The Lolla Peterson House at 2410 Jarratt Norman and Berdie Larson purchased the house at 2410 Jarratt in 1947 and lived there until the mid-1950s. Norman was a concrete contractor with Harold W. Larson and Son, General Contractors. He and his son-in-law organized Larson-Pugh, Inc. in Larson was active in the Texas Highway Heavy Division of the Associated General Contractors, serving as director and committee chairman. Norma Larson Pugh is shown standing in front of their car and house sometime in the late 1940s. Lolla Peterson purchased the 1938 Tudor style home in 1957 (shown circa 1947). Some called her Godmother to the Poor, others said she was practically a welfare agency in herself, and still others said she was a fairy princess to the needy of Travis County. For almost thirty years, Lolla Peterson was connected with the Travis County Welfare Department, serving as director for many of those years. Lolla lived to be 90 years old. This home is a City of Austin Historic Landmark. Photographs courtesy Norman L. Larson. The above is adapted from p. 97 of Austin s Pemberton Heights, a photo history of the neighborhood written by Suzanne Deaderick and Elizabeth Cash.
