Be sure to keep a user documentation handy for future reference. Keep the watch exposed to bright ight The eectricity generated by the soar ce of the watch is Bright Light stored by a rechargeabe battery. Leaving or using the watch where it is not exposed to ight causes the battery to run down. Make sure the watch is exposed to ight as Soar ce much as possibe. When you are not wearing the watch on your wrist, position the face so it is pointed at a source of bright ight. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. harging is reduced significanty if the face is covered ony partiay. E E-1 The watch continues to operate, even when it is not exposed to ight. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which wi resut in some watch functions to be disabed. If the battery goes dead, you wi have to re-configure watch settings after recharging. To ensure norma watch operation, be sure to keep it exposed to ight as much as possibe. 2 Switching the Dispay Screen Each press of changes the contents of the digita dispay. This watch is preset with a number of city codes, each of which represents the time zone where that city is ocated. When setting the time, it is important that you first seect the correct city code for your Home (the city where you normay use the watch). If your ocation is not incuded in the preset city codes, seect the preset city code that is in the same time zone as your ocation. Note that a of the times for the Word Time Mode city codes (page E-19) are dispayed in accordance with the time and date settings you configure in the Timekeeping Mode. PM indicator E-10 E-11 To set the time and date 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about three seconds. You can reease the button after ADJ appears on the dispay. At this time, 12H (12-hour timekeeping) or 24H (24- hour timekeeping) aso wi be fashing on the dispay. The second hand wi move to 12 o cock and stop there. 2. Press to togge between 12-hour (12H) and 24-hour (24H) timekeeping. 3. Press B and the city code of the current Home wi fash on the dispay. 4. Use to seect the city code you want. Make sure you seect your Home code before changing any other setting. For fu information on city codes, see the ode Tabe at the back of this manua. 5. The day of the week is dispayed automaticay in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. hange the hour and minutes hange the year, month, or day E-14 E hour and 24-hour timekeeping With the 12-hour format, the PM indicator (P) appears on the dispay for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Timekeeping Mode is appied in a other modes. Dayight Saving Time (DST) Dayight Saving Time (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use Dayight Saving Time. E-16 To change the Dayight Saving Time (summer time) setting 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about three seconds. You can reease the button after ADJ appears on the dispay. At this time, 12H (12-hour timekeeping) or 24H (24- hour timekeeping) aso wi be fashing on the dispay. 2. Press B twice to enter the Dayight Saving Time setting mode. 3. Use to cyce through the DST settings in the sequence shown beow. DST off ( ) DST on ( ) OFF This setting turns off summer time, and dispays the current time normay. ON This setting turns on summer time. Turning on summer time advances the current time by one hour. E When the setting you want is seected, press A to exit the setting screen. The DST indicator appears to indicate that Dayight Saving Time is turned on. Anaog Timekeeping The anaog time of this watch is synchronized with the digita time. The anaog time setting is adjusted automaticay whenever you change the digita time. Note The hands for the anaog timepiece move to adjust to a new setting whenever any of the foowing occurs. When you change the digita time setting When you change the Home code and/or DST setting If the anaog time does not match the digita time for any reason, use the procedure described under To adjust home positions (page E-42) to match the anaog setting to the digita setting. Whenever you need to adjust both the digita and the anaog time settings, make sure you adjust the digita setting first. Depending on how much the hands have to move in order to adjust to the digita time, it may take some time before they stop moving. E-18 Word Time urrent time in seected city Word Time shows the current time in 29 cities (29 time zones) around the word. The times kept in the Word Time Mode are synchronized with the time being kept in the Timekeeping Mode. If you fee that there is an error in any Word Time Mode time, check to make sure you have the correct city seected as your Home. Aso check to make sure that the current time as shown in the Timekeeping Mode is correct. The Word Time Mode indicator is dispayed in the Word Time Mode. When you enter the Word Time mode, the second hand moves to the currenty seected Word, and the hour and minute hands indicate the current time in the Home. E-19

