Information: With VEGAPULS 61 with eectronics version "Increased safety", "Soid" is preset as factory setting. However, the instrument shoud be used preferaby in iquids. In such cases, the medium seection shoud be set to "Liquid" during setup. According to the conductivity and the dieectric vaue of iquids, the refection properties can differ consideraby. Therefore additiona options such as "Sovent", "Chem. mixture" and "Water based" are offered beow the menu item Liquid. With soids, you can aso choose between "Powder/Dust", "Granuar/Peets" or "Baast/Pebbes". Through this additiona seection, the sensor is adapted perfecty to the product and measurement reiabiity, particuary in products with bad refective properties, is consideraby increased. Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Vesse form Apart from the medium, the vesse shape can aso infuence the measurement. To adapt the sensor to these measuring conditions, this menu item offers different options depending on whether iquid or soid is seected. With "Liquids" these are "Storage tank", "Stiing tube", "Open vesse" or "Stirred vesse", with "Soid", "Sio" or "Bunker". Vesse form Storage tank Information: With VEGAPULS 61 with eectronics version "Increased 42 VEGAPULS ma/hart

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM safety", "Soid" is preset as factory setting. However, the instrument shoud be used preferaby in iquids. In such cases, the vesse form shoud be set to "Storage tank" during setup. Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Linearisation curve A inearization is necessary for a vesses in which the vesse voume does not increase ineary with the eve - e.g. with a cyindrica or spherica tank - and the indication or output of the voume is required. Corresponding inearization curves are preprogrammed for these vesses. They represent the correation between the eve percentage and vesse voume. By activating the appropriate curve, the voume percentage of the vesse is dispayed correcty. If the voume shoud not be dispayed in percent but e.g. in or kg, a scaing can be aso set in the menu item "Dispay". Linearisation curve inear Enter the requested parameter via the appropriate keys, save your settings and jump to the next menu item with the [->] key. Caution: Note the foowing, if VEGAPULS 61 is used as part of an overfi protection system according to WHG: If a inearisation curve is seected, the measuring signa is no onger compusoriy inear proportiona to the eve. This must be taken into consideration by the user, particuary when adjusting the switching point on the eve switch. Gating out of fase signas High sockets or vesse instaations, such as e.g. struts or agitators as we as buidup and wed joints on the vesse was cause interfering refections which can impair the measurement. A fase echo storage detects and marks these fase echoes, so that they are no onger taken into account for the eve measurement. A fase echo memory shoud be created with empty vesse so that a potentia interfering refections wi be detected. VEGAPULS ma/hart 43

Set up with the indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM Gating out of fase signas Change now? Proceed as foows: 1 Move from the measured vaue dispay to the main menu by pushing [OK]. 2 Seect the menu item "Service" with [->] and confirm with [OK]. Now the menu item "Fase signa suppression" is dispayed. 3 Confirm "Fase signa suppression - Change now" with [OK] and seect in the beow menu "Create new". Enter the actua distance from the sensor to the product surface. A fase signas in this area are detected by the sensor and saved after confirming with [OK]. Note: Check the distance to the product surface, because if an incorrect (too arge) vaue is entered, the existing eve wi be saved as fase signa. The fiing eve woud then no onger be detectabe in this area. Extended setting/quick eve change The menu item "Extended setting" offers the possibiity to optimise VEGAPULS 61 for appications with quick eve changes. For this purpose seect the function "Quick eve change >1 m/min.". Extended setting None Note: Since with the function "Quick eve change >1 m/min." the generation of an averafy vaue of the signa processing is consideraby reduced, fase refections by agitators or vesse instaations can cause measured vaue fuctuations. A fase echo memory is thus recommended. Copy sensor data This function enabes reading out parameter adjustment data as we as writing parameter adjustment data into the sensor via the indicating and adjustment modue. A description of the function is avaiabe in the operating instructions manua "Indicating and adjustment modue". 44 VEGAPULS ma/hart
