EXPLANATION OF BAY MUSIC FOUNDATION AWARDS 1. Winning contestants placing 1 st and 2 nd in the Intermediate or Senior Divisions will be awarded a scholarship award. A scholarship award is intended for use toward summer study at a music camp, private music lessons (instrumental, vocal, theory/composition, etc.), instrument purchase, accessories or repair. Monies can also be deposited into a verified 529 established college fund. 2. In the event that a scholarship winner is not able to use their scholarship toward one of the above intended uses because of special circumstances, a review board from the Bay Music Foundation will provide a decision on an alternative use of scholarship award. INFORMATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS 1. Winners will be required to perform at the Winners Showcase Concert the day of the competition (see Dates to Remember sheet). They will be expected to perform the same piece with which they won their award. Failure to perform at Showcase concert will result in forfeiture of scholarship award. 2. In the event that a Scholarship Winner cannot have her/his accompanist perform with her/him at the Winners Showcase Concert, the BMF will have an accomplished accompanist available for the day of the concert. A nominal fee for this service will be charged at the discretion of the accompanist and is to be paid directly to her/him on the day of the concert. 3. Though the BMF does not specifically require Scholarship Winners to perform at certain community events during their award year, it is strongly encouraged. The BMF will occasionally contact Scholarship Winners offering opportunities to perform locally and representing the BMF. Winners are also welcome to find their own opportunities to perform and inform The BMF of these performances. We do remind students in High School that these performances may possibly be counted toward their required hours of voluntary community service.