3 Seect a city code in the Word Time Mode to dispay the current time in any particuar time zone around the gobe. See the ode Tabe at the back of this manua for information about the UT differentia settings that are supported. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Word Time Mode, which you enter by pressing B (page E-9). To view the time in another city In the Word Time Mode, press. This wi cause the city code of the currenty seected Word Time to appear for about two seconds, foowed by the current time in that city. Pressing whie a city code is dispayed wi scro to the next city code, in the sequence noted in the ode Tabe at the back of this manua. E-20 To togge a city code time between Standard Time and Dayight Saving Time 1. In the Word Time Mode, use to dispay the city code DST indicator (time zone) whose Standard Time/Dayight Saving Time setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge between Dayight Saving Time (DST indicator dispayed) and Standard Time (DST indicator not dispayed). The DST indicator is shown on the Word Time Mode screen whie Dayight Saving Time is turned on. Note that the Standard Time/Dayight Saving Time setting affects ony the currenty dispayed city code. Other city codes are not affected. Seecting Dayight Saving Time for the city that is currenty seected as the Home, wi aso appy Dayight Saving Time to the Timekeeping Mode time. Note that you cannot switch between Standard Time and Dayight Saving Time whie UT is seected as the city code. E-21 Aarms E-22 Aarm time (Hour : Minutes) The Aarm Mode ets you configure five daiy aarms. You aso can use it to turn the Houry Time Signa on or off. The watch beeps for about 10 seconds when an aarm time is reached. Turning on the Houry Time Signa causes the watch to beep on the hour every hour. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing B (page E-9). To set an aarm time Aarm number About 1 second 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to scro through the aarm screens unti the one whose time you want to set is dispayed. AL1 AL2 AL3 SIG AL5 AL4 Aarm time The aarm screens are AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4, and AL5. 2. Hod down A unti the hour digits of the current aarm time start to fash. This is the setting mode. Entering the setting mode automaticay turns on the dispayed aarm. E Press to scro the hour vaue, unti it dispays the vaue you want. When setting the aarm time using the 12-hour format, take care to set the time correcty as a.m. (no indicator) or p.m. (P indicator). The same 12-hour/24-hour format you seect for the Timekeeping Mode time (page E-12) is aso appied in the Aarm Mode. 4. After the hour setting is the way you want, press B to move the fashing to the minutes. Press to scro the minute vaue. 5. When the minute setting is the way you want, press B. This wi cause ON to fash on the dispay. Press to togge the aarm setting between ON and OFF. Aarm Operation The aarm tone sounds at the preset time for 10 seconds, regardess of the mode the watch is in. Aarm and Houry Time Signa operations are performed in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode time. To stop the aarm tone after it starts to sound, press any button. To turn the Houry Time Signa on and off 1. In the Aarm Mode, use to seect the Houry Time Signa. 2. Hod down A for about three seconds unti ON fashes on the dispay. This is the setting mode. Entering the setting mode automaticay turns on the Houry Time Signa. 6. After the setting is the way you want, press A to exit the setting mode. E-24 E Press to togge the Houry Time Signa between on and off. 4. Press A to exit the setting screen. To turn off a aarms and the Houry Time Signa In the Aarm Mode, hod down for about three seconds. ALL OFF wi appear on the dispay indicating a aarms and the Houry Time Signa are turned off. Stopwatch Minutes The stopwatch ets you measure eapsed times. The dispay range of the stopwatch is 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after it reaches its imit, unti you stop it. The stopwatch measurement operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing B (page E-9). E-26 E-27 To measure times with the stopwatch Start Stop (About 1 second) ear To use the tachymeter 1. In the Stopwatch Mode, press. The second hand wi start to move, and wi stop automaticay when it reaches 60 seconds. The hour and minute hands indicate the current time in the Home. 2. Press again when the vehice reaches one kiometer (one mie). This wi stop the second hand. The vaue on the beze that the second hand is pointing to is the average speed at that point. Minute 1/100 Exampe: After a vehice runs one kiometer (one mie), the second hand is pointing at 120. This means that the average speed is 120 km/h (mph). You can use the watch s tachymeter feature to measure the time (within 60 seconds) that a vehice takes to run one kiometer (one mie) and then determine the approximate average speed. 3. Hod down for about one second to reset the tachymeter and return the second hand to 12 o cock. E-28 E-29

4 ountdown Timer Minutes You can set the countdown timer within a range of one to 100 minutes. An aarm sounds when the cowntdown reaches zero. A of the operations in this section are performed in the ountdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing B (page E-9). ountdown End Beeper The countdown end beeper ets you know when the countdown reaches zero. The beeper stops after about 10 seconds or when you press any button. To configure the countdown timer 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the ountdown Timer Mode, hod down A unti the current countdown start time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer (page E-32) to dispay it. 2. Press to scro the minute setting vaue. To specify a countdown time of 100 minutes, set 00: Press A to exit the setting screen. E-30 E-31 To use the countdown timer Press whie in the ountdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. The countdown timer operation continues even if you exit the ountdown Timer Mode. Press whie a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press again to resume the countdown. To stop a countdown operation competey, hod down urrent timer time for about one second unti the countdown time returns to its starting vaue. Power Suppy This watch is equipped with a soar ce and a rechargeabe battery that is charged by the eectrica power produced by the soar ce. The iustration shown beow shows how you shoud position the watch for charging. Exampe: Orient the watch so its face is Soar ce pointing at a ight source. The iustration shows how to position a watch with a resin band. Note that charging efficiency drops when any part of the soar ce is bocked by cothing, etc. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. harging is reduced significanty if the face is covered ony partiay. E-32 E-33 Important! Storing the watch for ong periods in an area where there is no ight or wearing it in such a way that it is bocked from exposure to ight can cause rechargeabe battery power to run down. Be sure that the watch is exposed to bright ight whenever possibe. This watch uses a rechargeabe battery to store power produced by the soar ce, so reguar battery repacement is not required. However, after very ong use, the rechargeabe battery may ose its abiity to achieve a fu charge. If you experience probems getting the rechargeabe battery to charge fuy, contact your deaer or ASIO distributor about having it repaced. Never try to remove or repace the watch s rechargeabe battery yoursef. Use of the wrong type of battery can damage the watch. The current time and a other settings return to their initia factory defauts whenever battery power drops to Leve 5 (pages E-35 and E-36) and when you have the battery repaced. Leaving the watch in a desk drawer or other dark ocation for a ong time can cause it to enter the seep state (page E-47) to conserve power. Battery Power Indicator and Recover Indicator The battery power indicator on the dispay shows you the current status of the rechargeabe battery s power. Leve Battery Power Indicator Function Status A functions enabed. A functions enabed. Watch enters Timekeeping Mode and second hand jumps every two seconds. Iumination and (harge Soon Aert) beeper disabed. A hands stop at 12 o cock, a functions and dispay indicators disabed. A functions disabed. E-34 E-35 The fashing indicator at Leve 3 tes you that battery power is very ow, and that exposure to bright ight for charging is required as soon as possibe. At Leve 5, a functions are disabed and settings return to their initia factory defauts. Once the battery reaches Leve 2 after faing to Leve 5, reconfigure the current time, date, and other settings. The watch s Home code setting wi change automaticay to TYO (Tokyo) whenever the battery drops to Leve 5. If you are using the watch outside of the Tokyo, Japan time zone, you wi need to change the Home code setting to match your ocation whenever this happens. Dispay indicators reappear as soon as the battery is charged from Leve 5 to Leve 2. Leaving the watch exposed to direct sunight or some other very strong ight source can cause the battery power indicator to show a reading temporariy that is higher than the actua battery eve. The correct battery eve shoud be indicated after a few minutes. Recover indicator Performing iumination or beeper operations during a short period may cause (recover) to appear on the dispay. After some time, battery power wi recover and (recover) wi disappear, indicating that the above functions are enabed again. If (recover) appears frequenty, it probaby means that remaining battery power is ow. Leave the watch in bright ight to aow it to charge. E-36 E-37 harging Precautions ertain charging conditions can cause the watch to become very hot. Avoid eaving the watch in the areas described beow whenever charging its rechargeabe battery. Aso note that aowing the watch to become very hot can cause its iquid crysta dispay to back out. The appearance of the LD shoud become norma again when the watch returns to a ower temperature. Warning! Leaving the watch in bright ight to charge its rechargeabe battery can cause it to become quite hot. Take care when handing the watch to avoid burn injury. The watch can become particuary hot when exposed to the foowing conditions for ong periods. 5 Recovery Times The tabe beow shows the amount exposure that is required to take the battery from one eve to the next. Actua required exposure times depend on ighting conditions. E-40 Adjusting Home Positions Strong magnetism or impact can cause the hands of the watch to be off. If this happens, perform the appicabe home position adjustment procedures in this section. Hand home position adjustment is not required if the anaog time and digita time are the same in the Timekeeping Mode. Hoding down the button during the adjustment procedures in this section wi cause the appicabe hand to start high-speed hand movement. Once started, highspeed hand movement wi continue even if you reease the button. To stop highspeed hand movement, press any button. E-41 To adjust home positions 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about six seconds. You can reease the button after H-SET appears on the dispay. Though ADJ wi appear on the dispay after about three seconds, do not reease the button yet. Keep it orrect second hand position E-42 depressed unti H-SET appears. The second hand shoud move to 12 o cock (its home position), and SE 00 wi fash on the dispay. If the second hand does not point to 12 o cock, use the button to adjust it. Each press of advances the hand by one second. orrect hour and minute hand positions 2. After the second hand is in the proper home position, press B. The hour and minute hands shoud move to 12 o cock (their home position), and +0:00 wi fash on the dispay. 3. What you shoud do next depends on whether the hour and minute hands are to the eft or to the right of 12 o cock. If the hands point to 12 o cock Go to step 4 of this procedure. If the hands point to the eft of 12 o cock Use the button to move the hands cockwise unti they point to 12 o cock. Each press of moves the hands 10 seconds. If the hands point to the right of 12 o cock Press B, which wi cause the fashing dispay to change to 0:00. Next, use the button to move the hands countercockwise unti they point to 12 o cock. Each press of moves the hands 10 seconds. E After everything is the way you want, press A to return to the Timekeeping Mode. After performing home position adjustment, enter the Timekeeping Mode and check to make sure that the anaog hands and the digita dispay indicate the same time. If they do not, perform home position adjustment again. Reference This section contains more detaied and technica information about watch operation. It aso contains important precautions and notes about the various features and functions of this watch. Button Operation Tone The button operation tone sounds any time you press one of the watch s buttons. You can turn the button operation tone on or off as desired. Even if you turn off the button operation tone, aarms, the Houry Time Signa, and other beepers a operate normay. E-44 E-45 To turn the button operation tone on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A for about three seconds. You can reease the button after ADJ appears on the dispay. At this time, 12H (12-hour timekeeping) or 24H (24- hour timekeeping) aso wi be fashing on the dispay. 2. Press B nine times unti the current button operation tone setting ( or ) appears. 3. Press to togge the setting between (tone on) and (tone off). 4. Press A to exit the setting screen. E-46 Power Saving Function The Power Saving function enters a seep state automaticay whenever the watch is eft in an area for a certain period where it is dark. The tabe beow shows how watch functions are affected by the Power Saving function. Eapsed Time in Dark 60 to 70 minutes 6 or 7 days Bank Bank Dispay Operation Second hand moves to 12 o cock and stops, a functions enabed, dispay bank. A hands stop at 12 o cock. Beeper tone, iumination, and dispay are disabed. E-47 Wearing the watch inside the seeve of cothing can cause it to enter the seep state. The watch wi not enter the seep state between 6:00 AM and 9:59 PM. If the watch is aready in the seep state when 6:00 AM arrives, however, it wi remain in the seep state. To recover from the seep state Perform any one of the foowing operations. Move the watch to a we-it area. Press any button. Auto Return If you do not perform any operation for about two or three minutes whie a setting screen (with a fashing setting) is on the dispay, the watch wi exit the setting screen automaticay. E-48 Scroing The button is used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data on the dispay. In most cases, hoding down this button during a scro operation scros at high speed. Initia Screens When you enter the Word Time Mode or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Timekeeping Resetting the seconds to 00 whie the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to 00 without changing the minutes. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced. E-49

6 The current time for a city codes in the Timekeeping Mode and Word Time Mode is cacuated in accordance with the oordinated Universa Time (UT) for each city, based on your Home time setting. Word Time The seconds count of the Word Time is synchronized with the seconds count of the Timekeeping Mode. Iumination Precautions An LED (ight-emitting diode) and a ight guide pane iuminate the face of the watch for easy reading in the dark. In any mode, press A to iuminate the face of the watch for about one second. The iumination provided by the ight may be difficut to see when viewed under direct sunight. Iumination turns off automaticay whenever an aarm sounds. Frequent use of iumination shortens the battery operating time.
